Really feel for you OP.
Realk talk though, if you treated your btc like real funds. If it was important to you, you should've honestly taken the nessasry steps to protect your btc. You did not take the nessasry steps to protect your btc as if it was valuable to you, resulting in this situation you are in now.

For everyone else, always use a hardware wallet, btc is not just a token or coin from a game on your phone or pc.

That's such a huge amount and I feel devastated for your loss. Even to just lose 1 BTC would be terrifying for me, I would probably go ballistic if I lost 95 BTC. Not having any experience in holding that huge an amount of bitcoin, I'm not sure how to advise on the manner of dividing and use of offline or paper wallets but it was probably wise for you to put it in separate wallets.

I hope that the proper authorities can help you recover the coins that you've lost and put them to justice. Whether the suspect is someone close to you or not, they should be prosecuted for such acts.

I bought my first few Bitcoins in 2012; eventually I got around 100 and managed to hold most of them until this point. Yesterday they were stolen from me. Shortly after I made a transaction, I left my PC with Electrum open, I believe there was a key logger waiting for me to type my password as when I returned an hour later, I saw my account had been emptied.

This happened shortly after receiving my hardware wallet (ledger), which I never got round to filling up. Obviously storing £350k(that hurts to type) on my daily computer was a moronic thing to do.

See the transaction here: https://blockchain.info/tx/220caec53bac39cc1a2d2692eecd385bca796fc1a839254ddd622b911344ae97

The Bitcoins were then split and are currently residing at these two addresses:
https://blockchain.info/address/18JCmLzKQoZydXspc6CPwovWVwYtUT7DCx
https://blockchain.info/address/16YiXuw4eaFVvpyhX7mYufwsj77LHrydUx
https://blockchain.info/address/18ZnbD5JQwdEJRwKrb34nXPu7J6pHN1CMR

I know I wont get these Bitcoins back but if anyone knows of a blockchain or malware analysis service or just want to give me advice, I would appreciate it.

This sucks man. It is not your fault at the end of the day. There are always going to be scammers who try to steal - and do figure out ways to steal from people. It does not mean that it is your fault.

HOWEVER, it is your responsibility to keep them safe. There is a big difference. Knowing the environment of Bitcoin currently, you should be more careful with how you store them. Paper wallets are the best because there is no way for a 3rd party to infiltrate you, or no easy way anyways.

ACCOUNT RECOVERED 4/27/2020. Account was previously hacked sometime in 2017. Posts between 12/31/2016 and 4/27/2020 are NOT LEGITIMATE.

Sorry for your losses. I hope you will re-earn them in future. My suggestions to prevent this in future would be:

1. Always have 2 factor authentication enabled on your exchange accounts. I am not sure if that works with online wallets, but if not then don't store high value in online wallets

2. Use password manager. With that you don't type passwords so they can't be captured with keystrokes. I cannot say for sure if they can be stolen from
clipboard or something. I have been using lastpass but there are others well

3. Don't share your online wallet/exchange balance with anyone. There will be high likely hood of social engineering attack. Read this https://medium.com/@CodyBrown/how-to-lose-8k-worth-of-bitcoin-in-15-minutes-with-verizon-and-coinbase-com-ba75fb8d0bac

@OP hopefully that was not all of your bitcoins and only 1 of your wallets. Its wise to split your coins not put more than 10btc into any wallet whether online or offline.
1. check who had/has access to your computer and sus them out. This is the most basic possibility and probably the most unlikely. Did you tell anyone how many coins you have IRL or online?
2. if its a hack, find and isolate the logger or malware, check its install date and determine the moment you were intruded upon. You may be able to help others if you can determine exactly where/when this occurred.

I'll keep an eye on the wallet with the 94btc lets see what comes of it.

3. send a msg to the most known mixers with a list of addresses (as they develop) to keep an eye on your coins. You never know, they just might give a fuck. Besides if they knowingly mix stolen funds, they then may have to answer that action if you want to pursue it.

4. yes, you almost certainly wont get your coins back, BUT there is a few things you can do and lets be honest, 95btc is worth pursuing and not giving up totally.

Don't lose your heart. I just hope that the thief will be caught and prosecuted. Since he had used a key-logger to get your password, a physical presence is needed. What you need to do is to file a police complaint first. And don't get depressed. Since the physical presence is needed, there is a chance that the thief can get identified from the cctv footage.

He could've just sent it to himself and signed the originating address. Then posted this story because he was bored and wanted attention.

It is our job to secure our bitcoin. Its a huge amount of money. And to hear that sad story. Those people who did that to you are evil. They just want easy money.

Sorry for the lost but This is a example of users who did not do some safety measures before doing transactions that amount is huge so maybe you can do a split account if you got that much bitcoin distribute to three or more different account to prevent this kind of lost. Lesson learned hope you can recover for that lost.

Oh man, that is a painful situation and I am sorry to hear you went thru that tremendous loss! Let this serve as a reminder to all of us to be vigilant on our security.

I think keyloggers are the most serious of threats when it comes to cryptocurrency. Anything a keylogger can portal thru (such as teamviewer, filesharing, emails, in the form of Trojans and worms) puts your computer and coins at serious risk.

Here is a handy article I found with recommendations for anti-keylogger and rootkit removal:

https://www.geckoandfly.com/17960/anti-keylogger-rootkit-detection-and-removal-for-undetectable-spyware-computer-surveillance-malware/

Unfortunately, in the world of crypto, we are most vulnerable as there is no way to recover funds in anonymous transactions.

I suggest to go for a weekend retreat or mini-vacation and remove yourself from the situation for a while. You will go thru the grieving process and it is important to practice self-care so you can make it thru this difficult time.
