that's not so much the fault of asics its the fault of BTC for being susceptible to it.  BTC profitability ran too high.  It was only natural for large investors to hunt down a technology that would disrupt the market.  next gen crypto currencies need to maintain price stability.  It would provide a small margin for miners, allow for miner growth, but be immune to disruptions like ASICs.

+1 ASIC uses much less energy and are relatively easy to use and set up. Better for the environment and more accessible to novices.

More accessible in the technical sense, not more accessible from a financial sense.  If a LTC ASIC costs as much as a BTC ASIC (it has every reason to cost MORE considering the added hardware needed to deal with Scrypt), then there is no way an average joe will plonk down that cash.  LTC still has a long way to go in terms of price and usability for people to start investing in ASICs.

This. The energy problems will go away only if ASIC becomes cheap as current gpu offerings and everyone jump onto the train.. but we all know that ain't gonna happen soon.
