There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Can you mine this on a VPS? If so, what hashing speeds should I expect? I have in mind those cheap VPS hostings, not the expensive ones.

I always wanted to try a VPS, but didn't really have any good reason for having it, so I started to wonder that maybe I can mine Soldo on it.

This is the beauty of CryptoNote coins. The privacy is just on a whole new level compared to all the other codebases. You could potentially use your view key to just view the balance, but then why would you want to?

As all you know, Cryptonight resistance against ASIC was broken, I know that soldo have his own algo, but what if this ASIC menace happens on the soldo network ? just let it be or devs will change to a new algo ?

1900x ~2.5kHs, 1950x ~4.3kHs....so 1900x it's almost 1800x because they have the same cache and physical cores

If you were able to check balances in the block explorer, experts could also run statistical analyses and find out which addresses might be connected or interact with each other. Not so nice from a privacy perspective!

They are talking about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3103990.0. I don't see much skepticisim in the thread, and in fact it looks like several CryptoNite-based coins are planning hardforks to introduce stronger ASIC resistance. I in no way, shape, or form pretend to be knowledgeable on this topic beyond what is in the thread, but based on what I see there (and over on Reddit) I don't think dismissing this without any thought at all is not the best face to present...
