Empty block and everybody watching. Shame on Ant!

476754

empty blocks are not an issue. its just luck to get a solution to next block before validating previous..

whats more annoying is the ones that purposefully do not fill blocks even when given time to validate previous block

so shame on BTCC
https://blockchain.info/block-height/476691 - 52kb
https://blockchain.info/block-height/476635 - 31kb
https://blockchain.info/block-height/476610 - 13kb

oh and look BTCC also do empty blocks too

And it's done. There are enough blocks to activate it this period. Now for the period to be up and the activation to occur in 14 blocks' time.

Yes very interesting.

So I guess we all can learn now how a HF could work very nicely.

... And show to the outer world that bitcoin can move.
Who said anything about hard fork? That's the next hurdle since BIP91 activates BIP141 which is a soft fork so no users need to adjust their nodes. If 2x goes ahead in 3 months' time and most users remain on core nodes, we have a split where the vast majority of users will be using a client running off a minority hashrate chain.

Sure , I was just a bit further in time and milestones...
I hope we can get there seeing miners showing their strong commitment these days.

91%.

Further in time and based on a bunch of facts not in evidence... that is called fantasyland

Let's presume something to be true, and then just keep talking about it over and over and over, and pretty soon others will start to believe that is it is true, too, correct?

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

the activation is meaningless..

check out litecoin the pools cant even be bothered to use the keys. yep they can still malleate, quadratic spam and everything else.

..
too many people think the activation is the finish line. where everything is solved. lol.. please people atleast read the code. and not reddit scripts.

It's not the finish line, it's the STARTING line. SegWit is the gateway for other bitcoin added features. Now whether those features will be used extensively or not remains to be seen. It could end up that SegWit will turn out to be a dud and everyone will just continue to use btc as they were in the past.

i'm a little confused.. we're getting SegWit, then a 2MB hardfork.. why does Tone Vays refer to segwit2x as "clown code" that's untested or something?

BIP91 somehow allows SegWit and SegWit2x to work together? is that right?  is the segwit in segwit2x not the same as regular segwit?

Well ...supposedly.....seg witness is now incorporated into 'everyones' type of bitcoin protocol

what about the other shoe to drop here in a few months....ie .....2mb hardfork

the next bit of thought on this thread I guess  ...in that it is SegWit2x +2mb fork ...as I understand it

my own view is....this is where the miners have 'drawn a line in the sand' and won't budge

if my 'likely wrong' viewpoint is correct and I was bitcoin core

I'd go along with the hard fork and get bitcoin core reputation back by making it 'iron clad' with

what the miners want and whatever bells and whistles the coders could drop into this ..now that it

is a done deal........then again..that is just how I'd play it as a bitcoin core dev/assoc etc

(then again the last thing I coded was a 1980 Apple // with BASIC..so I know zip ) Smiley

Others...how do you think it is gonna play out?

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

The NY agreement stipulates that the two are tied together; that by signalling bit 4 they are voting to activate segwit AND the hard fork down the track. They did this in the hope they could get their (useless) block size increase after activating segwit. However there is absolutely nothing that guarantees the lock in of the hard fork 3 months from now based on bit 4 being active at the moment. There is nothing stopping all the miners from simply dropping the btc1 fork code and just using core after segwit is activated, and not all pools actually signed the agreement. Heck there's little sign anyone's actually using the btc1 fork at the moment. Likely they're all custom patched with segsignal just for BIP91 as my pool is.

https://twitter.com/pierre_rochard/status/888163762850717696

I believe that a layman's explanation is that BIP91 facilitates (or forces) the locking in and activation of segwit.  The beginning of the forcing of the signaling of segwit (through BIP141) will start after the 350 block grace period that already started.. which is really in a few days, but will cause the 95% locking in of segwit, which will thereafter cause segwit to activate in the terms of BIP141 , which locking in about mid August .

BIP91 also causes some attention to a possible 2mb blocksize limit increase through a hardfork - however, the language of BIP91 does not seem to mandate those further steps regarding 2mb increase or the hardfork (as mentioned by -ck above).

So the more important thing about BIP91 seems to be providing a vehicle or a channel to activate segwit - which also nullifies the activation of BIP148 (User Activated Soft Fork) that would have gone into effect on 8/1.. but is now unnecessary because of this whole matter of seg wit already going to be on the path of activation, which is what BIP148 would have attempted to cause.

Can anyone say more than that regarding what BIP91 actually causes?  Maybe causes a sense of comfort in the markets to have some kinds of resolution and direction of the segwit portion of the bitcoin fundamentals matter.

[woops I edited some of the above text, and then I saw below that -ck had responded & cited the earlier version]

They just cannot stop fighting - this is sad.... but I hope all understand that there is nothing for free. SW2x is a trade off to keep bitcoin un-split. Hope even the dumbest will learn this on soft way now.

I fear if that stupid fighting comes up again and NYA agreement will be broken - we are doomed and split?
