Yeah, the 4 hours of browsing is kind of annoying.

I wish I had registered a long time ago, because I have already spent hours browsing the forums as a guest.  Oh well, it shouldn't take too long to get out of this newbie state.

Hey, if this gate-keeper method is truly effective, than the quality of the posts should be at least marginally better outside the newb area than inside the newb area. But I haven't really noticed a difference. Hmmmmm...

Two more minutes, and I can post where I want! And by now I've discovered there's plenty to keep me busy just in the newbie zone!

+1

The time logged on counter seems to stop counting if inactive too...

First post.

I've been reading this forum for over 18 months but never had anything useful to say. I signed up to claim bounty for adapting cpuminer to scrypt-jane. I need to make 5 posts before I can reply to that thread. I don't like this very much, because I have to make five useless posts before I can post something useful that people actually wanted. I tend to think it makes post quality worse because it does nothing to stop people who have a lot of nothing to say.

I'm mostly in agreement with the other people saying "I wish I'd known" so that my time spent curiously browsing the other boards would have counted in my favor. I only made an account when I wanted to reply and was surprised by the Newbie restrictions. Hopefully the services I hoped to barter haven't gone to another poster by the end of my four hours.  Cheesy

I will make sure that I warn other people about the Newbie restriction when I direct them to this board, though. I have at least one friend browsing right now, and his own Newbie status would probably be less than painful if he was building up board time while lurking.

I've served 3 hours and 20 minutes of my newbie sentence.

40 more gruelling minutes to go.
