It’s important to understand that there are two categories of coins: Cryptocurrencies (e.g. Bitcoin, Monero, ZCash, Dash, etc) and Tokens (e.g. Ethereum, Filecoin, Storj, Blockstack, etc).
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are competing against existing money (and gold) to replace them with a truly digital currency

Ethereum is a token What Bitcoin does for money, Ethereum does for everything else.
Ethereum allows you to write Smart Contracts: basically any digital agreement where you can say “if this” happens, “then something else happens.”

if you have a great fund and you are the manager, you definitely need to have some both of them. the acceleration of the bitcoin is still not fully understood. we could not reach all the prices came and passed. the current target is 10 thousand dollars. Every time Bitcoin is pumping Ξ gets pumped with it, at some point you could see how their marketcaps were competing with each other but after Bitcoin reached $4500 it was impossible for Ξ to keep up. since Bitcoin will never have smart contracts implemented on it's blockchain, Ξ will always remain the smart coin. both of them are the safest and smartest investments in all crypto currencies.

Why hard? You can still buy less than, say, 1 BTC.

I'd say it's always good when you differentiate risks. It's hard to give a more exact answer that would also be brief because it's hard to say even what sum and term you are speaking about. If you elaborate on that, it would get easier to understand say more precisely.

Exactly. So many people get scared about investing in bitcoin just because its value is so high currently, but they forget that this is not its ceiling and that it still has a long way to go. Personally, I purchase 0.1 bitcoin almost every month and I HODL it which adds up pretty quickly over the course of time. Ethereum is also a great investment, but I feel that bitcoin would provide higher returns in the long run.

For use, this is an apples to oranges comparison. Ethereum and Bitcoin are two different beasts, all together.

Both are actually good but the better to use for long term and short term investment is Bitcoin. Bitcoin price from time to time reach highest price and the possibility of the price will still rise in the future. That's what people have to keep holding Bitcoin for a long time in order to get bigger profits.

i prefer both,bitcoin is the dominant coins on all crypto currencies no other coins can put him down thats very obvious but ethereum has a big potential and the most promising alts after bitcoin.so i better choose both to invest and to hold .

Ethereum is the only coin that I would use for smart contracts. Until Bitcoin gets that update there will be more usage with Bitcoin compared to Ethereum because nobody really cares for smart contracts.

Actually bitcoin is more useful than ethereum, as could be used for payment in online transactions. But eventually, they are both playing great in the market and they both potentially profitable either for long term or short term investment. And we really don't need to compared each other because they have different purpose and usage in the world of crypto currencies.

Depend on your budget, if you can afford to invest ethereum then invest into it, this is also a good coin to buy today, you can also buy bitcoin to invest but maybe you cannot buy the whole 1 btc cause it is now very expensive to buy it is cost $8k that is very expensive to invest but you can start to invest half if you can, try to buy 0.5 btc, or maybe 0.3 btc as what I've said depend on your budget. Both coin is the best buy today.

Both cryptocoins possess great potentials and are meant for different purposes. If you wanted to know which is the better choice for investments, I would say bitcoin. Bitcoin's value increases rapidly and is more volatile than ethereum. The rise of ethereum's value is slow however this is a good investment if you have a lower budget and if you want a long term investment.

Right now, if you want to INVEST, then you may split your investment abd invest in both. Invest like 20-30% more in bitcoin and a little less in ethereum. The reason behind investing more in bitcoin is it's reliable and just trustworthy. Whereas eth might not be as good as bitcoin but it is not bad also. It's just that BITCOIN har earned the trust of the people and many have made huge profits, so it can do the same for others. Ethereum might rise, that's why investing in it is a good option.
But if you're talking about mining these, check whether you can afford it or not. Like do you get profits. After paying the electricity bills that your supercomputer uses, and if you are satisfied with the mined coins. GOOD! continue it. And ALL THE BEST.

Using ethereum can be much more convinient then bitcoin, it faster in transactions, less fee, and cheaper than bitcoin, i also use ethereum in many ico projects because it is so popular on the cryptocurrency.

Both are good for investing. Bitcoin has reached a good value that is 8000$ so it would be difficult to get high amounts of profits in bitcoin whereas Ethereum has just started and has a very good potential to reach heights like that of Bitcoin. So Ethereum can be very profitable to invest in and the price of Ethereum is quite low too. Now everything depends on how do you take both Ethereum and Bitcoin into consideration after this. Ethereum can be more profitable in long-term than investing in Bitcoin ( MY OPINION).

I'd invest in Bitcoin more than I would invest in Ethereum because the price of Bitcoin moves much faster than Ethereum.

Bitcoin is supported by a large team. But its technology is not flawless. What can I say, even if the Bitcoin Cash command says: "The real bitcoin is us." The closest rival bitcoin is the etherium. In my opinion, its technology is better and the etherium itself will grow in price. Who knows, maybe the best Crypto currency has not been invented yet ...
