It's okay to me when people call bitcoin is called with token or whatever. Bitcoin gives me profit and all that matters. I'm happy with it.

Bitcoins can be called token. And I also do not care about calling this token. Because whatever we make is just like the coins and tokens. There is also no problem calling this token. And even though I sometimes called it a token. So let's not waste time with these things. This is my only opinion and if there is a better explanation I will not fight it anymore but I will also listen to your statements

A token for what?

What can I redeem if I have bitcoin? Is Bitcoin a voucher of something else?

Why does anyone still trust the media?

To me Bitcoin is a protocol. Bitcoins are the token / coins of the bitcoin protocol. So yes bitcoins are tokens/units/coins call them how you want.

sometimes these articles are written by people who are not at all familiar with bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. sometimes it is a deliberate mistake, or even possibly they call it "token" because they don't want bitcoin to be a coin or a currency.

in the end it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't catch on! which i don't see it catch on so far. so we are good.

Yeah, in the end, it's just semantics. I know the most hardcore advocates cringe at every news item aired on mainstream media. There's so much to learn and pick apart. Even I find it a minefield sometimes to comment... I remember being picked apart when I couldn't distinguish between Bitcoin and bitcoin!

The internal workings of a technology as "matured" as the Internet will always be misunderstood and misrepresented... but it doesn't matter. That's perhaps a price of mainstream adoption.

The way they call it doesn't change what Bitcoin is. The problem is that it brings confusion for the average user. Calling it a currency, a digital currency or a cryptocurrency tells them more what it's all about.

Popular use of the word "token", in this community, is/was related to "ETH ICO bubble things", not the creation of Satoshi known as Bitcoin.

BTC = Bit COIN not Bit Token
"...bitcoin closed Tuesday at $4,009 per token — twice its price in July..."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2017/09/21/bitcoin-buyers-libertarian-bent-drive-prices-records/594971001/
The above is only one of way too many recent examples in the media.

Are you OK with Bitcoin being called a token?

I dont care if ever they called it token or anything to the bitcoin as long as it does not affect its value.
Bitcoin name is always be special so its better if we stick with its original name. Bitcoin will always be bitcoin no matter what.

Doesn't make any sense to me  how they call bitcoin, a token or a coin. Anyway people brand something based on their value in their lives. If bitcoin doesn't make much impact in their lives, naturally they will devalue it by calling it even a crap. But to someone who's benefitted too much and their live's been changed because of bitcoin, it's understandable they call it much better than just a token.

It is absolutely fine with me somebody calls Bitcoin- token, however, by doing so they actually demonstrate the lack of their knowledge in the sphere, which discredits what they are talking about, no matter how logical it might seem. On the other hand, it's not an awful mistake of course, but sometimes it can be unpleasant

It can be called shit for all I care, I will buy, I will hold and I will keep using it. In some ways, it is a token. And part of bitcoins beauty is that people just cannot make up their minds on what it is.

It does not matter to me too, sometimes people tend to use words to easily explain something that is quite hard to explain technically.  As long as Bitcoin function as it is, the name or the aliases used for it does not matter.  It is even called the digital gold because of its capability to store value and we have no issue about that.  So I guess calling bitcoin "token" as form of comparison how bitcoin works is fine to me.

It's a valid question, and defining your terms is important. But it
doesn't hurt BTC in any way, no matter what you call it. Call it a
shoe, it's still $4k.

The risk you run into by using terms interchangeably is things
that aren't as good being called the same thing, giving it a false
veneer of utility or respectability. Like OneCoin, nothing but a Ponzi
scheme, but so many people were/are just interested into getting
into the new hottness without doing any research of their own,
making the lazy decision and ending up getting screwed. We've seen
these things come and go in this ecosystem, and you always get
the newcomers saying things like "I got mine, so I don't care if it's
a Ponzi", justifyingother people getting ripped off in favor of themselves.
But as we know about Ponzis, they are only sustainable for so long,
then everyone's fucked.

I kinda flew off on a tangent there. I guess my point is call BTC
whatever you want. It's not actually a token, nor is it actually a coin.
It's a method of bookkeeping. Know your basics before buying based
on a name or label.

The one with little bit of knowledge about cryptocurrency will never refer bitcoin as token, token means something created as sidechain over mainchain of another cryptocurrency. Like many tokens are created as sidechains of waves and ETH main chain.

Bitcoin should always be referred as king of crypto.

It does not really matter, but there is a difference between a "coin" and "token" tokens are usually useless.
But they are both cryptocurrencies.

a coin has more functions usually. Unless someone codes a really good token.

Is this really a big deal? It's not making sense. Just let it that and don't stressed out.

As long as we/they know what it were referring then we can called it whatever we want. For a newcomer that wil encountered that called for bitcoin, well a real seeker will find it's way to know what a thing is really all about so in the end they will realized the appropriate term.

Since I'm get used for coin, I'm prefer coin usage rather than token especially when my transaction report , all using coin word
Maybe I need some time to adapt token word especially that I know bitcoin over 3 years and I'm still learn it until now

That doesn't matter. Bitcoin or token or whatever they call it. It is still valuable digital asset. It's just a mistake from a reporter. They don't really know bitcoin that's why they say things like that. It's better to call bitcoin a token than call it a scam. I doesn't matter to me what people treat bitcoin. As long as it gives me profit. I'll be fine.  But the reporter should do a deeper study before publishing. They looked like  noobs

I am absolutely OK with it if bitcoin  is being called a token.  Because by name it can call by token but its price will not change by calling it as token. Lol

Yeah, I also think this person would be demonstrating lack of knowledge about it. In this thread only I have seen a lot of more appropriate names for it: currency, cryptocurrency, digital currency, asset, digital asset or the simplest one, coin.
