I quite like the change, Think about this in a few years when everyone has thousands of posts, The difference of a few hundred is not going to matter, This also stops people from posting random rubbish just to increase their post count, This needs to be done over time to gain any activity.

The only problem I can see is what if we go away hiking for a few months, All our "credits" will have run out, Effectively making a long term service appear like a new account?

EDIT - Also I know people here who do not post regally and are very trustworthy and upstanding people, I also know people with thousands of posts who just don't make any sense or contribute to this community, If there is no way to link quality of posts, any form of moderation in activity/presentation of user accounts is null and void in my opinion.

Activity doesn't decrease unless posts are deleted. It's a measure of total activity, not recent activity.

This is similar to the TF2 drop rate cap. I like this change.

Thanks theymos, i'm able to post here now. Looks like you forgot to update "member" group's permissions.

Ps: I think it's a good system, At least now people will stop posting spam and relaying on post count to check someone's honesty/legitness and give more focus on trust ratings.

It's interesting enough
Double demotion
But put this together with the trust system and add activity and that makes it a lot harder to pull a scam
Well lets see how it works
But I do want to still be able to see my post count if possible just so I sort of know where I'm at without looking at my profile Smiley
Second question if activity = min(time * 14, posts)
Does that mean having 400-500 posts but not the time == incremental increases in activity till it catches up

Well my question is more related to the ad banners don't think they want to check everyone's post count
But maybe they will transition to activity

It doesn't matter. There should still be a total post count stat next to your avatar. I don't click every single persons profile when I read their name.

So you ignore people it their post count is not high enough?  Seems rather short sighted.

I didn't get the formula: if you post only once per week your activity is lower compared to posting once per day? How is the number of posts included in the activity, apart from having to post at least once every two weeks to be considered active?

I appreciate (positive or negative) feedback from my peers on posts I make.

That's called an answer. Like stringing together words to provide positive or negative feedback on the posts you make.

This is an example.

Obviously it will reduce the number of garbage posts but it will also decrease some of the give and take; like threads that update newbies on mining options, or discuss interesting articles, or speculate on the value of bitcoin. I think it's going to get awfully quiet around here...

What? You think people merely post in those threads to get their postcount up?

If it's only about numbers going up I can sell these people a cute little app that sits in the corner of their screen slowly counting up and they can stare and smile at it all day. Only 1 BTC in this introductory week.

Maybe I'll add a new group between Jr. Member and Full member. What should it be called?
