You guys heard of emercoin? Not much info out there at the minute just wondering if it worth mining. The difficulty is silly high for a new alt. But from what i have read it seems to have dedicated dev team.
I read about it on a Russian forum from its developers' thread. There was a huge ASIC network mining this coin right from the start. In hours difficulty raised to an unreachable level for a common PC miner. So I suppose it's not worth it.

I don't believe its such a waste of time. I've been trading with Grandcoins lately and multiplied my initial investment into it by 30 (on the BTC level). While just a few days ago, Grandcoins went from 0.00000008 to .0001 BTC in the matter of hours and immediately got dumped. But its re-stabilized around .00000500 to .00000400 which is still 50 times greater then what it just was a couple weeks ago. The a$$holes who pump n dump are always going to be around. But just like how Bitcoin made it through it, i really think other alt coins will do so too.

Hi. I started with mining Litecoin, but have moved on to Doge. Even if it's a silly meme fad, I think the exposure from how stupid it seems will make it valuable in some way. It's an easy way to start in mining, but it can also be a very dangerous game. Doge address: DU6i8CA3jFBw939hwni7fQ2KXWTFgkPNni

Almost all of the alt-coins are there are going to be a waste of time. They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped.
Be careful about wasting time with too many alt coins.
I bet thats the kind of thinking many had about Bitcoins in the beginning but look where it is now. I am not bashing you in anyway, I just feel like qualifying your statement. People should really research what their going into because maybe one of the Alt-coins will have a boom like BTC. i think so

I just fired up a pool for RoyalCoin which is mucho profitable per Coinchoose. PPLNS 2% fee with Stratum and Vardiff support. Registrations are open at: http://ryc.axomi.com. I'd have posted this outside of newbies, but, well, I'm a noob.

Apparently newbies can't post in other sections so I'll just post here. Why hasn't Quark Coin been moved into the major coin category in the alt coin section? It's one of the more serious contender for alt currency. Also the list hasn't been updated since October. Either that thread needs to be updated or deleted and made a new one with more up to date information.

I like alt coins, common person cant mine bitcoins now when 1th/s asics are mining non stop, you can only mine alt-coins successfully without any expensive gear.

While I agree with what some are saying about how mining new coins can be fun, sometimes it just isn't worth the effort. Case in point... I had about 130MH's on CEX.IO and let it mine for about a week. At the end of the week I was able to mine about 1/5th of a Devcoin along with much less of a Bitcoin and Namecoin.
In comparison, I went over to the Devcoin Faucet site (link below in my signature) and was able to get 5 whole Devcoins for a couple seconds of work. I was a little stunned that it was so much easier to have them given to me instead of waiting for them to be mined.

Hi everyone,
I started out with LTC only a short while ago, but when I heard about Doge I switched immediately. Such great coin! As soon as I have a fair amount of those I will be switching back to LTC though.

Looks like my ancient account to this forum have died. Guess I'm a noob.
I've decided to make my own crypto as part of my PhD. You guys have to wait some years.
