Everyday I come on here and read a sad story about someone getting hacked and losing their Bitcoin / Ethereum.  I hate reading them but its like a car accident on the side of the road, you can't help but look.  Once you read the story it's clear that it could have been avoid had the user used a hardware wallet.  I dont have alot of Bitcoin or Ethereum but I recently purchased my own hardware wallet to keep them secure, I strongly suggest others in my situation (less than 1BTC total invested) to go out and buy a hardware wallet.  Right now.

Why do small fries need a hardware wallet?
We are the most vulnerable because we are less experienced.  Most of us haven't experienced losing coins yet, either directly or through a friend.  We probably download shit we shouldn't, left our private keys in some email we sent (I haven't done this but I could see myself doing something this stupid when I first started) and probably leave our desktop wallets open a bit too long.  The small fries are vulnerable so we need to protect our investments.

What is a hardware wallet
Its a devise that essentially stores your private key on it so you can't be keylogged and requires you input a password onto it, not your computer, before unlocking the wallet AND withdrawing any coins.  Its safe, its secure and only the person with possession of the hardware wallet can withdraw funds (at least I've been told no one has legitimately hacked a hardware wallet without possession of it).  It's easy to use. When you use a Ledger Nano S and activate it, the devise presents you with a private passphrase that does not show up on your computer.  You write down the pass phrases, by hand (do not type it out, take a photograph, or anyhing of the like), and if you lose or break your hardware wallet you can buy another and gain access to it with the private passphrases.  If you are really concerned about the passphrase being lost, buy a fireproof, waterproof safe and ziplock your private passphrase (waterproof safes are known to trap condensation which gets things wet - wet paper with pen = lost writing) so its airtight and lock it up.  Its really secure so long as you keep the pass phrase safe.

KeepKey - https://www.amazon.com/KeepKey-Simple-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B0143M2A5S/
Trezor - https://www.amazon.com/Satoshi-Labs-bitcoin-wallet-white/dp/B00P5HU80A/

I have all my valuable crypto, that's currently supported, on my Ledger.  My Bitcoin, Ethereum and you can bet your ass once Deep Onion is supported it will be safely secured on there too.  The Ledger is easy to use and the instructions are crystal clear.  At less than $80, there is no reason not to protect your investment.  Even if you only have $250 in BTC/ETH, you will buy more so you might as well buy one of these now.

I don't want to read another story about someone getting robbed of their Bitcoin and I want our community to flourish.  Secure your coins!

In the future, Bitcoin will grow, so now a lot of companies, cafes, restaurants, online stores accept this currency, in the future they will become even more and Bitcoin can be used everywhere.

Really sound advise, I keep mine in a Trezor, load it to an exchange to trade, withdraw it back to the trezor as soon as i'm finished. People must take more care, for people forget that bitcoin is real money (not just monopoly money) and should be treated as such, after all you wouldn't leave your wallet or keys lying around for some light fingered individual to steal-so why your bitcoin etc?

I think that a hardware wallet is a good way to keep coins because it is realiable and i think that it is better to use it than any other one. to my mind, it is better to use a hard wallet and be sure you have 100% guarantee

I have long been thinking about what to get such a wallet. After all, money will be really in a safe place. Can't say it now. Because I often hear news about the hacking of exchangers, wallets ...

Personally, I'm not comfortable with hardware wallets. Call me paranoid, but my cold storage is on air-gapped PC. Transactions signed on cold wallet and pushed from a machine that connects to the internet. I don't really know the level of competency of these manufacturers. And I also prefer the idea of using generalized hardware vs. specialized cryptocurrency wallet hardware because the latter puts a target on your back for theft. Again -- yes, I am paranoid. Better safe than sorry, though.

Also, people should avoid third party sellers, Amazon, etc. when buying hardware wallets. There are ways to see if your device has been tampered with, but it's safe to assume most noobs won't bother to look. Buy only directly from the manufacturer if you want to use hardware wallets.

Agree 100%, buy from a reputable manufacturer directly if you can. And get your coins off the exchanges!!

I dont agree with OP that just by buying Hardware Wallet you are not safe, You have to take security measures to get safe from all hacking. That i am doing by using my wallet on offline computer separately for my wallets. So this way i am safe from hacking as i use regular computer for my regular tasks so even if it got affected i am safe as their is no wallet to hack it. So this type of security measures you have to take to be safe.

Even with Hardware wallet you have to be using safely and not using on infected computer.

Whatever means to help secure your coins, go for it. Better to be safe than sorry. But of course, hardware wallets can’t prevent you from all risks. But a choice of a trusted manufacturer with a good reputation can help protect your wallet from much more vulnerabilities comparing to software wallets.

A hardware wallet is a good device, but I don't recommend using it alone. The solution is to use multiple wallets.

I agree that we should have a hardware wallet to keep bitcoin and other coins in a secure wallet, so there is no chance of being robbed. And no matter how much bitcoin and coins you have, it is better to prevent from the worst situations, so we don't have to afraid and worry about the hacking or stolen. I am interested in buying ledger s nano as I see that wallet support many coins and I think it's worth to buy and the price itself is not too high depends on the total of our assets.

I agree with every word. Hardware wallets have more secure software. Smartphones and personal computers are dozens of times more dangerous and hackers can hack them

people always lose money because of their own carelessness not because of hackers,... and in that case usage of hardware wallets may not even save their asses.
for example you can easily lose the recovery phrase aka the seed to your hardware wallet and lose your money with it.
