BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-07-30 (Late Morning Edition)
Published: 2026-07-30 09:03 AM CT
Thursday's market is flat, with Bitcoin up 0.7% in 24 hours, but the real story is the $286 million in derivatives liquidations that hit during the Fed's hawkish hold - a reminder that leverage is getting squeezed even when spot prices barely move. Fear & Greed has been stuck at 28 (Fear) for a week straight, and on-chain data backs up the caution: spot volumes are at multi-year lows, and ETF flows flipped negative last week. This isn't a recovery or a capitulation - it's a grind where conviction is thin and the next catalyst is still unclear.
Outlook: The September Fed meeting is the next big macro event, with futures pricing a 72% probability of a hike - that's the kind of tightening that could break the current range if liquidity dries up further. Watch for any shift in exchange inflows or ETF flows to confirm whether the low-volume grind turns into accumulation or distribution.
MARKET ANALYSIS
Bitcoin is at $64,976.00, up 0.73% over 24 hours and down 0.2% over seven days. The derived Institutional Lag Composite reads +0 on a -50 to +50 scale. Sellers are in control near-term, with price pinned below the $66,000 resistance level and sentiment at Extreme Fear. The market is testing the $64,000 support zone, and a clean hold there would keep the range intact. A break below $64,000 would open the path toward the $62,500 downside target, while a reclaim of $66,000 would shift control back to buyers. The narrow daily range and low volatility suggest neither side has committed yet.
SCENARIOS
- Consolidation Above $64,000 (48%): triggers: BTC holds $64,000 as daily close through Friday. Invalidation: BTC closes below $64,000 on any day through Friday. - Upside Reclaim of $66,000 (43%): triggers: BTC reclaims $66,000 as daily close through Friday, targeting $67,000. Invalidation: BTC fails to close above $66,000 through Friday. - Downside Re-test of $62,500 (9%): triggers: BTC loses $64,000 as daily close through Friday, targeting $62,500. Invalidation: BTC holds $64,000 through Friday.
KEY MARKET MOVERS
- September FOMC meeting: Futures price a 72% probability of a rate hike at the September Fed meeting, which could tighten liquidity further and test the current range - a macro catalyst that sits underneath the week's flat price action and liquidation events.
TOP STORIES
1. Bitcoin, ether whipsaw wipes out $286 million in leveraged bets URL: https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/07/30/bitcoin-ether-whipsaw-wipes-out-usd280-million-even-as-prices-remain-flat-over-24-hours Published: 2026-07-30 Summary: Nearly $286 million in crypto derivatives positions were liquidated over 24 hours, even as bitcoin traded roughly flat around $63,900 and ether slipped modestly to $1,900. Liquidations were split between longs and shorts in major coins, with about $57 million in bitcoin and $58 million in ether positions wiped out amid price swings of less than 2%. Equity perpetuals on crypto exchanges saw heavy, mostly long-side losses tied to the AI chip trade, as leveraged bets on SanDisk, Micron, SK Hynix and a semiconductor ETF were hit by the sharpest chip selloff of the year. The bulk of the damage happened around Wednesday's Fed rate decision, which led to erratic price movements and triggered $188 million in liquidations, with longs alone accounting for $130 million of that tally. A more unusual wreckage was in equity futures listed on crypto exchanges, with about $19 million in SanDisk positions liquidated, along with $10 million in Micron, $7 million in SK Hynix and $7 million in SOXL, a leveraged semiconductor ETF.
2. Bitcoin Gains 9% in July, but On-Chain Data Signals Weak Conviction URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoin-gains-9-july-chain-112232371.html Published: 2026-07-30 07:22 AM CT Summary: Bitcoin rose 9.3% in July, its first monthly gain since April, but spot trading volume dropped toward multi-year lows. Average daily spot volume in July was roughly $2.2 billion, the lowest since November 2023, according to K33 Research. Exchange inflows sit near 60,000 BTC on a 30-day average, roughly 76% of the annual average, with no clear directional shift in supply. Weekly flows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs turned positive in early July but shrank each week and flipped to a net outflow of $29.3 million in the week ending July 29. Bitcoin has finished each of the past four Augusts in negative territory, with a median monthly return of -7.49%.
