Nothing is predictable in the crypto market because I never expect that ETH will reach to 300$ but it has surpassed the value. May be it cannot able to beat the Bitcoin but it will secure significant value in the market.

Ethereum overtake Bitcoin ?
it will never can be because no matter what Bitcoin itself is a symbol for the cryptocurrency,
if you ask people out there about cryptocurrency or digital currency they will tell you about Bitcoin not Ethereum.
in other word Ethereum will never can overtake Bitcoin place,
a new users will choose Bitcoin as an investment because they're only know about it,
after a few months they reliaze a new thing such as ETH,XRP and others.
slowly they're investing their money into it too,but another Bitcoin users come in and replace an old one.
so Eth will not overtake Bitcoin

Over the past few years, Bitcoin has become the hallmark of crypto currencies, being the first popular currency as well as the most popular, and has attracted many to invest. Bitcoin has made quite a few millionaires, and has attracted the watchful eye of governments and rich entrepreneurs alike.

As bitcoin rose in value, it spurred the creation of many other cryptocurrencies, including litecoin, Dash and ZCash. However, among the thousands of alternative coins, or altcoins, none have gained as much traction as a new competitor who entered the market early 2015: Ethereum. Similar to other currencies in the sense it was probably inspired by Bitcoin, Ethereum, provides a key additional function that many other currencies lack: uses outside of a peer to peer transaction base.

But does Ethereum really have the potential to overtake Bitcoin?

Nope. We honestly do not need dApps or smart contracts. All we need right now is a functional cryptocurrency with a strong community support and lots of recognition worldwide. I don't think that it is disputed that bitcoin is the #1 crypto.

And it'll remain that way, unless Ethereum steps up their game big time. As the founder said, ETH isn't even a currency.

Bitcoin has the most potential out of every single altcoin in my opinion.

Ethereum is not only an altcoin but an ecosystem so it's still very potential
But I think it will never overtake Bitcoin cause bitcoin is Bitcoin but other cryptocurrencies are just called altcoins

There is a possibility of this happening, but I don't believe it will be quite soon.

It will take at least 1-2 years from now.

It's unlikely, at least for the foreseeable future - unless BTC keeps forking every few months and undermines trust.

I’m more than negative about this happening honestly. This is not only true for ethereum but all coins. I’m very confident that bitcoin will always top other coins in value but that doesn’t make ethereum any less valuable of course.

So many coins have come and gone that claimed to be superior thatn Etherium or even claimed that they would overtake the market cap or value in USD that bitcoin has. Most of them do not even exist today. So no, although eth is popular and all, but it would never be able to take over bitcoin.

That will a bit difficult caused by the ethereum is not match with the bitcoin adoption. a lot of people are familiar with the bitcoin itself and the fact that the price of bitcoin was really high  and about the comparable of the marketcapitalization and it looks impossible in my opinion, but the result will depend on the growth of the public adoption for the every coin itself.

There's a chance but it's too small. Overtaking Bitcoin will require hundreds of thousands of investors meaning, if Bitcoin's value is dropping then some investors were looking upon to some alternative coins that has potential of Bitcoin's success. I think not only Ethereum has the potential on overtaking Bitcoin, some Altcoins do as well. having a good developers and support will make an altcoin rise their values.

You're right in some point but when people started to realize that not only Bitcoin can give them high investment profits but also other Altcoin does, they need to be educated that there are some promising altcoins that is worth more investments than Bitcoin. Ethereum perhaps the one who can overtake Bitcoin and so does altcoins.

This subject of the debate is stupid and desperate by the Ethorium bagholders, where and when this question is asking. To answer this question, no.

Rock is more abundance and useful than gold but don't mean rock overtake gold in price anytime.

Yes, ethereum most definitely can. If they manage to scale faster and better, it might end up being the most used coin, and that would drive the price up to the point where it would become the #1 cryptocurrency in terms of market cap.

Bitcoin has the brand advantage, most of the "average joes" that have heard of it have yet to understand of even know that Ethereum exist... But it can't rely solely on this fact for the upcoming 5-10 years.

Thats right possiblility is inevitable.
Bitcoin has found its own way to grow but ethereum has been doing that too in its own way in the alternate cryptocurrencies.
But time will take to be long, as it was not the first like bitcoin. I agree with 10 years but there is also possibility that ethereum wont be able to surpass bitcoin.
Again possibilities is many but chances varies.
