Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

WeedCoin mining will be unique. Instead of contributing hashes to the network, mining will be done by smoking hash!

Value will therefore be derived from the amount of marijuana expended.

More details will be released soon!

Is this a troll or a serious ANN? I hope it's serious because I'd been thinking of creating a Weedcoin myself but lack any coding knowledge. I was thinking of the same specs too! I love the 420 coins per block, etc. What will the 3 letter abbreviation be? I was thinking WCN, WED or WEC. Too bad WDC is already taken by Worldcoin.

You'd be surprised. All it takes is an hour at most of an ASIC pointed at it for the difficulty to reach a level that it can never realistically come down from.

Still working on it. Hopefully will have one set up before block 4200. I sent the source over to someone who said they were gonna set up a pool an hour ago. We'll see what happens.

There's also a bounty for the first pool that gets deployed. Smiley

Thanks for the pool.  I just don't have the CPU to throw at it apparently (which is sad when 100 server class cores are doing nothing in the lab so they're doing this right now) and they were just chugging away and getting nuthin'.

So do I get the bounty for first pool? Smiley
Sure

I'll be creating the bounty thread shortly.

All bounties will be paid out when we reach block 4200 (which should occur within 24-48 hours)

ps: my hashrates at http://wec.scryptmining.com will be off for a bit due to the super fast confirm times, shares are rolling off the live tables quicker than usual.  Will try and tweak things a bit soonish for a more realistic number.

Profit-Switching Pool w/ Vardiff -> http://hashco.ws  Optionally keep the alts we mine or auto-trade for BTC. In addition can be paid out in any of: 365, AC, BC,  BTC, C2, CINNI, COMM, FAC, HBN, MINT, PMC, QRK, RDD, WC, XBC

It bounces between 5-60% of actual hashrate showing on the stats, but who cares

Indeed, as we know, shares are what counts!  Should be marginally better now Smiley

Hazard, do I get a bounty if I make a spreadsheet for WEC/BTC trades? xD Considering i'm doing that atm
I could throw up a small bounty.

But there's really no need for it until block 4200 Wink

At the current pace block 4200 will be hit within like 3 hours Smiley

Myself? I think crappy coins like this are making Bitcoin look bad.

I honestly think these obvious joke-coins are no threat to anything. I think the ones who are actually 'serious' attempts are far more detrimental to the crypto coin movement.

FYI looks like it starts awarding 420 value blocks at 3000 not at 4200 like in the OP:

int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
   int64 nSubsidy = 420 * COIN;

        if(nHeight == 2)
    {
        nSubsidy = 420000 * COIN;
    }
       else if(nHeight < 3000)
    {
        nSubsidy = 1 * COIN;
    }

}

Blaze harder! We're almost there!

Unless the difficulty adjustment in 360 blocks is miniscule we're going to get hammered for blazing so hard as it is!
Probably. I had planned for difficulty to settle around 2 this time tomorrow.

We'll see if that pans out Smiley

Wouldn't .420 have been a better target?

I have to say thanks to you for this. I was really starting to take this whole crypto thing WAY to seriously. Not to say that crypto's aren't serious, because they are and I firmly believe that they are the future of money. I was just taking the whole business of trying to make them a bit too seriously. This is the first forked coin that I can honestly say I didn't hesitate for a minute to pull my miners off of mining something to try and make some profit on to put on something that I wanted to make just because it's fucking awesome. Does this mean that my hashes are not on something else, and possibly making it easier for anyone else to mine those? Yep. Do I give half a shit? Not at all. I'll have some WeedCoin and even if it's only good for nothing else than to have a couple of good laughs with with my friends, that's worth something to me.

Fucking righteous job Hazard. Nicely done!

Want this higher than 500?
Didn't really think of the block size, just picked a number.  Of course, you can always just cash out, which I'm sure the big guys are doing.

Edit: nevermind, will probably keep at 500 for now.

Have to say this was the best launch I have seen in a while.

Announced in advance.
Started on time.
Slow ramp up - initial size could be a bit greater than 1.
Fair amount of premined coins.

Think it was a fair launch too bad exchanges will probably not list many of the novelty coins released lately.

Nothing.

If the pool operator was especially evil he could launch a 51% attack. Such an attack is possible even with 30% hashrate, though. This scenario is unlikely to play out. Still, it's good to spread out hashrates.

If my computer wasn't melted I'd mine it. SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A SHA256 ALTCOIN Sad

+1 I'm ready for some more SHA256
Why? Itll just get raped by asics.

Pretty sure, people with Asics, are not going to stop their garrenteed income from BTC, to mine your coin dude, sorry.
You'd be surprised. All it takes is an hour at most of an ASIC pointed at it for the difficulty to reach a level that it can never realistically come down from.

If a coin ever got popular, it would happen Cheesy

That doesn't do anything to solve the problem. ASIC hoppers can't be stopped by just adjusting the retarget time.

Does he take WEC yet?

Someone should drive to the inner city and start trying to market this coin to the dealers.  Explain to them how it will lower their operating costs and increase revenue.