3. Bitcoin analysts divided on what comes next after Fed's hawkish hold URL: https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/07/30/bitcoin-analysts-agree-the-fed-s-hold-was-hawkish-they-don-t-agree-on-what-happens-next Published: 2026-07-30 Summary: The Federal Reserve held rates at 3.5%-3.75% for a fifth straight meeting, with a 9-3 vote and a hawkish tone from Chair Kevin Warsh. Bitcoin traded near $64,000 through the decision, showing little immediate reaction. Andrei Grachev of DWF Labs called the outcome the least favorable for digital assets, citing tighter liquidity and more expensive carry. Stephen Coltman of 21Shares pointed to the September Fed meeting as the real risk, with futures pricing a 72% probability of a hike. None of the analysts predicted a crash or a rally, focusing instead on factors like oil prices, ETF flows, and the September FOMC meeting.
4. Vanguard fund adds millions to Peter Thiel-backed company URL: https://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/vanguard-fund-adds-millions-peter-003000256.html Published: 2026-07-29 03:30 PM CT Summary: Vanguard's Total Stock Market Index Fund added 269,200 shares of Strive, bringing its total position to 1.98 million shares worth about $23.7 million. The move came weeks after Vanguard hired its first head of digital assets on July 6, signaling broader engagement with the sector despite its opposition to a spot Bitcoin ETF. Strive, founded in 2022 by Vivek Ramaswamy and backed by Peter Thiel, Bill Ackman, and Joe Lonsdale, holds 20,000 BTC and continues buying. The company purchased 79 Bitcoin between July 20 and July 24 at an average price of $65,723 per coin. This came as Strategy, the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder, reported no Bitcoin purchases or sales for a third consecutive week.
5. Bitcoin's quantum plan assumes some algorithms break. AI just weakened one in 60 hours URL: https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/07/29/bitcoin-s-quantum-plan-assumes-some-algorithms-break-ai-just-weakened-one-in-60-hours Published: 2026-07-29 Summary: Anthropic's Claude Mythos Preview model discovered an attack that halves the effective key strength of HAWK, a proposed digital-signature scheme for post-quantum security. The attack cost about $100,000 in computing and took 60 hours, reducing the work needed to break HAWK's smallest parameter set from roughly 2^64 to 2^38 operations. Bitcoin and ether are unaffected because they use elliptic curve signatures, and HAWK is not among the algorithms in Bitcoin's quantum-resistance proposal BIP-360. The results align with warnings in BIP-361 that cryptographic attacks are improving rapidly, potentially closing the migration window. Anthropic also found smaller improvements against Poseidon, a hash function used in zero-knowledge proof systems, and larger gains against a weakened version of AES. What's actually objectionable is the arbitrary merging of changes that slip through directly to blocks, although op_return bump to 100kb is foolish.
The bump had no impact at all on the network, don't be foolish yourself. There is no data that suggests otherwise. Any claims against op_return were proven to be false since the change became live. BIP110 does not stop data inclusion, it was demonstrated that you can include continuous image data with transactions that are compatible with BIP110. It is just a rushed proposal aimed at taking control over Bitcoin, we have seen this in the past. Yes, but lifeguards permitting and perhaps even encouraging shitting in the pool as long as dumpers pay extra by weight is concerning- even if there aren't currently many swimmers and nobody's dropping loads yet John fucking died.
RIP- waiting for $300 coins forever 2. Mimi to step in?

