My read into this is that a lot of those shorts are probably hedges. Depending on the time frames those hedges, once closed, will probably give BTC some upwards movement. If they are mostly hedges, and with no long leverage around, it should mean that spot will be driving the market. This should limit downside, as most hodlers will not sell at these prices, but will start DCA, as many here are.

Saw an interesting comparison where someone showed the past liquidation events in bitcoin and even during the covid crash and FTX collapse the numbers were smaller than yesterday.
It honestly feels so fake and orchestrated.

April 5 Trump tweets about tariffs on April 5 - Saturday, a day later on Sunday BTC goes from 84 to 76k

October 10 - the largest ever liquidation on BTC - Saturday
Trump announces 130% tariffs on China, an insider whale shorts the market, people suspect it's one of his sons...

January 17 Trump announces tariffs on Europe - again on Saturday. Crashes BTC from 95 to 87k.

Now, somebody decides to dump billions in BTC to crash the market on Saturday, knowing it's a time of low liquidity, when other markets are closed and a time that was proven to work before.

I don't know if it's true, but there was some info circulating that the large whale who shorted during the first Trump tariff announcement and then went long when we hit 80k in November was liquidated. If that's true, even the insiders weren't prepared for this to hit so hard. Most likely market makers who were long gold and silver and owned BTC at the same time sold btc to cover other positions.
