And also pretty awesome... 20.3 KH on Yescrypt from the Dell servers.

That is like $11 / Day right now on GlobalBoost coin... not bad at all.

This algo pumps it up to an 800-watt draw.

I used Cpuminer-Yescrypt & compiled on Ubuntu.

https://github.com/koto-dev/cpuminer-yescrypt

Also... 64 threads is the fastest. I tried a ton of different thread counts.

Have you tried cpuminer-opt?  I am getting faster hashrate with that, I think probably because it has the ability to affine to cpu

How much were these servers again?

They WERE 700 to 900... They are now close to 1500 and even an 63xx CPU is going for a premium thanks to someone we know.  Heck, they are even being advertised as miners on Ebay now! Sad

<3

You can get broadwell chips with L4 cache. P6300 and P6200 both have the same 128MB L4 edram that others were talking about previously in this thread.

E3-1258L v4
E3-1278L v4
E3-1265L v4
E3-1285L v4
E3-1285 v4

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-E3-1285L-v4-Processor-CPU-3-4GHz-LGA-1150-SR2B1-4-Core/302606489923?hash=item4674c09943:g:AOAAAOSwzRFaX-X2

Note: there was a change with the edram/L4 in skylake. There are also skylake processors with iris pro, but I have no idea if it will work the same as the other chips.

That was totally not worth it for $249....

I had a source lined up for $100 chips (ES Xeons with P6300) but the God damn Chinese are worthless to me and lied about having them. Between this and my PUBG experience I am beginning to hate them.

If you think that is a good value then you'll love the the new AMD apu's that are based on Ryzen with VEGA graphics on die. Only $100 for the cheapest one (Quad core + 512 VEGA GPU cores, unlocked CPU and GPU core) , should do at least 500 H/s between the CPU and GPU. In the least it would be a better choice for a rig CPU than a celery that will never ROI itself.

I think 500 H/S is wishful thinking.  The 8 MB cache will be a limiting factor and I doubt the onboard GPU will contribute much if any hashrate as it will drag down the cpu performance.

Cryptonight will absolutely hash just fine on that Vega die since its not a memory intense algo.

It is possible it will make the CPU throttle a bit, but it is an unlocked chip and with a hearty cooler it may be able to run @ 4.0 Ghz + Vega GPU OC'd as well. True the CPU has only 8 MB cache but should be fine for a 4 core/4 thread Ryzen 3 2200G.

Who knows, ill buy one to play with and see how it goes. should be a good chip for a mining rig anyway. I got some $25 AM4 boards from newegg so it wont cost much overall.

I hate AMD with all my heart though, my recent experience with a Vega 64 (wattman doesn't even save clocks on restart... wtf)  and some Radeon 7870's has been horrendous compared to Nvidia which literally "just works". So we will see how their CPU stacks up.

get your racisit bullshit out of here. You know my grandfather fought in WWII. He hated certain people because they made him kill civilians. Those people would put their civilians in guard positions with sticks in their hands. My grandfathers CO said kill anyone with a weapon. After they looked at the bodies they realized they were holding sticks. He hates the people that would do that to their civilians.

Calm down buddy.... none of that is relevant here.

Just compiled it and gave it a shot -- it is indeed a tiny bit faster on these Dell machines. Getting ~21-21.3 kH with cpuminer-opt now.

Sadly... it seems like Yescrypt coin profit has totally crashed BAD.

So... things are looking pretty bleak in the crypto world.

BUT I did some quick math, though, and discovered I only need ~$1200 or so BTC value to cover my power costs (assuming alts fall at the same rate as BTC)... if it goes below that I'll have to shut off my CPU mining activities to stay above power cost. Although, I do not feel like it's going to get THAT bad it's nice to know =)

It certainly is a memory intense algo, in the sense that the bottleneck is always the amount of cache memory available.  Vega GPU is going to use DDR memory, making it unusable.  That is the big benefit of Iris Pro, it comes with a 64+ MB cache for the GPU.  To be honest these new APUs will probably perform like the Ryzen 3 1200

I have one of the DELL Servers rolling... getting ~2100 H/S out of the box first try.

Using ~675 watts or so.

What config are you using? I finally got setup today and am only getting 1500 h/s from the Dell server on Ubuntu 16 and XMR-STAK-CPU

What's my best option for mining if I only want to start with a few hundred $ at most? Or do I really need 1K to get started? I am currently doing a little mining on a laptop that doesn't have much in it (I get like 120 H/s CPU+GPU on CryptoNote algo). I do have a 12 year old gaming desktop that I could put a new GPU in I suppose, but I don't how bad the motherboard/cpu/ram is going to hold it back.

Thanks for your input.

for that much $, get yourself a used dual Xeon *that supports AES* and start CPU mining. Once you get a little more green, add a gpu or two to it.

Your gaming machine - does it have PCI-e slots?

Looks 1x PCI-e x16, 1x PCI-e, and 4x PCI.

Here's the MB: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138026

Here's the GPU in it: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814141032

Don't think your GPU has enough ram to do much. You can pick up a rx550 or 560 fairly cheaply and start that way. Later change out your mobo and processor to get more hr.

Found a good deal on ebay for some cpu miners..

2.1Kh/s ready to go for $300 at 420w cpu tdp -- There's like 100Kh/s worth of cpu miners available..

Trying to decide if I should tell you guys about it or pull the trigger myself  Undecided

You'd have to buy them all to get it at that price (did some negotiations with the seller). Otherwise it will be closer to $420. (prices don't include shipping).

These aren't exactly plug and play, you'll have to know what you're doing with servers and linux to use them. But, if you do, there's a lot of stuff out there. You can build a 40gigabit network in your house for a couple $100. Or a 100gbit network for < $5000. I like trolling for the latest infiniband cards to play with.