Should probably wear a bulletproof vest though when you go.

Charlie Kelly: I'm pleading the 5th.  The Attorney: I would advise you do that.  Charlie Kelly: I'll take that advice under cooperation, alright? Now, let's say you and I go toe-to-toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor?  The Attorney: You know, I don't think I'm going to do anything close to that and I can clearly see you know nothing about the law.

My only complaint is that the payouts started at block 3000 rather than the announced 4200.

That said, this is a "solve by inspection" problem for anyone with a brain so I'll forgive Hazard.  The source code was out there (on megafileshare or whatever... LOL... Github, anyone?) for everyone to view

yes I know that is there... but what I want to know is when a new coin comes out say and they dont provide this info... where is it written? Its in the code somewhere. Your one of the few that actually provided the info in the thread.

That said, this is a "solve by inspection" problem for anyone with a brain so I'll forgive Hazard.  The source code was out there (on megafileshare or whatever... LOL... Github, anyone?) for everyone to view

That's the only reason I got 4k wec in 20 min and quit mining :-)

New thing for me to learn today

How do you find out how something works like this? How the block pays out and stuff and how the retarget works?

Check post #145 (page 8 ) for the relevant snippet of code on payout.

yes I know that is there... but what I want to know is when a new coin comes out say and they dont provide this info... where is it written? Its in the code somewhere. Your one of the few that actually provided the info in the thread.

Actually I didn't (but thanks), fenican did.  But for future reference, it's in the main.cpp file if you haven't been able to find it yet.  I'm no programmer, honest,but I can usually follow the logic in someone else's code.

In this case, the BlockValue code starts at line 829.

Code:
int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
    int64 nSubsidy = 420 * COIN;

if(nHeight == 2)
    {
        nSubsidy = 420000 * COIN;
    }
else if(nHeight < 3000)
    {
        nSubsidy = 1 * COIN;
    }

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

The first thing in there is the "default" BlockValue (420).
Next is a "special" BlockValue when the Height is exactly 2 (420000).  Nice way to give a decent amount to the creator for bounty without pre-mining the thing to death.
finally is the "fair start" BlockValue (1) where the value is lower until 3000.

I'm not trying to talk down to you but explaining it for anyone who comes along later and isn't able to read it right away.

Also, kudos to Hazard for commenting his code!  Not everything is commented but a lot of it is.

Starting at line 845 is the code for Target adjustments.
Code:
static const int64 nTargetTimespan =  420 * 60 * 252; // WeedCoin: 420 block
static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 252 * 60; // WeedCoin: 4 min 20 sec
static const int64 nInterval = nTargetTimespan / nTargetSpacing;

The above sets the interval but I admit I'm not 100% sure why the need to include the first constant...

I believe that the maximum adjustment is also 400% (and not only on Testnet) but again, not positive.

Now that I'm looking at the code I think some changes are in order:

First suggestion -
The InvalidChainFound warning should be changed to "WARNING: Displayed transactions may not be correct!  Somebody needs to step away from the bong!"

why is it dead? difficulty-retarget in 150 blocks - at 4,200 so far i see - it is no mega-hashrate with 65 mhash  - but its just beginning

Yesterday, at launch, it was literally 10x that for several hours.  It was a fun diversion but unless the diff. falls dramatically, I for one don't have the hash power to throw at it to get anything worthwhile out of it.  A lot of others fell out when it adjusted to 6 yesterday as well.

nearmiss:

Great job with wec.scryptmining.com. It has the lowest reject rate I ever got from a pool.

Looking forward for your expertise to be applied to other coins routinely profitable above Litecoin (e.g. WDC, NVC).

Check your PM.

Thanks!  Was considering WDC, but figured it may have been a 'missed the boat' situation.  Perhaps I'll look into it again.   Never dug into NVC, the bit I heard suggested it may require some tweaks to the standard scrypt type deploy, but maybe will look into it if I have some spare time.

Hazard:

Any longterm plan to seriously promote the *use* of WEC on a marketplace, say, silkroad?

Of course, it is all about how much it is worth/convenient before people start to use it... but a serious attempt to get its value "peg" to a few tangible things might help to differentiate it from other alt-coins.

Thx.

Yes, I'm still mining, but it will be hard to clear the block so that the difficulty can drop. p00p. I have 6 7970s that I'll get up and running as soon as I put that PC together.

Anyways I am running your client. I have 16 peers connected at the time, but the block chain just wouldn't sync... The longer I am connected the more blocks it says are remaining for full sync! WTF  Undecided

I would mine it for a day or to to resolve a block, but the client seems to never sync with the network blockchain. I did restart the app, but once again stopped at 1.14% or 4179 out of 367169 blocks... That way even if I mine for a day or two to resolve that block I would never see my coins in the wallet... With 26 connections one would think it will be easier to sync, not harder....

You are all aware, that no exchange, will ever add a coin called WeedCoin, for obvious reasons, right? Even Cryptsy won't touch it...If your mining it for fun, cool, just don't expect it to ever have any value.
