The best advice to anyone considering investing in any ICO or project is to think carefully before parting with your money

I have enough PMs from all sorts of alleged coders who can create the best of the best but all of them have been scammers trying to take money, many asking 25% in advance without any real contract and with no recourse or protection for the investor.

One of the biggest flops was valduz10 purporting to be a coder who will make an exchange for $5000. He offered nothing in contracts and wanted the 0.25 BTC immediately to make a demo site which he would show after 3 weeks. In the final part of the "project" he wanted several thousands to go to CPC and CPM sites that he claimed to have coded which would advertise banners and had some google-dream up his sleeve too. Upon realising his scam was outed, he resorted to name calling like "boyo" and "wierdo".

Another was AikFrank, a Nigerian who wanted 5 BTC to make a Visa card associated with bitcoin wallets which he claim he coded from scratch. He insisted on chatting in a private Tawk.to box rather than leave evidence here in PMs. He claimed he was going to get free hosting but asked for money because he was working on the project full time for 4 weeks. I advised him to change the free adminLTE dashboard and show me a tangible product but then the truth unfolded. He now claims he sold the "company" to a UK company. Upon rumbling his scam he resorted to name calling such as "ghost" and "time waster" both ironically could be applied to himself  Smiley   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1931218.0

There are more but the moral of the story is... Too many scammers here. Some must be making a tidy sum every month by ripping people off, like a salary without actually having a job but happy bringing pain to investors.

Yup, there are TONS of scammers on this forum... But who are you to blame them? They need money, so they chose to scam people for it.
I don't think that scamming is good, but it's just a choice they made. We should just avoid trading with them and ignore them for the rest of their lives.

Anyways, there are also a lot of legit ICOs which are worth it to invest in. I think people should just think a bit better themselves, before investing.
There has been so many threads saying stuff like this, but yet people are getting scammed every minute.

Regards,
Trump

This is nothing new. When value is involved there always be scammer or thieves who want to steal your money. Just be careful with your money, doesn't matter if it's cash or crypto currency. Always do your homework when investing into something.

The projects you listed are small time projects, I think the bigger issue is that its hard to tell from big money ICOs if they are a scam or not. Those small projects are easy to avoid but unfortunately some idiot will always support them anyway.

@Panda Trump
Yes you are right, there are lots of lCOs that have no intention of scamming but picking the right ones out is difficult. Personally, I do not do ICOs as I see no need for them. If someone believes in their altcoin then they should not need to premine and should not need ICOs

@lockept93
Thanks for that link Smiley

@DOMAINBROKER
I agree. There are too many scammers here but how can moderators filter them? Sadly it is a near impossible task

@xFiber
Totally agree. Doing research before investing is a must however most scammers here like to play a long game of reeling people in over a period of time before scamming them

@caldero
I agree the ones I listed are small scams. Moving on to ICOs, I go with the notion that all are scams and keep away from them. And yes, unfortunately there are always people who fall prey to scammers but I prefer to call them victims rather than idiots because the scammers have fooled them and preyed on them before robbing them. I lost money in Cryptsy and consider myself a victim of fraud

 Wink

Yes maybe but so far no one received a penny from me. Many dreamers sending many messages asking for money but when it comes to showing something tangible they make excuses in the hope getting some money or in the event of the bitcoin visa card scammer, he went so far as to give an URL with adminLTE which he claimed he coded from scratch. What a time waste.

I agree, there are ICO's which dont tend to scam and do have really a serious project but the really main problem here on selecting which is promising and we know its not easy specially when you are a complete newbie on this field.If you are really interested on joining ico then better to know the basics and even the recommended things that should be considered first before jumping in.

I agree. There are too many scammers here but how can moderators filter them? Sadly it is a near impossible task

The moderators will only get involved when sufficient proof is given that these members are involved in scams. Nothing will stop them from creating new accounts or even buying accounts to hide their real identities. You cannot expect the moderators of this forum to prevent this from happening. People should just report the scammers here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0 and help to identify the people behind this. Other than that, people should use common sense and not pay people in advance for any service. If you have to pay in advance, use a reputable escrow services and wait for these people to show results, before you release any payment. ^smile^

Because it is more difficult to set up a proper and legitimate business for profits, than to ask for investors and run away with the money. Less effort, more profits, who wouldn't want that? Of course it is wrong, and even the scammers themselves know that.

I never invested in ICOs before, as I think the altcoin market is quite saturated already, and you never know what will happen to that coin in the future. Sure, if the ICO turns out successful, you may easily have 1000% profits, but if it drops, you lose everything.

In the online world, sadly we have to, for ourselves, learn to distinguish whats scam and whats not, and I think this is a valuable skill in the online community, so stay safe! Holding your Coins in a desktop client would be the safest way to go. Smiley

I advised him to change the free adminLTE dashboard and show me a tangible product but then the truth unfolded.
You know nothing about web development, when you keep on saying LTE just made me believe you know nothing

He now claims he sold the "company" to a UK company Smiley   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1931218.0

What prove do you have that the whole project work and license was not sold?

