Wasn't planning to comment on airdrop rules changes. Being Junior Member myself, proposed changes might affect me and as a result my opinion might be considered biased. But here's my 2cent, take if fwiw.
(1) First of all, I think all changes to airdrop rules, signatures or avatars should be announced right after one airdrop ended so there’s enough time for applicants to notice and comply for the next airdrop. Last minute changes creates uncertainty and that’s not a good thing (for applicants in particular, but also for the whole ecosystem in general).
(2) It’s one thing to measure quantitative variables such as number of posts or the post length (minus quotes, hyperlinks...etc) but it’s another thing to measure quality as this is bound to be subjective and as such it might stir up lot of controversies, accusations… These things doesn’t look good from marketing point of view. It would really helpful if the rules would be stated as clearly as possible and accompanied with as much example as possible.
(3) One such example are posts in offtopic (disclaimer: I did some of those). Favorite food, favorite car, favorite music… Most of those thread don’t have a real discussion going on, it’s just a bunch people answering questions in OP one after another without interacting with each other. This is true even for a lot/most of political threads in Politics and Society. Are such posts excluded? If yes, why don’t just exclude the whole subforum?
(4) Also, in the situation, where rules are not clear, how can the applicants check, if they comply with weekly requirements? How do they know, how many of their posts would be counted and how many wouldn’t ?
(5) I don't think bitcointalk official forum rules help to clear ambiguity. Applicable rule would be a rule #1: "No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads". According to the provided examples, this mostly include one-word posts, posts consisting mostly of swearing, quote pyramids.... In other words, so called one liners are perfectly acceptable according to aforementioned forum rules.
TLDR: I don’t mind the idea of airdrop rules changes
- but they should be done in the way that gives people enough time to comply
- and the rules should be stated as clearly possible