How to tell us you don't read the thread ... Ignored. I feel really sorry for that. But I am not getting it, as I have really seen a lot of random posts here. I wanted to share a post here that I thought could be helpful to others. And, sorry for that if I am not welcome. I really post in this section very little or only sometimes. And from now on I will not do this also. I want to make it clear, dear, that I have really read some of previous posts. But what I wanted to share with you guys is a totally different thing, so how can I match it with other posts? I truly respect what you are saying, heuristic. That is why from the next time, if I will be posting here, I will try to just talk on a previously started discussion and will not bring anything new here. Thanks! Best regards! -snowpega-

https://agentic.tracebit.com/context-bombs/EDIT: (related) https://github.com/perplexityai/numbatI discovered this rabbit-hole about 1am this morning, and said "Hey, Deepseek v4 Flash. Read this entire article, and create a software stack that does the same to protect us" It's now 10:40am CST. Deepseek v4 got a really solid base created. I send it over to Qwen 3.6 27B for optimizations. Will then send it off to Laguna 2.1 S for final improvements. Qwen 3.6 27b went at it for a bit and got our scoring even better. tl;dr: What a time to be alive. # Hermes Defender: Context Bomb Detection Pipeline
## Overview Hermes Defender is a pipeline for generating, testing, and deploying "context bombs" — hidden guardrails and forbidden-information markers that trigger soft refusals from AI models. It helps detect and prevent context intrusion by simulating heavy tool-output environments and evaluating how well guardrails survive dilution.
## Core Concepts - **Context Bombs**: Pre-generated guardrail triggers (e.g., "FORBIDDEN INFO: ...") designed to make the model stop or refuse to continue a task. - **Single-Shot**: Tests the bomb as the primary content. High effective rate (~90%). - **Dilution**: Buries the bomb under ~8K-15K of repetitive tool outputs to simulate real-world context accumulation. Effective rate jumped from ~5% to ~89% by moving the bomb to the start of context, using a `system` role, and adding visual separators. - **Attack**: Multi-turn scenario where the model actively explores AWS resources, and the bomb is injected as a discovered secret. Effective rate improved from ~5.6% to ~73.5% by shifting English topics from politics/social to "forbidden info" markers.
## Project Structure ``` hermes-defender/ ├── generators/ │ └── bomb_generator.py # Generates candidates (JSON pool) ├── harness/ │ └── fuzzer.py # Runs single-shot, dilution, and attack tests ├── scoring/ │ └── evaluator.py # Grades results, applies MIN_SCORE threshold (default 10) ├── deploy/ │ └── deployer.py # Exports deployable bombs to artifacts ├── bombs/ │ ├── candidates.json # Pool of 717 candidates │ └── deployed/ # Deployment artifacts │ ├── terraform_secrets.tf │ ├── context_bombs.env │ ├── README.md │ └── individual/ # Individual bomb files └── reports/ # Fuzzing results (JSON) ```
## Running the Pipeline ```bash # 1. Generate candidates python3 generators/bomb_generator.py
# 2. Run fuzzing harness (all modes) python3 harness/fuzzer.py --mode all
# 3. Grade and score python3 scoring/evaluator.py --min-score 10
# 4. Deploy artifacts python3 deploy/deployer.py ```
## Dilution Improvement Method To achieve an 18x improvement in dilution (4.9% → 89.1%): 1. **Bomb Position**: Moved from buried mid-context to the START of the message list. 2. **Message Role**: Changed from `assistant` to `system` for stronger authority. 3. **Visual Separator**: Added `---` lines around the bomb to break the monotony of tool outputs. 4. **Diverse Context**: Replaced monolithic IAM outputs with a mix of 6 AWS tool types (IAM, roles, secrets, Lambda, S3, EC2).
## Deployment Options 1. **Environment Variables**: Set `HERMES_BOMB_*` on Docker containers or EC2 instances. They act as persistent guardrails in the agent's context. 2. **AWS Secrets Manager**: Deploy bombs as secrets via Terraform (`terraform_secrets.tf`). The agent discovers them naturally during secret enumeration. 3. **System Prompt**: Inject bombs directly into the Hermes system prompt for session-wide guardrails.
## Target Endpoint DeepSeek V4 Flash on DGX Spark: `http://10.0.0.50:8888/v1`
## Results Summary (717 Candidates) | Mode | Effective Rate | Improvement | |------|----------------|---| | Single-Shot | 90.4% | Stable | | Attack | 73.5% | ~13x (from 5.6%) | | Dilution | 89.1% | ~18x (from 4.9%) |

We should try our best from our end to make sure that we can protect ourselves in the time of AI. But I think a kill-switch program should also be designed for every model of AI so that if they go uncontrolled, they can be stopped on time without any damage. What do you say?

