A fake (and legit looking) purportedly Ledger (it is not!) physical letter is going around... beware.

My concern is that the scams are becoming so well made that sooner or later we may make a mistake.
Several times I almost clicked on some nasty email ...well, i didn't so far, in the end, but eternal vigilance is needed now.

Both Ledger and Trezor.

They usually peak when there is a pump/ATH. They're getting better (with the help of AI). Over the years, I feel I've developed a skill in spotting these emails (as I'm sure many WOers have), so I don't worry too much about them. Nonetheless, we should all be extra vigilant and should not assume we cannot be tricked.

Never click email links, never flash f/w from unknown sources, and never disclose PINs/seeds. This feels so obvious/unnecessary to say, but better safe than sorry. I would seriously consider killing myself if I ever lost my coins to such scams.

Sure...but i was talking about a physical letter foremost.

When something is physical, the brain initially tells you that it is real....made very well, laser printed on a good paper, with little details and marks made to increase confidence, pretending to be genuine...with a fake signature of Ledger's CTO to boot. One thing that gives it in is the sense of urgency..."you have to do it by a certain date". You can see the letter on the ledger site, which i found after googling the matter.

If any of you have the inclination or urge to pick up the "do something stick", I implore you with all my heart, let it lay.

also, I'm not ready to pat myself on the back yet, but that might be the wick down that I was expecting. Felt like it...

Please tell me those cakes are from Walmart. We are not rich yet enough for restaurant grade cake. Perhaps at $150k I could buy one.

This is one reason I keep a selection of email addresses for different services. Oh, an email from service X* (not literally X) which doesn't use X@mydomain.com? Obviously a scam. I should really have them automatically flagged but instincts have served me well. Though even genuine emails will never get clicked unless I know I'm expecting them (like within the next 5 minutes). Some services like gmail allow you to have multiple emails by using a period or plus sign, I think but I would never use gmail for much serious.

Oh, shoot! You're right, you said physical! I missed it!

I've never received anything physical from Ledger/Trezor, except the wallets themselves.

There was a leak in Ledger's customer database some years ago. For some customers only the email was leaked, but for some unlucky ones it was the entire record, including postal address. I guess you were probably one of the unlucky ones.

Good to be aware that the scammers are snail-mailing people, thanks.

Edit: I just saw the letter on the Ledger site. Very professional, indeed!

I remember when Caitlyn Long first showed up on the scene and started talking about the re-hypothecation of Bitcoin via paper Bitcoin.

I ran the tape as far forward as I could, and have done that exercise over and over again since then, since it is seemingly coming true.

The good news is, as far as I can see, this ends very badly for the people who try to turn Bitcoin into a paper product.  And the reasoning is fairly simple. Bitcoin can be moved instantly on more than one network, worldwide, and no one can stop that from happening.  Remember the hold your keys day or whatever it is that started back maybe 10 years ago was it January 2nd or whatever I don't know Trace Mayer I think did it?  I think it was a little before its time.

The issue of custody and Bitcoin is very interesting one and more important than I think even some of us choir members realize.

yes even if you want to have liquid kyc coin you can do it via bank - to exchange - to coin - to a specific kyc coin only trezor.- back to exchange for cash

you can prove the coin if and when you want to cash it on the exchange.

Every MTA/Mailserver I've dealt with supports the + separator, seems also to be part of RFC5233 for sieve filtering.

Of course pro scammers will just cut the part from the + to the @ out to appear legit, but it definitely helps to see who lost your address when you get spammed.
Still, using a separate alias for every service you use is better if you have that possibility, like with your own domain etc.

I'm pretty sure it's optional though it might be configured as standard on many services. Reading through that standard though, I'm not sure it's really defining much other than how to refer to the parts? The only mandatory part seems to be the paragraph which begins "Implementations MUST"

What they are going to do when "growth", measured in AI-based production, would increase exponentially, but employment stagnate?
I don't think that they have models that could help if this happens.
We might have a huge deflationary trend, perhaps.

So must I hold cash as a hedge?
