There was no sign of struggle for Graham potter when he was managing Brighton, his struggles started when he switched over to Chelsea. If Graham Potter was struggling at Brighton there was no way Chelsea would have gone for him, because Chelsea as a club are known for going for the coaches that are doing well in their previous jobs. Graham Potter almost made Brighton untouchable in the premier league, not many premier league clubs could win them during his time there. This was what attracted Chelsea to him. His downfall started immediately he made the switch to Chelsea, as there was no name that Chelsea fans didn't call him before he was eventually sacked.

Well said. However, some coach are meant to stick to managing an average team not an elite team. Graham Potter problem started when he went to Chelsea, it got bad to a point that it affected him as a person and his career as a coach.

Yeah, Palace should have sold Guehi to the Liverpool to ensure he cash out him for money instead of let him leave for free. However it's too late. He has emphasized he's only willing to leave from there for free. No more chance for Palace to cash in him. Sad.

Crystal Palace boss must be regretting his decision, as he had the chance to earn £35m if they had accepted Liverpool's offer on deadline day, but because he couldn't find a replacement for Guehi, he finally decided not to let Guehi go. Now, Guehi has made it clear he does not want to extend his contract, meaning that if Crystal Palace cannot sell Guehi in January, then he can leave for free next summer, and Crystal Palace will not get a penny.

At Chelsea, Graham Potter wasn't able to give his best because perhaps the demands from management were too great for him to meet. In that situation, the pressure could have been different, affecting the team's performance.

Becoming the manager of Brighton is more realistic because they aren't targeting the title, making Graham Potter's job easier due to the lack of pressure. If he ends up coaching Sweden, there's no harm in taking the opportunity, but is he ready for the much greater burden? because usually becoming a national team coach is the dream of many coaches.

I don’t think Guehi is a Real type player. He’s good enough undoubtedly but he’s a very shy, modest man who is a big Christian. I think he will go to Liverpool and I’m not just saying that because I’m a Liverpool fan.

He’s not like for example Alexander Arnold who goes to F1 wearing Prada dungarees, has a model gf, enjoys nightclubs and fame. Real are more likely to get Konate on a free transfer than Guehi.

Replacing a bad coach with another bad coach will never work. I have seen enough how terrible Potter is as a manager. I can see him will do much worse than what JDT did. The only positive thing from him is that he can speak swedish well as he's ever managed Östersunds. However, his past history won't help him so much in his managerial career.

Well, the update by Romano only serves to close what was already known by everybody in the recruitment rooms. The Guehi exit has been simmering since the collapse at Liverpool last summer. The whole thing is laughable as Palace almost priced themselves out of GBP35-40 million, only for him to walk for free in June 2026. It is the classic option-decay error: Hold star longer, lose all leverage later

On the part of Madrid, this is custom-made timing. They have got both Rudiger (32) and Alaba (33) out of contract next summer, which will release over 36 million a year in wages. Put a 25-year-old such as Guehi on about 240k a week, add the 15-20 million sign-on and you have just renewed the back line without incurring a transfer fee. Same playbook they did with Alaba -> Rudiger but with younger legs

And stylistically? The guy already has 17-18 percent ball loss and no defensive mistakes recorded all season, performing in a low-block at Palace. Get him into the 50-metre defensive line of Madrid and those progressive-pass figures (4 per 90) will explode. Very interesting decision. Didn't he get sacked at his club, too? I wonder how he will adapt to a new job with a very short contract. My impression of him is a coach who can instill a long-term game plan for a team that plays for a year or two together. A national team sounds far from that. Then again, there's a first time for everything. The stake doesn't sound too big relative to the chance the team will get qualified anyway, so I guess it's a worthwhile gamble. CMIIW.

This should be a new start for Graham Potter after two poor performances in Chelsea and now West Ham. Sweden is currently bottom of Group B, which makes it hard for them to qualify. Looking at the group, one would have thought that Sweden would have an easy run in a group that has some low-level countries like Kosovo and Slovenia. They would have to win all their games for them to survive.

Of course, that's true, because earning huge amounts of money while being benched is the best a player can ask for, especially after the age of 34. The best chance he has is to play a maximum of 30 minutes on the pitch and easily earn a salary of millions of euros. That's why I think many players come to the Turkish league to rest. The competition in Europe's bigger leagues can be tiring, but they're much more comfortable in Turkey. And the teams don't put any pressure on them. Unfortunately, I must criticize our Turkish league for this. This doesn't improve the quality of the league.
