Well, conversion of lead into gold is back on the table! Turns out all you need is a Large Hadron Collider and a massive energy source but it's probably going to be a while before this is a viable alternative to gold mining. ALICE detects the conversion of lead into gold at the LHC" Near-miss collisions between high-energy lead nuclei at the LHC generate intense electromagnetic fields that can knock out protons and transform lead into fleeting quantities of gold nuclei" https://www.home.cern/news/news/physics/alice-detects-conversion-lead-gold-lhc"...The electromagnetic field emanating from a lead nucleus is particularly strong because the nucleus contains 82 protons, each carrying one elementary charge. Moreover, the very high speed at which lead nuclei travel in the LHC (corresponding to 99.999993% of the speed of light) causes the electromagnetic field lines to be squashed into a thin pancake, transverse to the direction of motion, producing a short-lived pulse of photons. Often, this triggers a process called electromagnetic dissociation, whereby a photon interacting with a nucleus can excite oscillations of its internal structure, resulting in the ejection of small numbers of neutrons and protons. To create gold (a nucleus containing 79 protons), three protons must be removed from a lead nucleus in the LHC beams..." image from CERNFor me is always facinating how in someway the ancestor was always close to some kind of certainity even in the most hilarious ways. I mean alquimist were more a magic than a science and a myth, but when we ended up having the powerfull tools and the advanced science we found they werent that crazy. In religion also you can find some pretty signs of it. I always believe in the idea of maybe the human has already killed himself a lot of times and a few survived and this few people starts again the civilization and they count some of the knowledge as a myth trying to give the "new" humans some clues about things. I know is dificult to understand and more with my poor english, but is a pretty fascinating theme to talk about. And a long one. For example just imagine and apocalipsys happen and you want to let you know to people who dont know computers and maths how BTC works, how are you gonna do it, or better to say how are you gonna make them know of something like that can exist and is one of the goals to reach? Well you make a story a very good one a myth, something like God BTC who was a guys in a mountain......... You get me? yeah you can ask this guy. he will fill you in on the past

Just came an across this. Dubai partners with Crypto․com to accept Bitcoin for government services. I've heard some mining enthusiast talking about a huge investment on mining by Dubai government also. They are also offering office space in Dubai for crypto projects.

can it be done over and over?
Why do you do this over and over again if you don't have any problems? asking for a friend... Dear friend Mr. Hueristic Sir please tell your friend that once that area of the brain has been removed resp. disabled it is of no use to try removing it again and again. A one time treatment is perfectly enough as has been repeatedly proven within this thread. OTOH, why be content with only one lobotomy if you can have many? So essentially we agree here for the most part.

Sorry, but experiments were showing that you only get 0.5 ETH2 by colliding two ETH. Unfortunately 1.5 ETH are "lost" in the form of "gas", while the remaining 0.5 ETH2 keep remain staked for forever-1 days.

Is inability to pass the stablecoin bill bullish or bearish for bitcoin? I think bullish. IMHO, stablecoins could result in the market fragmentation and lots of stupid questions from banks like: what was your capital gain on that stablecoin, where you got it, etc. Because stablecoins right now are not excluded from the taxation report, I had to fill quite a few line items saying that I sold X amount of a stablecoin (USDC, for example) for exactly X dollars with 0 capital gains. That was pretty annoying. In US, there is not much distinction between using $$ or stablecoins (where you can). Essentially, stablecoins are now mostly usable (in US) for defi and that's it.

Do you really think an insignificant $2k wobble in either direction means anything?
One would define this little dip as a dump for ants.Meanwhile, your boy LFC_Bitcoin has more pressing matters to attend to than price watching ant dips - With Sun, Sand and the Sea Weather in western Europe is absolutly fenomenal. 20°C - 25°C with some wind with clear blue sky. You can wear short pants + short sleeve shirt all day long and sleeping tight at night without that typical blazing summer heat. Current weather conditions is actually the sweet spot, i wish this was every single day. Although, i cherrish living in a country with 4 seasons. Each season has his own charms, clothing, fragrances, vibes, food and festivities. I am from a country that has 4 season (in the past). The global warming has disturbed weather pattern a lot here. Now winters are mild cold, rains are at odd time (the entire winter passes without any rain) and summer duration and intensity is increasing. I wish good old days come back when winters were chilled and my favourite days are evenings/nights of rainy December.

Bitcoin Price Flat as US Reports 2.3% Inflation in April “If CPI came in hot, I expected a sharp drop, maybe toward $100K,” Arthur Azizov, founder of B2 Ventures, told Decrypt. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/05/13/UU4lyo.jpegBitcoin remained relatively flat after April's inflation data showed prices rose 0.2% for the month, with the annual inflation rate slowing to 2.3%, while core inflation held steady at 2.8%. The Federal Reserve recently kept interest rates at 4.25%-4.50% amid economic uncertainty created by Trump's tariff policies, with markets now showing just a 15% chance of a June rate cut. The US and China reached a surprise trade agreement on May 12, reducing mutual tariffs for 90 days, which boosted equities markets but had limited impact on Bitcoin, which traded around $103,798 .Economists expected the index, which tracks price changes across a broad range of goods and services, to rise 2.4% from a year earlier. BTC, which had surged over 10% last week, was trading around $101,758 on Tuesday morning, rose briefly, and has now fallen 0.3% to $103,798, as per CoinGecko data. Ethereum rose 0.5%, Solana dropped only 0.1%, and meme coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu were flat in the wake of the new CPI report. https://decrypt.co/319430/bitcoin-price-flat-us-inflation-rises-slightly

> This study investigates a class of special integers that the factors differ by only two bits, and the difference is present only at the two bits with weights of 2 and 4.
So as far as I can tell from some quick skimming, the paper's title is entirely clickbait. Regardless of the size of the numbers involved, this is not really "RSA-2048" because no one would construct an actual RSA-2048 key this way. And if they did, I think it would be susceptible to classical attacks like Fermat factorization, no "quantum computer" needed.
To be fair, the paper does eventually admit this has no real impact on actual RSA-2048, but it does still try to characterize this as some sort of looming threat. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43952396

OT: Apparently,"MI: The Final Reckoning" is pretty good.
I believe it is coming out on May 23 (will be shown at Cannes on May 14). I will probably go to an IMAX theater to watch.
