We are so back.

It's surreal watching net growth on my stash appreciating low 7 figures on this pump.

What a time to be alive.

Also, writing a Bitcoin implementation in assembler is fucking serious business yo. I thought I would be in a position to do a test transaction yesterday, only to fall down many other rabbit holes revealing the complexity that is Bitcoin.

Doubt I "ship code" before the end of the month at this rate. Maybe end of Sept.

I thought I knew Bitcoin pretty well. Until I decided to actually build an implementation from scratch using Core as a reference.

Really deep in teh shit, now.

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-08-19 (Evening Edition)

Published: 2026-08-19 09:04 PM CT

Wednesday's tape is all about the squeeze: Bitcoin ripped 8.26% in 24 hours to $69,672, its sharpest one-day move since March, after the Treasury said it would double long-bond buybacks, and the Fear & Greed Index flipped to Greed at 62. The move wiped out over $1 billion in shorts, and Skybridge's Anthony Scaramucci is out there calling for $100K as the halving cycle tightens supply. This is a recovery, not a grind, and the 7-day trend is up 9.9%.

Outlook: Watch whether Bitcoin can close above $70,284, the lower edge of the resistance band, which would open room toward $73,245; a failure to hold $68,000 could drag it back into the range that trapped it since June. Also keep an eye on funding rates, which hit a 20-month high and have started to cool, suggesting the squeeze may be losing steam.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Bitcoin is at $69,672.00, up 8.26% over 24 hours and up 9.9% over seven days. The derived Institutional Lag Composite reads +21 on a -50 to +50 scale. Buyers are in control here, and the tape is telling you they intend to stay that way. The move off the $65,000 support was decisive, and price is now pressing into the upper half of the range with the Fear & Greed index at 62, which is Greed but not euphoria. That $74,500 resistance is the line in the sand: a daily close above it opens the path to $79,000, while a failure there likely means a grind back toward the $65,000 shelf. What flips the current control is a daily close back below $65,000, which would put the downside target of $60,500 in play. Until that happens, the path of least resistance remains upward, but the tape is not yet stretched enough to call this a breakout.

SCENARIOS

- Consolidation Above $65,000 (32%): triggers: Bitcoin holds $65,000 on a daily closing basis through Friday, while the Fear & Greed index stays between 55 and 70 and price fails to make a daily close above $74,500. Invalidation: a daily close below $65,000 before Friday, or a daily close above $74,500 that then fails to hold $72,000 within two sessions.
- Breakout Through $74,500 (56%): triggers: A daily close above $74,500 within five trading days, confirmed by a second daily close above that level the following session, with the Fear & Greed index pushing to 70 or higher. Invalidation: price touches $74,500 but closes below it for three consecutive sessions through Friday, or a daily close below $65,000 during the same window.
- Downside Re-test of $60,500 (12%): triggers: A daily close below $65,000 within five trading days, which would break the support that has held since the recent rally began, and the Fear & Greed index dropping below 45 as selling accelerates. Invalidation: price reclaims $65,000 on a daily closing basis within two sessions of the break, or a daily close above $74,500 before Friday, which would negate the bearish setup entirely.

KEY MARKET MOVERS

- Treasury buyback expansion: The U.S. Treasury's plan to double long-bond buybacks from $2 billion to $4 billion per operation starting September 9 pushed long-end yields down and weakened the dollar, triggering the Bitcoin rally.
- Short squeeze dynamics: The rally forced short sellers to cover roughly $1.5 billion in positions, with $700 million in a single minute, which 21Shares called possibly the largest short squeeze in Bitcoin's history.

TOP STORIES

1. Scaramucci Backs BTC Above $100K as Bear Phase Nears End
URL: https://news.bitcoin.com/featured/scaramucci-backs-btc-above-100k-as-bear-phase-nears-end
Published: 2026-08-19 05:18 PM CT
Summary: Skybridge Capital CEO Anthony Scaramucci remains bullish on bitcoin, predicting it will surpass $100,000 as the halving cycle reduces supply. Bitcoin's price stagnated near pre-war levels after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, sliding below those levels by June 7. Scaramucci attributes the bear market to three structural headwinds: miners shifting computing power to AI, capital reallocating to artificial intelligence, and reduced volatility. Critics argue the traditional four-year cycle is obsolete, with institutional catalysts like spot bitcoin ETFs now driving market breakouts. Scaramucci insists the token is at the tail end of the bear phase and expects the halving to tighten prices and push bitcoin back above $100,000.

2. Bitcoin's Sharpest Rally in Five Months Flips Markets From Bearish to Coin Flip
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoins-sharpest-rally-five-months-221801130.html
Published: 2026-08-19 06:18 PM CT
Summary: Bitcoin ripped through $69,000 on Wednesday, climbing as much as 8.7% to an intraday high of $69,749, its steepest one-day move since March 4 and its highest price since June 1. The trigger appears to be macro, not crypto-native: the U.S. Treasury said it will at least double its long-bond buybacks from $2 billion to $4 billion per operation starting September 9, pushing long-end yields down and weakening the dollar. The move wiped out $1.14 billion in shorts across crypto in a single hour, with Bitcoin alone accounting for $677.64 million of that, and crypto-linked stocks followed higher, with Strategy up nearly 12% and Coinbase up 9%. Prediction markets scrambled to catch up: Myriad's 'BTC next move' market, which had traders leaning roughly 70% toward a dump to $55,000 days ago, flipped to a near coin flip by Wednesday afternoon, with 51.9% on $55K and 48.1% on $84K. The next line in the sand sits at $70,284, the lower edge of a resistance band; a daily close above it opens room toward $73,245, while losing $68,000 drags Bitcoin back inside the range that has trapped it since June.

3. Bitcoin posts surprise rally as currency nears $70,000 for the first time since June
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoin-posts-surprise-rally-currency-221838834.html
Published: 2026-08-19 06:18 PM CT
Summary: Bitcoin jumped nearly 6% to over $69,000 on Wednesday, reclaiming a level not seen since early June, after the Treasury Department announced it would double purchases of older long-term government bonds. The move forced short sellers to cover roughly $1.5 billion in positions, including about $700 million in a single minute, which 21Shares said may have been the largest short squeeze in Bitcoin's history. The rally follows months of weak price action after a crash last October that triggered over $19 billion in liquidations and left Bitcoin down about 40% from its $115,000 level. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs drew roughly $1 billion in inflows during the first two weeks of August, adding demand. Grayscale's head of research, Zach Pandl, said Bitcoin may have bottomed at $58,000 earlier this summer, citing fiscal pressures and a proposed SEC regulatory framework for crypto assets.

4. Bitcoin Traders Made Their Boldest Bet in 20 Months: What Happens Next?
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoin-traders-made-boldest-bet-135120337.html
Published: 2026-08-19 09:51 AM CT
Summary: Bitcoin's funding rate hit a 20-month high, a level that previously marked a local top in January 2025 when Bitcoin traded near $102,000. Retail traders drove the spike, with their long/short ratio reaching 2.22 on August 17, while whale positioning stayed calmer at 1.47. Funding has already started to cool, and long positions have fallen even as Bitcoin rose 3.41% since August 16, suggesting deliberate profit-taking. A head and shoulders pattern on the chart points to a potential breakdown if Bitcoin closes below the neckline near $61,763, with a measured move target of $57,894. Bulls need a daily close above $65,419 to cool the setup, and sustained strength above $66,922 would cancel the bearish pattern.