To me, you are just seeking attention here. I have refused to respond to most of your questions cos i just believe you are a big time waster, you have nothing, you just seeking attention.

You said i requested cash from you, pathetic.

He insisted on chatting in a private Tawk.to box rather than leave evidence here in PMs.
You are the ghost. You said you don't have skype, that you are always on whats app that's its too early to start sharing phone. I was very open and straight forward just to get your trust. Instead you just had a Mission

He claimed he was going to get free hosting but asked for money because he was working on the project full time for 4 weeks.

This made me believe you absolutely know nothing, YOU KNOW NOTHING! So a project manager will tell you he is using free hosting for his project? You are a time waster!

There are more but the moral of the story is... Too many scammers here. Some must be making a tidy sum every month by ripping people off, like a salary without actually having a job but happy bringing pain to investors.

Like i continue to say, you have nothing, i was just smarter than you, but your voice was louder!

There were some technical questions you were trying to ask me which i was not comfortable with, and thank God i didn't answer them, i only wanted us to sign a deal first before exposing more of the business secret, like Company issuing cards and more.

When i knew you are a big time waster. You told me on chat that you would be investing 10BTC, ( I never requested cash from you, the agreement was for me to complete the whole project which i agreed to, and i said between 3 - 4 weeks which we ended chat with, and we talked about signing some contracts)

and after 2 days you came to the open and said the following.

"I was one of the ones who has seen the under construction demo of this project and can say that though the idea has potential, I have concluded the development has been very slow and cannot recommend it to anyone either. I have decided I will not be investing"

How does that relate to what we have discussed?

I was one of the ones who has seen the under construction demo of this project and can say that though the idea has potential, I have concluded the development has been very slow and cannot recommend it to anyone either. I have decided I will not be investing

Since you were the one who contacted me and gave a rubbish public view, then i decided to give the project to those who i think will make it better. What's your pain exactly?

1) That i cannot sell the project?
2) You wanted to join the site and use it and am not updating the thread? (cos i know you have nothing)
3) That am black to be more knowledgeable than you?
4) That i won?
5) That you are a looser?

If you quote me or any of my thread again, i will be back.

@carlfebz2
Yes the genuine ones are probably backed by those people that have been here for a while and have some status. That still does not make it a viable option to invest, all it means is that the chances of them being serious to the project will be better than say dreamers who want to create bitcoin related visa cards and so on who prefer to chat on Tawk.to rather than here as it leaves no evidence of the conversations.

There will always be good options to consider but it is the projects that are a fraud from the word go that are created as a mirageof a real project but only want to steal your money that are the ones this forum cannot stamp out.

@Kakmakr
That is a good place to let people know about scammers and yes I understand moderators cannot remove fraudsters. I hope these fraudsters such as the Nigerian bitcoin visa card one and the one who wanted 0.25 btc to start working on a demo that was to be presented to me after 3 weeks for me to decide if I want to invest or not are ones that are hard to filter out by the moderators but they play the long game trying to get friendly to convince you that they are legit but they have only one thing on their mind: to steal from you

@EXtremeAEX
Nicely said about staying safe in an online world. After losing some coins in Cryptsy I have nothing stored on online wallets any more. I guess you are right in that just keeping safe and staying away from scammers in this place is in itself an art. I agree with you about the altcoin market being saturated and making profits in the 1000s% is possible but so could the losses. Nice advice, thank you.

AikFrank and valduz10 have been rumbled so beware everyone... I would advise to keep away from them

AikFrank wanted money as he said he did not eat properly for over 4 weeks and had to pay bills but because he was working full time on this "project" and he needed some money. I explained to him that after 4 weeks of working on it full time he should have at least has something better than a free download of adminLTE as his base. He was surprised I clocked his bragging about coding the site from scratch then he said he was a developer not a designer (yes, make of that what you will!). I explained I would give nothing until I saw a tangible working website or one that was nearly completed.

He used adminLTE for the admin but had nothing in UI to show for the customer UI where users sign up and register. Absolute waste of time, fortunately for him I was open minded and gave him the benefit of the doubt and said the site had potential but when he told me he had not paid bills nor eaten for over 4 weeks as he was working on this full time and he wanted money to support himself, I just had to laugh. He had no idea about legal fees for contracts for investing or selling and now claims he "sold" the project to a UK based company...

Another was one was a Nigerian who wanted 5 BTC to make a Visa card associated with bitcoin wallets which he claim he coded from scratch.

In the world of money, it is inevitable to have lots of scammers. People who would take advantage on the less knowledgeable and rob them. thank you for alerting other people with this. Scammers are really everywhere so we should be extra careful who to make business with. There are legit experts here tho whom you can trust and can ask to.

It has been a pleasure highlighting these scammers, it has been my duty to alert others to their scams.

You are absolutely correct and adding on to that my advice would be avoid ICOs completely but if one does get tempted to pump their hard earned cash in to it then surely they should only consider investing after checking the feedback and profile on the forums of those behind the ICOs.

For those being bombarded with requests to enter in to business with them, I would reiterate the same advice. Check feedback and never ever part with cash until or unless you see tangible evidence of the capabilities of the coders such as a URL.
