Very good ideas. I really like the idea of reloadable plastic coins with qr code. Once 100 merchants in New York City support NewYorkCoin then they will be the businesses that initially accept the "cards" and can ultimately set the value.
1 NYC = 1 cent sounds like a good place to start.
Why would the business owner {temporarily} accept less immediate value for their goods - on a very small and infrequent basis? Because they will each own 10+ m NYC and will all benefit from recognizing her true value.

Founders of NYC disappeared at launch. Github is inaccessible. NYC will get dev support once awareness in New York City rises. Right now we have the original wallets (newyorkc-qt), paper wallet generator, YoBit exchange wallet and I have submitted fully answered questionnaire to coinomi engineering team for addition.

Request to update coinmarketcap happened immediately. They likely have a backlog. If not updated by end of this weekend, I will resubmit request.

Thanksgiving Day Parade will get NewYorkCoin finally seen by her demographic. Like an official GRAND OPENING for NewYorkCoin. And the week-long boots-on-the-ground awareness campaign should get us close to our goal of 100 retail storefront merchants. Initially posting an awareness sticker. Ultimately becoming the base of NewYorkCoin.

NYC currently has 4 NYC merchants supporting NewYorkCoin (stickers will be posted within 7-10 days - they have just finished silkscreen printing and are in the mail):

1. KEATS Bar & Restaurant
842 2nd Ave
New York, NY 10017

2. EPIC Hybrid Training
38 W 38th At
New York, NY 10018

3. EPIC Hybrid Training
226 E 54th St, 3rd floor
New York, NY 10018

4. B&V Convenience Store
211-01 Jamaica Ave
Queens, NY 11428

P. S. Wise purchase, my friend

I agree. Original wallets are a little outdated (2014) and need to be updated. They work fine but a bit slow and show old bitcoin network alert message.

I am really hoping NYC is added to coinomi.

How much is 100,000 worth?

0.000018 * 100000 = $1.8 as of now.

Hi everyone! I'm super brand new here - I just figured out how to reply.  Cheesy

Last night, I downloaded the wallet from nycoin.net - easy enough (especially because this whole crypto and 'wallet' thing is so new to me).

I followed all of the instructions, one by one, including how to make the .conf file.

Everything seemed to be installed properly, with one exception. I had zero active connections to newyorkc network. In other words, I couldn't sync. Then I realized that although I made the Word Pad .conf file, I never saved it in the newyorkc folder. So I did that.

Great! It was working! I had one bar, and it was syncing. Only about a million and a half blocks to go!  Tongue

All of a sudden, my active connection was gone. I don't know what happened, but I'm not able to sync any more.

I've read through some of these pages, but I haven't found any answers. Have any of the nodes been updated that maybe I'm not aware of? Here's what's inside of my .conf file:

rpcuser=nycuser
rpcpassword=somepass
rpcport=18823
addnode=76.95.178.229:17020
addnode=82.200.205.30:17020
addnode=163.172.222.175
addnode=5.101.122.184:17020
addnode=213.239.211.229:17020
addnode=188.40.78.31:17020
addnode=120.77.149.118:22556
addnode=118.123.245.243:22556

Thanks in advance for any help that you could provide. Also, I realize that NYC has changed from Coin Gather to YoBit. I did buy coins in Coin Gather before the change. Once I get in sync with my wallet, will I still be able to move them from Coin Gather to my wallet? Thanks again! (Upstate New Yorker here  Grin )

Thank you for that, but nothing is happening. Is this something where I should leave it on for a while, and hope that something 'catches'? I closed it out before I went to bed last night. I thought maybe it was something in the firewall, but I'm not seeing anything. The little arrows on the bottom of the app are still rotating, but it can't seem to find a connection.

If they are rotating and the little bar graph has at least one black bar, you are syncing.  You can also go to the help on the wallet and open the debug window.  There is an information & console page.  The info page will show you number of connections & current number of blocks being counted, and the date will change.

Please also note that it may take a day or two to fully sync.  This depends on the number of connections, line speed etc.

The arrows are rotating, but there are no bars on the graph. When I hover over the graph, it says, "0 active connection(s) to newyorkc network."

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I just went to https://github.com/newyorkcoinfoundation/nycoin/releases and downloaded the files there. Different view - same problem. There must be some reason why I can't make a connection. I just don't know what it would be.  Sad
