Question: those gateways, for example Rudex, are they centralized? If I send coins via such a gateway, where are they stored? Are they safe?

those are so called UIA (User Issued Assets), they are basically working like coins on a centralized exchange. just more transparent, but centralized

Hey favdesu,

thanks for answering. I understood it now. I also found the info on the web app where they explain the risks of gateways vs. bridges. I left quite a lot of coins within a gateway, but now withdrew them to my wallet. Better safe than sorry, like always Wink

Observation from this week
This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.

Toni Lane Casserly (@tlc) The Joan of Arc in Bitcoin and Blockchain Technologies; has joined the Billion Hero Campaign! you can find out more about Toni on her Steemit introduction post HERE and the announcement of her involvement in the BHC HERE

This week the founders of door.one have announced and upcoming project to launch a new exchange on the Bitshares network. Door.one will have a web and mobile presence which are both currently in development.. Looking at the announcement they have a very aggressive roadmap. You can find more information HERE

@taconator has released a fee report for the Bitshares network for the month of July. The report goes in to a lot of details as to operations and fees collected. During the month of July; 698,000 BTS were collected for 16,700,00 operations (within 3,280,000 transactions). See the full report HERE

@cm-steem has drafted 2 new BSIP (Bitshares Improvement Proposals) - BSIP-0023 Titled: Sharedropping an UIA against an external cryptocurrency distribution snapshot and BSIP-0024 Titled: Locking Bitshares away as 'Bitshares Influence' for voting privileges on the BTS DEX. @cm-steem has written a number of the previously published BSIP's and these two as with the previous ones are well written proposals with a huge amount of detail on there subject matter.

@richcg has been working on an updated design for the Bitshares.org website. You can view his latest progress HERE

Stealth Bitshares... This feature is not well known as it is somewhat complex to execute in its current form (don't worry @kencode is working on fixing that!). An old but good article was linked in telegram this week and i thought it might be useful for some newer viewers to at least know that Bitshares Stealth is an option. The post written by @vikx titled 'Anonymity and decentralization: an application for the stealth (hidden) transactions of the Graphene / Bitshares / Steem' can be found HERE

Article released on medium this week titled 'Unbanking the Banked' written by @michealx over-viewing Bitsparks recent migration plans to Bitshares and what it means for the movement of money globally. You can find the article HERE

@stan has mentioned on telegram this week that he has an upcoming interview with the community from Pirates without borders - 'Pirates Without Borders is an international association of Pirates. Unlike PPI it accept individuals as members and is itself a member organization of Pirate Parties International.'

@virtualgrowth is doing a weekly market update and token give away; Check out his post and vote on your favorite asset HERE, if you leave you Bitshares username in the comment you may even be one of the lucky recipients of the token giveaway.

This weeks Bitshares hangout recording has been published and is available HERE

Current registered wallets/accounts within the Bitshares network is 394154; an increase of 9925 wallets/accounts since last week

I have now bought about 35k of BTS.This is a very good project for long-term investment, because it should be the pinnacle of the future. It provides the best work solutions for many things. The most important reason for investment value is to return to the original position after a few weeks.

Guys can somebody say about eos and bitshares. I heard that developer of bitshares started new project - eos.
So this mean that bitshares have now less potential?

So this mean that bitshares have now less potential?

Just one of the developers, Dan Larimer (who created graphene tech) built bitshares, steem, and now building EOS on graphene. Many of the developers are still working on each project and it's considered part of graphene ecosystem. Dan was instrumental to bitshares fix recently with his contribution. From what I can see, BTS is likely to become a dapp as EOS sidechain, but it hasn't been established. Meanwhile they are working on things like trustless bitcoin bridges to allow high frequency trustless margin trading with everything including trustless bitCNY/bitUSD on bts chain not possible anywhere else.

It's unlikely it will be abandoned, more like EOS has become bell labs for Bitshares e.g.

https://steemit.com/bitshares/@kayahan/bitshares-ceo-stan-larimer-hints-at-eos-bitshares-bts-collaboration-in-bitsharesdex-telegram-chat

p.s. see news like bitspark using bitshares for remittances. unlikely to go away anytime soon.

2x leverage, not bad

This is not true. Check your math. With 1.75x collateral you have only 1.33x leverage, which is not bad too, but not as good as 2x leverage.

In practice, your collateral should be larger than minimum, like 2x, and with 2x collateral you have no leverage, unfortunately.

Thanks for your comment. I want to make sure this is correct as well because I have an idea based on this, so highly interested.

My math is pretty simple:

For a single margin long step at 1.75x collateral (absolute extreme impossible case)

You lock up 1.75 bts in contract.

You get 1 bts worth of loan (e.g. bitUSD)

you buy 1 bts with your loan

now you have 2.75 bts big position by putting up 1.75 bts giving you 2.75/1.75 leverage or 1.57x

I substituted the numbers into my previously used examples with margin on left and spot on right. For both I observed changed in total worth in bitUSD for 2x increase and for 50% drop in price of BTS. For both increase and drop the leverage calculated (or rate of gain vs loss) was increased by 1.571x compared to spot.

For example the long on increase of price had net profit of 0.362 bitUSD for margin and net profit of 0.231 bitUSD for spot. 0.362/0.231 = 1.57.

Hope this makes sense.

Higher leverage is done by reborrowing bitUSD by using BTS, the BTS you have from buying it with previously borrowed bitUSD to repeat the steps. Kind of confusing, so could be automated to a degree.

To be honest little reason to go more than 2 steps.

You lock up 1.75 bts in contract.

You get 1 bts worth of loan (e.g. bitUSD)

... which means that you invested 0.75 BTS (1.75-1) to short 1 BTS worth of asset, which makes your leverage equal 1/0.75=1.33.

No matter what exactly you do: you may deposit 0.75 USD, buy BTS worth of 0.75 USD, short 0.75/1.75 bitUSD, add BTS to collateral, short more bitUSD, ..., repeat this infinite number of times; or you may deposit 1.75 USD, buy BTS worth of 1.75 USD, issue 1 bitUSD, convert it to USD and withdraw it back to your bank account. The end result is the same in both cases: you short 1 bitUSD, you have 1.75 USD worth of collateral locked, your investment is 0.75 USD => your leverage is 1/0.75=1.33x. Period.

No, this does not change your leverage. Leverage depends only on collateral ratio.
