I got a question: could you also have faulty nodes in your network? For example the NSA spins up some nodes and if people use it the NSA can see everything? Is there something like node validation and if yes, how would that work?

Hi, the idea is to try to grow the network as much as possible to make this scenario much more difficult. Users are incentivized to participate in hosting nodes by earning MYST tokens in reward. The bigger the network the more options for users when connecting to VPN services and that helps avoid these types of situations. There will also be an amount of MYST required to run a node in order to avoid spammers and bad actors. There will be a Reputation System that will help users select their preferred region, speed, reliability, etc. We will also be employing advanced methods like node relaying, splitting of requests and several protocols to help secure our decentralized network.

Nothing inherently bad to your system, but to any system that would offer a decentralized VPN. Still better than having centralized VPNs who find themselves forced to give access to their data by authorities.

Hi, we have our VPN client for Mac available if you would like to use and test it for free. Node hosting testing for main Server Linux distributions is next and will require some server administration experience at the beginning. In the future we will have a more user friendly version that will allow anyone to easily become a node from the main operating systems. We currently have several nodes from various countries and when the users start node hosting testing there will be decentralized options in the network. Current reports about speed and performance are that users are satisfied and normally do not see a difference when browsing.

The node runners will have freedom to set the price that they wish for providing their unused network traffic. It will be an open marketplace.

Cost of Mysterium services will be defined by the node operators. Since this will create a phenomenon known as ‘perfect competition’ – we expect prices to be significantly lower than of current VPN providers.
