There was a lot of fuss regarding Quarkcoin in the last few days. Now, it's dropping. What do you think? Is that it for QRK? Or will it continue to grow?

Premined scamcoin. Cool idea, bad backing

Is there some place where you can learn how to do mining?  I am brand new at this and want to know the RIGHT way to do this.  You guys are pros and know the how to's.  Thanks  Cheesy

You should check the "readme" file of the miner you are going to use. Some pools have some brief "how to" sections as well.
Download cgminer for example and read the "readme"

I've recently picked a few litecoins & peercoins. I've been rather narrow-minded believing in bitcoin only, but after seeing LTC jump 500 % in a few days I caved & bought 3 for fun. I like peercoin, they seem to actually offer something unique with the proof-of-stake idea. Quarkcoin seems to me to be a scam with nearly all of them owned by the developer & his friends. Quick way to make a bundle of money I guess... Buyer beware.
I'm hopeing this constitutes a good initial post for a noob to graduate to the full forum. I'm a bitcoiner since Feb, spend months studying cryptography & I'm fully BTC-obsessed. I've been stalking these forums like a fiend for almost a year. I usually just read, no need to post so why bother making an account but now I'm desperately trying to get in on a group mine. Crossing my fingers that it's still available in 4 hours...

Let me welcome you at the forum then Wink.

On which kind of group mine are you looking for? There are many topics about pools here, some are better than others. If I may give you a hint, try to read the replies to the topics about the pools to check it's trust and uptime, and compare different pools. Good luck!

{Curently quite inactive as I'm really busy in my private life. I will get back soon!}

So I'm thinking about buying GLD Coin since I heard from numerous hacker forums it will most likely rise.  I got 4 LTC to spend, and I'm thinking about using 1 LTC to buy a bunch of em.  Is this a bad idea?  What are your thoughts on GLD Coin?

Thanks for the warning... I will keep to BTC because it's way more stable than Alt-Coins.

Finally , somebody thinking right what to do with his money.

I am mining Alt-Coins as they have the best chance of any returns but am playing safe by converting my coins into BTC at the first opportunity.

Doing the same but keep a small portion as well to invest.

this is my plan exactly, how is this working out compared to pools that mine altcoins and pay out in btc? do you think its worth the extra work and risk?

im a little worried that i will build up a good amount of alt coins and not be able to exchange them for something a little more stable before they flop

Same here- I'm mining and converting 90% into BTC or LTC, and then keeping a handful of different coins just in case values or ratios against BTC spike.

LTC is a bit inflated at the moment I believe, so selling and hedging in other coins isn't a bad idea!

For mining: Litecoins, Feathercoins or XPM. They have good rates now. Also its better to find a pool.

There is other option to get some coins... get them from Market (cryptocurrency exchange). Remember to check Market fee on withdrawal/transfer.

What if Alt currencies don't disapear?! there are so many that have a real benefit to the Bit coin system.

A lower Block time is one big positive. plus if Bitcoin does break the 2000 or much higher it will need complimentary currencies so that we aren't all dealing in 0.0000001 to buy a Bigmac.
