Hello everyone
kind of new here to mining, did a bit of research on my own and learned from everyones experience. Im trying to build a 6 GPU rig using AMD CPU Ryzen 7 1700X @ 4.00GHz as my processor and 6 GPU cards (either GTX 1070, or  AMD RX 470 4GB), what kind of motherboard and power supply you recommend?

thanks

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I recommend to use the motherboard ASRock. The best ratio quality/price. For example, Fatal1ty Gaming AB350 K4 and above.
PSU on your choice.

It is not likely that you will reach 4 GHz.
Maybe 3.7 GHz with normal cooling.

Also remember that there is a big increase of power consumption and heat when overclocking.
I have not overclocked mine because I like it Power effecient and long lasting.

man, some of you just know too much. i learned the most just from reading here than googling. how ever i have purchased these items so far:

 * 1 X Nitro+ RX 480 8GB GPU ( as my Gpu card)
 * 1 X AMD RYZEN 7 1800X 8-Core 3.6 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Socket AM4 95W YD180XBCAEWOF Desktop Processor

 Now Looking for the Best Motherboard, and power supply that can support 6 GPUs .
so far as of motherboard goes i have found those:

  * ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 AM4 (2 PCIe 3.0 x16, 4 PCIe 2.0 x1)

  * MSI B350M Gaming PRO AM4 AMD (1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x1)

  * ASRock X370 Killer SLI/ac AM4 (2 PCIe 3.0 x16, 4 PCIe 2.0 x1, 1 M.2 (Key E))

  * ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero AM4 AMD X370 (((EXPENSIVE)))

  * Gigabyte GA-7PESH3

I haven't gotten that far yet to find out, whether i gotta get motherboards with 6 X PCIe 3.0 x16 for faster speed since the RX 480 connects Via PCIe 3.0 x16 or any motherboard is fine?

AFAIK PCIe 2.0 is sufficient for mining, as speed of the interface does not apply for mining related tasks, as they just do calculations and submit hashes(low bw activity). If you want to also game on it then PCIe 3.0 matters as there is massive amounts of data transferred b/w the GPU, the board, proc etc.
Just so you know PCIe 3.0 cards are backward compatible with PCIe 2.0 and 1.0
Get a B350 with the most PCIe slots, as X370's are one tier up and are more of an enthusiast oriented board for overclocking and running SLI.
Start with 1 card and see. Also as previously advised get 8gb cards, they are future proof and will have better resale value.
The R7's do well at cryptonight/lite algos. Throw in the GPU to up you kh/s or Mh/s or sols.
Finally do get smos or ethOS something like that when you do scale up, and try to stay away from risers.

If you are mining with GPU only then it does not affect mining speed if you overclock CPU or motherboard (I guess you mean memory speed). But there are some CPU mining coins that can be affected. For instance intense coin, Aeon, Verium and Credits (CRDS).

I am mining with both CPU and GPU at the same time. I just leave one core unloaded with CPU mining to get enough speed for GPU mining and other tasks.

thanks for your knowledgeable answer. finally made a decision and bought those items:

 * Ryzen 7 1800X               (CPU)
 *1650 W power Supply      (90+ Gold)
 *MSI X370                        (Motherboard)
 *Samsung 850 Evo            (250 GB HD)
 *AMD Heat Sink                (CPU FAN)
 *G.SKILL Aegis 8GB 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000
 * Nitro+ RX480 8GB          (GPU)
 * PCIe 16X to 1X conversion kit (6 PIN)

now waiting to put them all together, but unfortunately NICEHASH's website is down. So i guess i will be using CPU & GPU to mine, but i have no idea what coin to mine or can i even mine actual bitcoin since i only have a CPU & GPU rig

thanks

You don't really need it if you only have one graphics card. I assume that's a riser and they're used when you need to connect multiple GPUs to a single motherboard. With just one GPU I'd simply install it straight into the board.

As for what to mine with them, start with ETN. Both your CPU and GPU are good for cryptonight algo. You'll need to learn a lot though, it's not plug&play, especially with the GPU where you'll want to edit the card's BIOS to get the most out of it.

Biostar TB350 has 6 PCIE slots although only one is full length. I think they are making a micro atx AM4 slot mining board now too. I don't know of any other AMD mining specific motherboards on the market.

We have 5 of the TB350s and they have been pretty good the past 6-8 months.

Hey there,

I am currently running on the biostar tb350-btc and cannot get 6 cards stable. I am only able to get 4 cards stable and the last 2 cards crash the system when they are plugged in. I can see them in safe mode but when i boot normally to windows i get artifacts. currently running 6 radeon rx vega 64's on an amd ryzen 1700 with 2x1000 psu. any suggestions?

What kind of artifacts? Most frequent problems with multi-gpu rigs are either when the cards just don't get properly recognized by the OS (device manager shows them with the exclamation mark, or doesn't show them at all), or they are recognized, but crash when you start mining with them. Graphic artifacts on the screen usually indicate some sort of hardware problem — either the card(s) is faulty, or it isn't supplied with what it needs to run correctly (too much overclocking/undervolting, problems with power supply etc). Though it's Vega cards in your case, so anything is possible with those..

When i turn off the system and plug in the 5th card itself and boot up the OS as its on the loading screen for the profile it locks up and bootloops until it brings me into the diagnostics/advanced settings/safemode screen. im starting to think its the motherboard itself. I may throw in the towel on this MB and get a different one.
