Primecoin now supports pooled mining! If you sign up please use my referral link below. I take no responsibility for your results or the security of this arrangement! Usually I would suggest not using root for anything, but hey, time's a wastin'! 1) Go to DigitalOcean and sign up for an account. FYI, signing up for multiple accounts using the same info is against their terms of service. If you do this you may have your account removed by DigitalOcean. 2) Create an Ubuntu 13.10 x64 droplet with the size you want. 3) You will be emailed an IP address and password. SSH into your new VM. 4) Enter this beast into the console, replacing the primecoin address with your own wallet address and the genproclimit with the number of CPUs you're paying for: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y screen yasm git make g++ build-essential libminiupnpc-dev libboost-all-dev libdb++-dev libgmp-dev libssl-dev dos2unix; git clone https://github.com/thbaumbach/primecoin; cd ~/primecoin/src; make -f makefile.unix; screen ./primeminer -poolip=54.200.248.75 -poolport=1337 -pooluser=Acrenf7WMZ3yFc7xkdbF8rGuuLw36Bkknr -poolpassword=PASSWORD -genproclimit=1What's happening here is that we get all the packages needed for building, we download the source for the miner and make the binary executable. Once it's running we connect to the beeeeer pool. You can disconnect from screen without stopping mining by pressing ctrl-a; then d. To reconnect to the miner use `screen -d`. Once you've started finding shares head over to (after replacing your XPM address): http://beeeeer.org/user/Acrenf7WMZ3yFc7xkdbF8rGuuLw36BkknrThe current payout threshold is 3.01 XPM. BONUS POINTS: Set it up as a service that starts at boot and clone the droplet. NOTE: If you get this error, g++: internal compiler error: Killed (program cc1plus) Please submit a full bug report, with preprocessed source if appropriate. See <file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-4.8/README.Bugs> for instructions. make: *** [obj/db.o] Error 4 It's because you're on a small droplet (like me). So add swap space, run make, and start the miner! sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=64M count=16; sudo mkswap /swapfile; sudo swapon /swapfile; make -f makefile.unix; screen ./primeminer -poolip=54.200.248.75 -poolport=1337 -pooluser=Acrenf7WMZ3yFc7xkdbF8rGuuLw36Bkknr -poolpassword=PASSWORD -genproclimit=8Stickers!Got my DigitalOcean stickers today! You can request your own by emailing barry@digitalocean.com . What others VPS can you use? And how do you optimize solo mining to get the maximum ROI, could you please share the settings?

I suppose most of these directions apply to any VPS with a Debian or Ubuntu image.
As far as optimizing solo mining... could you be more specific? The point of pooled mining is to reduce variance, so for many, solo mining is long bet.

Sorry to bother you again. I have one more question:
If I want to make some changes like value of 'genproclimit=1' how can I do it?

Is there a better service and a more affordable one that could give you a better ROI?

It's this part of the command, just change it to what you want to use. screen ./primeminer -poolip=54.200.248.75 -poolport=1337 -pooluser=Acrenf7WMZ3yFc7xkdbF8rGuuLw36Bkknr -poolpassword=PASSWORD -genproclimit=1

well hi guys i have paid 5$ for a small droplet and i followed this intructions: 1: sudo apt-get update 2: sudo apt-get install bzip2 git git-core subversion checkinstall build-essential libssl-dev libboost-all-dev libdb5.1-dev libdb5.1++-dev libgtk2.0-dev 3: apt-get install libgmp3-dev 4: dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=64M count=16 5: mkswap /swapfile 6: swapon /swapfile 7: wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/primecoin-hp/0.1.1-hp4/primecoin-0.1.1-hp4.tar.bz28: tar jxvf primecoin-0.1.1-hp4.tar.bz2 9: cd primecoin-0.1.1-hp4 10: cd src 11: make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=- 12: cd .. (until back in root) 13: mkdir ~/.primecoin echo "rpcuser= i put one rpcpassword= the pass u want gen=1" > ~/.primecoin/primecoin.conf 14: cd yourself like before back to the src folder inside the primecoin directory, again, this is "cd primecoin-0.1.1-hp4" "cd src" 15: ./primecoind --daemon i changed the rpcuser and rpcpassword, but the thing it´s that when i saw the graph to see the cpu usage i saw this: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/811/l0f2.pngand when i typed ./primecoin getmininginfo to see how many primespersecond i was obtaining i got this: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/855/c41f.pngDid they bottleneck the cpus for not mining or is it something wrong in the instructions?

Wait for it to catch up with the network!
On another note: I don't find mining on DO is profitable comparing to AWS EC2 and Linode with the latest Primecoind HP

Noob question here: Im following the instructions on this article: http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2013/12/04/primecoin-cloud-mining-using-digital-ocean-complete-guide/And I get stuck at the command: make -f makefile.unix It tells me: "-bash: make: command not found" All the instructions prior to this worked swimmingly. What should I do? Is there an alternative to "make" to start the compiling ? UPDATE: Problem solved: If "make" is not yet installed, enter the following command: apt-get update && apt-get install make

I'd reccomend against investing in cpu mining hardware at this point in time...gpu miners are out for xpm, and soon will be open sourced and massively deployed.
So, buy some xpm if you want cause price will soon increase as we get rid of the botnets at last!

I second that. I hate to see difficulty go up but Id really like to eliminate the botnets and let this coin grow as it should.
