I created this alt because I can't remember my password (or it got changed or something) to my main account, and I keep trying to do the "forgot password" feature, but I never get the email to reset the password.

I know for a fact that it's the same email I used for this account, but it was weird that when I signed up on the forum it never said, "hey this email is already in use".  I know this because this is the only email address I've ever used, and back when I was more active, I still have several emails from the website to my email address.

So either my account got hacked, or something else is going on.

Is anyone able to help, or point me to someone who might be able to help?

I have an email from here back when the passwords were compromised, and I thought I changed my password, but perhaps I didn't (and so maybe it was compromised).  I can forward the message, or give other proof, etc.

Please and thank you Smiley

Do tell us about the account in question.
Then people can try to check if the account's password was changed recently.

The account is:   tonto

I haven't been active on the forums for a while now.  More than a year (actually I think two)?   So if any posts, etc, have been done in the past year, it's definitely not me.

Matter of fact, I took a little bit of time to look at the account:   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=15581

This person is clearly not a native-English speaker.  Look way back at some of my earlier posts:

 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=15581;sa=showPosts;start=900

Fuck I feel sick to my stomach now.  I hope they haven't fucked up any reputation or done anything stupid.  I'm going to have to do some cleanup once it's recovered Sad

Extracting the transaction from this post:

Hey I seem to have lost a deposit.  I sent 2 coins to 1K7hjpjHwJSfXAMdyoTU1eALpbF2FQh9vL (transaction ID: 1c15d52b19e4918e74188bb9d12782ee853e2834b6789b7190ec32695c91610e) for http://bitcoinduit.com/rounds/298 it must have happened right after the crash but my client allowed me to send them Sad

Can I get some assistance or maybe a refund?

This game: http://bitcoinduit.com/rounds/209 won't let me send a deposit, but there's still time left, and I'm hoping to get the timers reset since there's only 5 hours left.

There are two inputs: 1E2rh8Hf9Ls1dYbUKxqrqjzYYxtHBPgWFY and 1BPsPGHY5TbGgr62oTfA3N1EFEvTjtbdEV. Can you sign a message from either of these? This is from 2012.

Or, any of the addresses here: https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/0bfbfe005f9879e3/addresses

Though if you do not have access to one of them, then I fear that you lost access to the wallet storing the keys and thus it will be difficult to find any evidence that you do in fact own the account.

Though, there is a clear dichotomy depicted in these posts:

I also have an email from a user from these forums where I sent him an email and told him my username, and then we communicated via email.

I have some transaction proof as well.  (all links will also have an archive.is link below, in case he tries to delete the messages if he sees this):

 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=78101.msg869152#msg869152
http://archive.is/JVcry

and then a couple days later I send that exact amount:

http://i64.tinypic.com/m8ldnk.png

here I mention my town:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=64232.msg868184#msg868184
http://archive.is/0UvG0

While that's not proof, per se, I can scan in utility bills proving I'm from that town, which I'm willing to bet the current account holder cannot.

Here I finished paying off a loan to a user, and my final payment was on 9/13/12:
 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=104450.msg1188861#msg1188861
http://archive.is/rAu63
 (note the payment address)
 http://i64.tinypic.com/2wpuofd.png

Here I talk about my conceal carry permit:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266556.msg2867755#msg2867755
http://archive.is/hTOWs

Which again isn't proof per se, but I'm willing to bet the current account holder can't provide a scan of (any Kansas conceal carry permit), which I can

Here is where I'm talking about buying a Mossberg shotgun from a user, and I still have our private emails from this person, and can forward those:
 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266556.msg3104715#msg3104715
 http://archive.is/xQtbd

This message, and everything forward from this point, is not me:

 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1663855.msg16721886#msg16721886
http://archive.is/zVNcB

Here we have someone questioning the account, since the email and password were changed:
 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1679224.msg16895389#msg16895389
http://archive.is/pcr1j

I could try to message the person into giving me back the account, but I guess this is my attempt at proofs.

I don't know how to sign a message yet, but I'll try to figure that out.

I think those accounts were from a wallet I used on my work laptop.  I played that game while at work.  I did transfer money between that wallet and my home wallet

 https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/03138b47ececce94?from_address=14ciqtCjzgEXFea4Xzu8tcXHKxRxaahKo7
(this address was my public one I posted on the forums, but can't find any post with it.  I don't know how to trace coins back and forth between the two wallets)

Here's three transactions between my two wallets:
 http://i63.tinypic.com/24y61x1.png

I'm trying to dig through old transactions.  It could have been my coinbase address, too, I'm trying to dig through those.  My work laptop wallet should have a balance of 0.0 btc, and would have for quite some time.

I don't deny your ownership of the account though there may be some who still do and require a signature. This showcases the steps for Bitcoin Core: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0#post_core0100

Just copy in that address, write a message along the lines of, "tonto1992 on bitcointalk.org here. Today is 4/20/2017 and I own the account tonto on bitcointalk."

Then send us the address, message, and signature in a post.

I have another question, which will be part of the "cleanup" once I get my account back.

The hacker (or account buyer, however he came about it), has already attempted to "stake" my account here:

 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg16792491#msg16792491
 http://archive.is/xhvk8

Once the account is mine again, obviously I can delete that post, but the quoted post poses a problem.  I'm guessing I should PM the person who quoted and link this thread and ask them to remove their quoted post, too?

