Over the past few years, Bitcoin has become the hallmark of crypto currencies, being the first popular currency as well as the most popular, and has attracted many to invest. Bitcoin has made quite a few millionaires, and has attracted the watchful eye of governments and rich entrepreneurs alike.

As bitcoin rose in value, it spurred the creation of many other cryptocurrencies, including litecoin, Dash and ZCash. However, among the thousands of alternative coins, or altcoins, none have gained as much traction as a new competitor who entered the market early 2015: Ethereum. Similar to other currencies in the sense it was probably inspired by Bitcoin, Ethereum, provides a key additional function that many other currencies lack: uses outside of a peer to peer transaction base.

But does Ethereum really have the potential to overtake Bitcoin?

Yes, ethereum most definitely can. If they manage to scale faster and better, it might end up being the most used coin, and that would drive the price up to the point where it would become the #1 cryptocurrency in terms of market cap.

Bitcoin has the brand advantage, most of the "average joes" that have heard of it have yet to understand of even know that Ethereum exist... But it can't rely solely on this fact for the upcoming 5-10 years.

I think the price of ETH will not be higher than BTC, because BTC is the core of all crypto, without exception ETH compete with other Altcoin, maybe ETH price will be higher than other Altcoin price. So do not ever expect the ETH price to exceed the BTC price as it will not be possible.

There is a possibility but look at how many hacks and mistakes there have been. With so many updates and changes in ethereum, the security is compromised. My bet is more on Bitcoin staying on top but Eth will be at top 10.

I think it's  a big no. Since bitcoin is the first crypto currency, people who knew and use it settle on that cryptocurrency and didn't want to use altcoins. Not all of us wanted to invest in crypto, some just use in for convenience. Ethereum really are a great alternative coin that has been created but it will and always will remain in the shadow of bitcoin. That's what i thought.

There is nothing impossible in world of cryptocurrency and no one surely know what alt would prevail or die tomorrow due to price volatility. The might be chance that someday eth would overtake btc but I dont see it happen in near  future.

It possible happen to ethereum overtake the bitcoin we don't know what is possible happen in the next day about bitcoin. But the speculation is still there I think this altcoin second place with bitcoin but not totally overtake. Bitcoin now is very popular many stablishment and companies using bitcoin across the countries. So there's no reason bitcoin behind that ethereum, both of them are good no need to choose much better you them all.

Nobody can have the exact answer here, but should Bitcoin take huge blows from the media and then big entities (life governments) that control a massive amount of people, then Ethereum might take over. But in my opinion this is unlikely to happen, not now, not ever. But then this is just my 2 cents worth of opinion.

Bitcoin will still the one on top, and I think ethereum will overtake bitcoin. It will not happen for now or in the upcoming days,months that it will overtake. Still bitcoin is the highest price than other cryptocurrency.