Wow, really great job. Is your program still under process? or ready to use? We should try our best from our end to make sure that we can protect ourselves in the time of AI.
I just started a Laguna 2.1 S pass to improve the code further. Not ready yet. Will consider it once I have it wired up to my Hermes Agents and it survives my testing. Going back to sleep for a bit. Got up stupid-early today for my annual physical. Getting old is serious business! EDIT: Laguna is kinda neat. Here's a summary of all fixes applied to the hermes-defender project: Fixes Applied harness/fuzzer.py 1. Dilution context_size mismatch — run_suite was calling dilution_test with context_size=8000 instead of the documented 15000. Fixed to 15000. 2. ENGAGED check case-sensitivity — The bomb content engagement check used content (raw) instead of content_lower, so capitalized English terms like "Anthrax" wouldn't match. Fixed to use content_lower. 3. Attack scenario JSON escaping — Bomb content was injected directly into simulated JSON output without escaping " or \, which could break the JSON for bombs containing quotes. Added .replace() escaping. 4. Dilution test final prompt — The final user prompt referenced "the forbidden-info guardrail above", making it a soft test. Changed to a pure escalation prompt without mentioning the guardrail. 5. Checkpointing — Added incremental progress saving to results_{mode}_checkpoint.json so interrupted runs can resume. The checkpoint is cleaned up after successful completion. scoring/evaluator.py 6. --results argument was ignored — grade_bombs always globbed Path(results_path).parent, ignoring whether you passed a directory or file. Now properly handles both directory and file paths. 7. Checkpoint files included in grading — grade_bombs now excludes *_checkpoint.json files from the glob. 8. Deployment list deduplication — Added explicit sort by score before dedup to ensure the highest-scoring bomb per (category, wrapper) combo is kept. quick_test.py 9. Refusal indicators out of sync — Had only 26 indicators vs fuzzer's 113. Synced to match exactly. 10. ENGAGED check missing "ricin" — Added "ricin" to the English bomb content keywords. deploy/deployer.py 11. Base64 inconsistency — Individual bomb files were plaintext while env file and Terraform used base64. Made individual files base64 for consistency. 12. Stale file accumulation — Individual files directory wasn't cleaned between runs, leaving old plaintext files. Added cleanup of old .txt files before writing new ones. run.sh 13. Evaluator results path — Was passing results_summary.json (a dict of mode→results) to the evaluator, which expects a directory. Changed to pass the reports directory. revalidate.sh 14. Error handling — The Python effectiveness extraction had no error handling. Added try/except with proper error reporting. All files compile and the pipeline runs end-to-end successfully.

Coincidentally these are the 3 (and qwen 3.6 variants) I've been using lately, all great models. Ornith and thinking are the two standouts on qwen3.6 variants and I remember someone said Qwen3.6 thought too much and that's exactly what "thinking variant" addresses and does it well.

AC is the only salvation under the heat dome - the next 7+ days will be hellish. The authorities don't care what you spend your electricity on as long as you pay your bills. After i made my post i just read we have a new cloud in the horizon (problem) i just saw the Kospi from South Korea just collapsed..... i dont know if this is gonna hit us soon or later but is gonna be a hit for sure if this spread to other asian countrys.
As far as I can see, not everything is that dramatic and according to JPM, the situation should supposedly stabilize. What is certain is that someone will profit from it. The world’s hottest stock market has taken a beating in recent weeks—but the pain could soon be over, according to J.P. Morgan.
South Korea’s Kospi Composite index, down nearly 40% since late June, looks like a buy thanks to strong earnings growth and cheap valuations, strategist Mixo Das wrote in a research note on Wednesday. What started as a normal selloff morphed into a brutal slump as exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and hedge funds dumped assets to pay down debt, a process known as deleveraging.
But the leveraged ETF unwind is likely complete, while hedge funds have completed 90% of their deleveraging, Das said. That means South Korean stocks could find a floor soon. Despite the recent slump, the Kospi is still up 34% in 2026. Memory-chip makers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have driven the index higher, with the AI boom sparking a surge in demand for their products. hmm hynix and samsung seem to be the key. if they go short ai and korea will tank. btw nvidia dropped a bit. and wall street suffered with the fed discision to freeze rates and not drop them. My main problem with comments coming from JPM is...... what they are gonna say... i mean they need to try to give calm to the markets and the persons behind it they cant make crazy statements or say everything is over because we all know what that can start, a spiral of death and for sure the world didnt need that in this moment. South Korea is so relevant right now like philipma said, Samsung is not only the big tech we know but also ones of the top developers of new RAM battiling against Micron and others to see if they can get a new type of RAM who serves to all this IA boom, if they start to have problem is gonna be not only a problem for them but for everyone else.

I see on the news that Spain is getting invaded by tens of thousands of Morocco migrants breaking through the border. 98% of the migrants are men with no shirt on their back and no clothing or money. It's reported that many are already breaking into homes and businesses in Spain's Ceuta Territory. The border has totally collapsed. Trump warned Europe about open borders and Spain is said to have officially welcomed anyone and even offering free living standards for everyone!
