I believe to avois this scams is to simply be careful, read before you decide to join or invest. Be critic on everything, find out the basic requirements that you have to know about the ICO, like how it works by reading the whitepaper, ann or even the reputation of the dev itself i think by that you can surely know what you are up to.

I think a big trust signal is the transparency of the ICO - if the thread includes links to peoples LinkedIn profile, twitter accounts (that have existed for a while) and other legit social media profiles, than that is a sign that there are real people behind the ICO, who put their identities and reputations at stake for the success of the project. That might not make scams 100% impossible, but at least, you will see that there is an actual existing person behind it.

Unlike, for example, the recent fraud ICO "Lust", where they posted a nice set of pictures of the "founders" (without any links to profiles), and, of course, it was quickly revealed that the pictures are from a stock photo site and the ICO was a scam promoted by hacked accounts and bots.

As an experience scammer you would really be meticulous on this stuffs since you are trying hard to convince the public and do deceived their naked eyes on the true purpose. Using stock photos and name would only work on the first attempt of scamming but if people are already aware on those names or images then they are already alarmed and they do already know on the thing they should do.

It's obvious that there are a lot of scammers on the forum. Thousands of people come here to look for the best project to invest. It's a perfect source of naive investors who are easy to fool.

Everyone should just realise that an investment is always a risk. Make researches. Maybe even look up for particular ICOs on special sources making overviews. Just important to be smart and make into trusted projects or be brave and take the risks

I have enough PMs from all sorts of alleged coders who can create the best of the best but all of them have been scammers trying to take money, many asking 25% in advance without any real contract and with no recourse or protection for the investor.

One of the biggest flops was valduz10 purporting to be a coder who will make an exchange for $5000. He offered nothing in contracts and wanted the 0.25 BTC immediately to make a demo site which he would show after 3 weeks. In the final part of the "project" he wanted several thousands to go to CPC and CPM sites that he claimed to have coded which would advertise banners and had some google-dream up his sleeve too. Upon realising his scam was outed, he resorted to name calling like "boyo" and "wierdo".

Another was AikFrank, a Nigerian who wanted 5 BTC to make a Visa card associated with bitcoin wallets which he claim he coded from scratch. He insisted on chatting in a private Tawk.to box rather than leave evidence here in PMs. He claimed he was going to get free hosting but asked for money because he was working on the project full time for 4 weeks. I advised him to change the free adminLTE dashboard and show me a tangible product but then the truth unfolded. He now claims he sold the "company" to a UK company. Upon rumbling his scam he resorted to name calling such as "ghost" and "time waster" both ironically could be applied to himself     https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1931218.0

There are more but the moral of the story is... Too many scammers here. Some must be making a tidy sum every month by ripping people off, like a salary without actually having a job but happy bringing pain to investors.

There are many of them, and we cannot really avoid and tell who they are. But I feel so sad for them actually. Because all they can do is to scam other knowledgeable less people. I can also consider them as a fools actually, because they are cheaters hiding in their smart stupid words. I think they cannot make a profit without their skills on lying. And I hated all of them. And thank you for the information, now we are more aware on them.

That is why we always need to be careful before we invest, and before we put our time to their lies.

Yup, there are TONS of scammers on this forum... But who are you to blame them? They need money, so they chose to scam people for it.
I don't think that scamming is good, but it's just a choice they made. We should just avoid trading with them and ignore them for the rest of their lives.

Anyways, there are also a lot of legit ICOs which are worth it to invest in. I think people should just think a bit better themselves, before investing.
There has been so many threads saying stuff like this, but yet people are getting scammed every minute.

I completely agree with you - in any case, I don't see that scammers are pushing and forcing to invest into their projects. It is completely your decision to invest or not invest your crypto currency. Of course, people should analyze ICO projects and choose only real and perspective ones.

Easy money always attract dirty people.
But there is a hope that some ICOs are still going to realize their ideas.

We have to pay more attention to ICOs which did already something real for the project (software, hardware and so on) and doing ICO to continue, not to start.
Usually they have immediate and exact answers to any question regarding their project in opposition to scammers which tell too much common words about nothing.
