Hey im a noob and i have no idea what im doing. i plugged avalon in to wall. and Lan cable into avalon then into router.

I changed ip address stuff, then loaded it up. pressed the restart cgminer button thingy after configuring my miner info.

im getting this error in the cgi miner api log

[Firmware Version] => 20130607
cgminer-772b354
luci-d854edc
cgminer-openwrt-packages-44ceab8
Socket connect failed: Connection refused

I am also confused on this step
Make sure WR703N can access Internet, Configure WiFi: Network -> WIFI -> Scan(select your WIFI network) -> Join Network -> WPA passphrase -> Submit -> Save & Apply for connect to WIFI Internet

I do not have wifi. also i have no idea what i am doing. i have windows 7. also i have never used cgminer. but avalon automattaciallicy installed it.

I hereby offer a 0.1 BTC bounty. Help me set this up correctly within 30 mins of posting this and ill up the bounty to 1 BTC

I am willing to use a throw away chat service for faster communication.

HALP!!!!!

Bad gateway can be no internet on the connection, do you need to register MAC addresses? Assuming the connection is fine, then the cgminer error needs a hard restart of the unit a few times to clear.

Your WR703n doesn't have an internet connection at this moment.

This segment is copied from bitcoin.it. Please follow this step according to your local network configuration.

WIFI or Ethernet Cable ?

Avalon shipped with a 9db antenna after connect it to WR703N usually could establish good wireless connection with your WIFI router. But if for some reason you would like to use Ethernet Cable to connect Avalon with your network, please login OpenWrt and configure the LAN port:
Network -> Interfaces -> LAN -> Edit -> Common Configuration -> General Setup
Disable the DHCP on Lan port
Attention: You need to configure it correctly based on your own network enviroment. If anything wrong you might could not access your WR703N any more.

Good luck.

PM 'Kartaiv' ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=100703 ) on this forum.  He'll be probably able to help you as he's done a number of things with Avalons.

Do you have the capability of doing any screenshots of your configuration?

EDIT: more specifically, your IP configuration for the LAN interface...
EDIT#2: you want to check DNS/Gateway settings, you could also try using a specific IP address for your pool, to make sure DNS resolution isn't an issue... but I assume it would be giving a different error in that situation.

also does the avalon thing automatically install stratum?

Stratium is a protocol, you don't need to install any software to use it.  In fact, you don't need to install any software at all on your windows machine to use it, the Avalon is a standalone computer with it's own OS and all the software it needs.

Do you have a phone that can do wifi tethering? If so, you could connect your Avalon unit to your phone, and start hashing that way.  Obviously not a useful solution long term, but if you just want to get hashing right away it might might work. Although you might need to find a Wifi antenna for it work well (I happened to have one lying around when I set mine up)

Actually, honestly you should just go walmart or BestBuy or something and buy a wifi bridge, or router or something - something that connect to a wired network and act as an AP (Access point)

That way, you can connect over Ethernet on 192.168.0.100 and use the web config thing and configure Wifi that way, once that's done your avalon will have two IPs, one for the ethernet port (eth0) and one for the wifi adapter (wlan0).  Once that's done  your Avalon should be able to connect to the internet.

A wifi AP is like $20-30, way less then 1BTC. If you buy one and it works, you can subtract that from my bounty Wink

___

I think you might be able get it to get an IP address from your router by configuring it to act as a DHCP client (under Network/Interfaces/Lan - protocol pulldown), but the problem is once you get a address lease, you won't know what the IP address is of your Avalon, and won't be able to connect to it over the web, unless you can get that information from your router somehow (it should be possible to see that information somewhere but each router is different.  Normally when I'm setting up a network thing, I'm using a keyboard and monitor, not doing it over the network itself, with no other way to connect to the device!)

Other then that, you could try leaving your IP static as 192.168.0.100, but setting the gateway manually on that same page (Network/Interfaces/Lan)

On your windows machine run the command 'ipconfig' in the command line. Look for he line that says "Default Gateway".  There should be an IP address.

Plug that IP address into the gateway field on the LAN setup tab.

After that's done, you can check to see if you're connected to the internet by going to the Network | Diagnostics tab and trying the ping tool

One thing to keep in mind, though - you want to setup your cgminer config stuff right away.  If you get online before setting that stuff up, you'll automatically start mining using the preconfigured pools, and making money for Avalon!
