Waves over NEO. There is nothing that will cause NEO to get past the volume/price of Ethereum longterm. Ethereum been around.

If you have 500$, I think it's best if you would invest in coins under 1$ value. Investing in such coins will give you x10 or more profit if it boom. Coins like blue will give you alot of profit.

Much better if you divide that into 2 coins waves and ethereum these two will give high profit for your investment but it will take too long, and if you want fast income is you should invest in other coin which is less know and smaller value and do short term trading.

Based on the capital in OP i think that is not too good for long term holding because small capital only generates small profit but of course it depends what OP wants and all the suggestion here is good and it helps to other users who are looking for good coin to invest.

Waves, eth and neo are good choice I may add  stratis, ltc also is a nice choice. These could save your funds of 500$ sure profit in the long term. As long you monitor your hodling coins there is no problem to it.

ETH is believed to penetrate several thousand $ in next year. So, I feel eth is a very good choice if you have the desire to invest long-term. You can also invest IOTA, see its development so fast with initial price is $2.

Search for some coins around 1-10$ and buy (Strat, Waves, Neo, Xem).  For long term it could easily pay off your needs, but if you are here for some fast profit, go for ETH or BTC.

I think you should diversify your investment portfolio, and invest in these coins, Litecoin, Ethereum, Neo, Waves, and Iota. These altcoins would shine in future.

I would spread it in this way:
60% in solid and consolidated cryptocurrencies like ethereum, dash, monero
25% in altcoin, where you can make a short term investment and also do trading if you are able to
15% in ICO (I personally suggest you to follow the ICO that will be done from the Gilgamesh project, I think that this project can have a bright future and can bring a lots of advantages to the industry where they are trying to innovate)

First when you invest try to do a research about altcoins and divided it into half. Invest half of your money in eth because ethereum is the next to bitcoin and which will rise next year up to a thousand dollars. Then the half of your invesmet you may invest it in LTC because of it's potential that's surely will rise too.

$500 is not very big investment so I will pick altcoins with cheaper price but with good volume and can go higher in future so I will invest in waves, digibyte and sia coin.

I would suggest that you have to search the most undervalued coin now which has a potential for a good future and hold it until the 500$ becomes 1000$ and than start daily trading.
