Should you sell altcoins before the fork?

With the experience of Bitcoin Cash, lot of people are selling their altcoins to get more Bitcoin to have a higher share in Bitcoin Gold airdrop. But I personally don't sell my altcoins that I have hold them for long-term because of Bitcoin Gold.

Yea i agree. Don't wanna risk my altcoins in exchange of bitcoin gold, besides I can buy that when it dumps.
It's not a good idea to sell alts now then just buy back again, like it's really a bad move. I just don't touch my coins and wait the drama to be over.

Even though I sell all my altcoins, it still can't sum up to 1 bitcoin (which is the minimum requirement to avail free coin after the fork, as fas as I know). With that, I will only hold my alts, but I am also adding my alts since the price is so good to buy.

Before fork bitcoin will go down and alts will go deep much more. So, in fork time good choice is BTC or fiat.

Bitcoins value is just scraping close to the magic $5000
threshold while a lot of alts are down.

I have traded some alts which seem dormant into hitcoin,
I can buy them back when i get my Gold

Fork certainly impacts valuation. but good coins always bounce back after fork.
it is time for them who have good experience in the trading. if you do not have good experience you should not try it.
try good projects in new icos flooding now a days.

It's your opinion. Getting an equal amount of a altcoin as your bitcoin holding can be beneficial in both way for holding two coins.
This fork is decreasing the value of altcoins which indeed would be best time to buy cheap alts.

So, basically it depends on the success of the forked coin. Is the forked coin better than alts you are holding?
In my opinion this new forked coin would have no future.

Is it? I think I heard that there is no minimum required amount of bitcoin to get bitcoin gold. But I'm not sure though.

exactly that was a wrong decision making of selling all altcoin then go for another to start again why would you do that if your in the middle of your story on the altcoin and making some good profit.

If you didn't sell alts recently on the highs just hodl them through the hardfork. You will take a lot of losses if you dump them now.

I think hedging against uncertainty is not such a bad thing.actually it a good strategy. Remember the bloodbath we experience in the days leading to august 1st?so I don't think it's naive not to expect something of a similar nature heading to November 1st.it has nothing to do with faith in r project.its just common sence

Selling before an hardfork is typically the thing that you shouldn't do...
Yes the altcoins value will decrease before fork, because everybody's afraid to loose their money.
But a good project remains a good project and it won't affect it in the middle/long term.

But worse than that, those more and more common hardfork, are just there to destroy little project that try to rise...
Those hardforks are only there to speculate and crush the competition. Let's be honest, changing from 1Mo to 2Mo a block capacity is useless, when you know the revolution that is coming. It's not a 2Mo block that will handle Billions of people using blockchain in some decades.
Look at ethereum, they do hardfork without spliting money, because they know how to do it, and they don't want to destroy de market value.

I think it is always better to hold on to your coins if you really believe in it and the people behind it. With BTC rising the ALT's are bleeding and this is normal. It has happened in the past and it seems to be happening now. At this point of time I would rather pick some good projects and stick around with it than sell everything like weak hands and regret later. Study the details about the coin and take call.