I would to make statement, Might OP right mine of this account, I have bought this account for 0,2BTC.
Yet another example of the shadiness of Bitcointalk. Who did you bought it from?

FYI my negative rating is going to stay on this account until there is reasonable & adequate evidence that it has been returned to the original owner.

hacker tonto:   please tell us who sold you the account.  Don't leave out any details:   bitcoin address you sent to, username, or forum(s) that you saw the account sale, etc.

I will prove ownership tonight when I'm at home and have access to my wallet using the address listed earlier in this thread:  14ciqtCjzgEXFea4Xzu8tcXHKxRxaahKo7

(I can't right now because my client is on my home computer)

to the other guy:   "Attitude is more"

You did the equivalent of breaking into my house.  Oh how nice of you that you did my laundry and kept the place clean.  But the fact is you bought my account (bought a key) and let yourself into my space.

I'm asking for restitution (1 bitcoin).  Obviously I can't make you do it (since we're not in a court and there's no judge that can make you), so I sent you a counter-offer:  You asked me to keep up my signature so you can get rewarded.  I was going to clean house and delete all your posts and try to fix my damn account that you messed up (essentially got my neighbors to not trust me).  OK fine, but if you want that, then send me 1 full bitcoin restitution and I'll leave it up until that campaign ends, otherwise, when I get home tonight, I'm cleaning my account and fixing everything that *YOU* did while in my personal space.   Great, you dusted and made my bed.  Thanks.  Now pay restitution or stfu.   Oh and tell us where you bought the account from.  All details.

You're damn right it's reasonable restitution.  If this were a break-in, you'd be spending time in jail, and paying a fine (and likely restitution as well).
Hell I'll even give your new account reasonable feedback if you pay restitution.   I did stupid shit as a kid, and I got in trouble, and I paid my dues and did work, and when all was done I learned my lesson and the respect of those I wronged.  You certainly did the right thing, and I commend you for that, but the fact of the matter is, you shouldn't have done it in the first place.  You're acting like you're somehow wronged in this situation, which is really starting to irritate me.

So either pay restitution, and I'll do my part, or I'm cleaning my account and trying to unfuck everything that you did.  I have to spend time rebuilding trust now.  Time that I wouldn't have had to do.  Hell just posting on these threads and all the time-wasting I've had to do to recover my account.

Have you thought of this as well?  If you never would have bought the account, you wouldn't have lost your money. Stop buying accounts is the answer. Start a new account and work your way up if you want to earn the ability to participate in signature campaigns, no money lost.

Purchasing an account is risky, your likely to get red flagged due to all of the hacked/stolen accounts that get sold here, which eliminates your campaign and you would likely not get a payout or be able to sell the account anyway. You accepted this risk when you bought an account and should not be complaining. Your lucky you weren't scammed while purchasing it, IF you actually purchased it - which you haven't proven.

tonto is lucky that you bought his account - which is a seriously suspicious sale considering the period of inactivity - and then proceeded to spam up the forum whilst in a signature campaign, create an uneasy reputation for him and then helped an alt of a scammer?

This doesn't seem like you're exactly doing him a favor.

I'm begging you for rewards bounty but your asking me for 1btc? with reason restitution ? xD
Sure, Just delete signature campaign on your account.
I'm able to prove who's guys selling those account, but for what... that's nonsense for me.

You sound pretty entitled.

If someone were to offer you an account that hadn't posted in over a year for 0.2 BTC, would you honestly take it? Did you seriously think that the merchant was the real owner of the account? Why not ask them for a signed message to prove ownership? (we found an address easily enough)

The account thus is evidently hacked and hence you contributed to the market of hacked accounts, encouraging the culprit to continue.

Hey everyone, I'm now home, and here's my signed message confirming I'm back in control of my account:

This is the real tonto.  The one that lives in Lawrence, KS.  It is 4/20/17 at 5:00pm central time (10pm UTC)

Since I haven't received any restitution by my deadline, I will start cleaning up my account as best as possible, and see if I can salvage up that bounty or something.  I hope you all understand, because I feel very violated about the whole thing.

It was unlikely that you would have received anything regardless, given that you couldn't really have impacted anything that he had anyway - unless an alt is discovered with one of his addresses.

The tonto account is currently in the TaaS (an altcoin) signature campaign, which pays stakes of the bounty for every week you've been in the campaign. "tonto" has been in the campaign since March 20, which could be a decent bounty. You would get 12 stakes of the 30k TaaS bounty pool (worth ~30 BTC), which count be a nice payout depending on how many stakes there are. If there are 3600 stakes total, you would get 0.1BTC value of TaaS.

You can find more about the campaign here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1775766.msg17711771#msg17711771

Nice to see you got your account back. If you'd like the bounty, you'd probably have to wait for it to pay out before deleting posts though.

I've removed my trust feedback about helping a scammer.

It does appear the "tonto" from 2012 has got the account back so I have removed my feedback.
If it were me, I'd be happy enough to get my account back and would remove the posts that were not mine and would not accept the campaign payout. The payout would be for crap posts, they weren't done by you, and it just seems like you would be lowering your own integrity by accepting it. Regardless of that, I am glad you got your account back.

I'm not going to do the campaign.  You're right, and I talked to the guy to see if I could get paid, but he said no, unless I start over with my own posts.  I'm not that active anymore anyway, so I'll just clean up the posts.  Had he let me do the campaign, I would have cleaned them up after it was over.

Oh well.  Thanks again everyone with your support, help, advice, etc Smiley
