Ethereum has already established itself as a significant platform, and its developers are already tackling the problem of scalability, which will potentially include a shift from proof of work to proof of stake.

This latter system is reportedly more cost-effective, and should be implemented in the near future.

Considering that businesses clearly need speed and flexibility within the cryptocurrency sphere, this obviously bodes well for Ethereum, and suggests that the altcoin will continue to grow in the future.

The blockchain is clearly developing in new and interesting ways on an almost daily basis, and if this means that Ethereum price prediction is hazardous, it also provides huge potential for the niche.

And as it stands right now, it really looks as if Ethereum and its associate fuel “Ether”have unlimited adoption potential in the decades ahead.

That’s because if Bitcoin’s appeal is as “digital gold,” then Ethereum’s appeal should be as the crypto revolution’s Microsoft 2.0.

Although the quantity of cryptocurrency being traded on a daily basis has increased massively, this will only be the start of what will become an increasingly important market.
That’s because you can build a seemingly limitless number of utilities atop of Ethereum.

To this end, civilization itself may be running atop Ethereum in a handful of years if the project can live up to is promise.

Suffice to say, its new positioning as a store of value is precarious, even if, judging by the huge uptick in bitcoin price, the store of value narrative is winning for now.

While there's no shortage of old and new believers to keep the party going, along with plenty of developers working to create better, forked versions of bitcoin, I’m betting my chips on a more flexible alternative.

Without a crystal ball, no one knows for sure right now. But what is clear is that however much of a “darkhorse” any cryptocurrency is at the moment ETH is one of the best positioned cryptos to one day overtake BTC.

I must say, that this idea is interesting, but not so fresh and new. This project does not look like a full replica of the previous project based on the same idea and maybe it will not repeat the error.

One crucial factor to consider is the politics of the cryptocurrency space. Bitcoin bills itself as a “currency.”

But Ethereum bills itself in a different way that should allow it to avoid this antagonistic dynamic altogether.

Even founder Vitalik Buterin has acknowledged scalability issues, illustrating just how serious this could become.
In other words? Ethereum may end up having its cake and eating it, too.

In this light, Ethereum may be a safer bet at present even if Bitcoin were to continue to explode unchallenged in the years ahead, ETH’s future seems significantly less cloudy from a regulatory point of view.

In a certain way, ether is loosely akin to traditional commodities like oil and gas because ETH has a fuel-like function on the Ethereum network.

In the future, then, ether should continue to appreciate in value as “digital oil” for the blooming Ethereum network that one day may revolutionize society from the ground up.

Ethereum is a development platform, never intended to change hands for goods and services, and this could also potentially count against it.
But in the short-term it is easy to make a bullish Ethereum price prediction. The established players in the cryptocurrency niche are likely to escalate in value, particularly due to the amount of media attention and column inches currently being devoted to Bitcoin.
The Proof of Work (PoW) protocol has been proven to work after years of successfully powering the Bitcoin network. Considerably more unproven? Proof of Stake (PoS).

This could be majorly decentralizing, in that people won’t need to go out and buy expensive, specialized mining gear to become validators, instead, they’ll just need to buy some ETH and be holders, which most of us are right now anyways.
