Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

upswing to about 460 incoming over next couple of hours.

I rather bet on a nice upswing to 350

But would you put any money on it?

I bet that there would be a lot of takers to bet you that we will see $460 before we see $350?

You would NOT take such a bet b/c you do NOT even believe it.

If bitcoin is to become an important world currency, it must go through ups and downs like this.  If it didn't, everyone who got in early would become filthy rich.  But everyone can't become rich, so bitcoin must tug at your emotions to test your beliefs, taunting you to make a move.  It rockets to the moon, promising you wealth beyond your wildest dream.  And then it crashes lower and then lower again, shattering those fantasies you were living in your head.

But in the end the question is simply: do you want bitcoin to succeed?

For me it is something to fight for.  In all my life, I have never seen a technology that I feel has as much potential to right so many wrongs in the world.  It is money by the people for the people.  It empowers the individual, which empowers the community, which empowers the world.  It is bottom up money, rather than top-down, and reflects the natural order of human relationships.  It is the system that will allow us to break free of certain chains that have been holding back our species, as we evolve to a higher level of community.

Life is about making decisions.  We are free people and can do as we choose by accepting the consequences.  At some point, each of us will be old and at the end of our lives.  We will remember the battles we fought and won with pleasure, and those we lost with pride.  Our regrets will instead be of the battles we were too afraid to fight.  We will look back and say, how could I have been worried about loosing (what you'll later perceive as an inconsequential) $25,000 bucks when what was at play was the evolution of money itself.

I decided a year ago to commit my time over the next several years to working on bitcoin.  I will continue to do so as long as transactions are added to the unforgeable global ledger know as the blockchain.  I will work to advance the technology, use it at every opportunity, favour hiring employees who accept it, and gently promote it across my sphere of influence.

I believe I am not alone.

This is the first bubble I've observed up close and personal. I'm finding it a teensy bit eerie how closely it's following the script others have laid out. Reddit and elsewhere is showing initial rumblings of despair.

Just goes to show that another one is on its way eventually.

So what?   I also have NOT seen $400 yet on bitstamp.. .low is $418.34... so far... what are you measuring... anything that meets your theory. ... .. woudl you take a bet or not?  You are betting on $350 and acting as if $350 is coming soon...   and you are denigrating discussions of $460...   Put your money on your assertion(s).

What's particularly interesting is that many bubbles pop and go to zero. Bitcoin has survived several boom/bust cycles, never going to zero. Indeed each bubble high is higher than the previous, and each bubble low is higher than the previous. It appears, and the hope is, there may be a few more of these cycles before it enters a more solid state on price.

Houbi bouncing at 400 CYN intervals - 3200, 2800, 2400.

We might have hit our low for the day.

Or, the fall will escalate more rapidly.

there are a lot of permabulls or something close to a permabull in this thread.. and label or NOT I agree with Peter R's statement.. I am sure a lot of others agree with Peter R's statement, also... so lots of permabulls.. if that is the right term for his statement... Just because the forum is littered with naysayers and trolls during a downswing in prices, does NOT mean that bull sentiment does NOT remain ...

This time is unprecedented bad news though.

There's also unprecedented good news. Its legal status is clearer day by day, which makes it a way less risky investment. Plus the Atm's popping up everywhere, the rise of trustworthy exchanges, business (overstock, etc.) realization that Bitcoin might be profitable for them, etc.

The market seems overly pessimistic at the moment, and prefer to drag the dead dog that China has been since January, rather than rejoice of the many good news.
