Would it scale the same, and turn your .02 into 0.0274? If so, let me know. And let me know what the timeframe is like.

Have you not read any of the later comments on this post dude? The site has gone now. Due too US government/scam :/

We need a more organized way of confirming the validity of bitcoin sites, like Angie's list for bitcoin.  Anyone know of such a thing?

Only 85 BTCs?

Yeah, it's BS. I'm 39% of that and I haven't received anything, nor do I expect to receive anything. Contact the FBI and file a complaint, he can enjoy his bitcoin in prison.

Ok.. I can now testify that Mining United is a scam. Condor335 cannot possibly be owed 39% of the remaining 85 BTC because Mining United owes me 74.5 BTC.

I'm the guy who purchased packages of 0.5x40 & 0.5x20 & 0.5x60 from Mining United. The Transactions on the blockchain are:

First, I got an automated reply saying that I'll be given a 100% refund. Now, upon mailing Mining United's gmail address, there isnt even an automated reply anymore.

From the above transactions, 4 BTC was to be returned yesterday. I am now responsible for feeding this guys children & i'm afraid that I'll be the cause of bringing more people like him into this world.

I can live with this loss. But I would like to see this guy be brought to justice. So, I'm offering a 50 BTC bounty on this guys head to anyone who can get me my BTC back.

I like to think I'm smarter than that... but I fell for it too, to the tune of 0.55 BTC.  Not much, but painful because it represented all the BTC I'd earned and a few I'd bought.

In retrospect it should have been obvious--the protestations to say it was a scam so they could prove it wasn't, the warnings about how all those gambling sites will rob you blind (projection?) even while the website author apparently had a Satoshi Dice habit all along, and finally those dubious terms of service which basically translate to say "We can (and will) cut and run at any time."

The guy clearly knew what he was doing, though, because unlike a lot of scam websites, he actually worked hard to make this one look and act legit--everything from posting the percentage of the server taken up, to not allowing new customers for hours at a time, to answering emails in a way that was reassuring, having a strong presence on forums such as this one...

Ultimately, the reason I fell for it has to do with a unique feature of Bitcoin--the fact that it is mined into circulation.  If someone had told me "Send me $25 and I'll send you back $30," I would have said "Yeah, right!" and moved on.  But with the Bitcoin mining process, it at least sounded plausible.  However, as people have pointed out earlier on this thread, the mining math absolutely did not work out, and that was the part I failed to understand.  They say the lottery is a tax on people who can't do math; I guess Mining United turned out to be a tax on those of us who don't have a thorough grasp on how Bitcoin mining actually works--only we're not going to be seeing beautiful parks and recreation areas anytime soon.

In any case, painful, but valuable lesson.  Here is what I learned.

1.  Be sure to have a thorough understanding of every step of the process before putting any money into it.  In other words, take the time to do your homework first.

2.  Don't be so eager to "get in on the ground floor."  I actually did receive one payout, but as someone else also pointed out, getting a pay out does not prove something is not a scam.  It could just mean you got in before it all fell apart, or that you're being enticed to put more in that won't come back.

3.  Don't try some radical new investment right after having a baby!  Those hormones really do affect your brain.  Now I knew better than that, and still did it anyway.  Yes, he will be three weeks old on Tuesday :-)

4.  Never believe you're too intelligent to be taken in.  It happens to the best of us from time to time.

I'm not going to beat myself up.  I know the Bitcoin I lost can be replaced.  Hopefully I will be wiser next time...  I am sorry for all of you who mentioned losing much more than I did.  Hopefully the experience won't be wasted on you either.

I love the idea of an Angie's List for legitimate Bitcoin opportunities.  I would actually like to find some solid and legitimate ways to invest Bitcoins I do earn so that my account can grow.  It would be cool if there was a way to buy a few stocks in some of those new and promising Bitcoin ventures.

And I still think Bitcoin is a wonderful concept...

This is the definition of a Ponzi scheme. Nothing more, nothing less. How do people keep falling for this shit?

Would it scale the same, and turn your .02 into 0.0274? If so, let me know. And let me know what the timeframe is like.

It is not like you were not warned, post #3 in this thread:
according to this thread the "payouts" don't appear on the blockchain, so most probably a scam:

http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMining/comments/1ci7ur/is_mining_worth_starting_this_late_in_the_game/c9gqn7i

And my first two posts.  I was a bit late to the party but I did try to help as many people as I could learn from my past mistakes:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179917.msg2037715#msg2037715
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179917.msg2037808#msg2037808

This is not "I told you so" it is "Many, many people told you so - many times"

yes burt your posts have been consistant and informative, but unfortunately not all to your standards and many resoundingly "I told you so" just being repeated for the sake of it.. i for one waded in and after 10 min realised i had not done due diligence..it was then i discovered this forum. Most folk if like me will have only discovered your valueable insights after the fact so please realise it is condescending and insulting to assume people ignored advice genuinely offered on the forum. It is fundamentally a misunderstanding of the typical usage pattern of a forum with ref to the issue itself and perhaps an apology to the users that did not follow your implied sequence of events might be in order. Huh
