If you want to be safe there is no better risk you buy in exchange because most of the ICO is now a scam. It's cheaper to buy in ICO than in the stock but to avoid fraud is better to buy on the exchange only.

I will give you an real example:
you can now buy my WSPU2 for $0.001 (ICO price)

During the ICO (the ICO can last for Months) bonuses are offerd.

Once the ICO ended the WSPU2 will offer more ore less ETH to WSPU2 holders.
I doubt then that WSPU2 holders will sell WSPU2 under the ICO price.

Of course few WSPU2 earned for free(faucet,airdrop,etc) can be sold under the ICO price,but certainly not much under it.

My suggestion is buying those ICO who is capable to collect funds in 1-7 days. Those have excessive demand and worth investing. Other projects will fell down below ICO price just after listing

There are coins that are skipping the stage of ICO and for those investors that are investing only when that coin is listed on exchange but they held an ICO, pre-sale / public / private sale then you are missing big bonuses.

ICO has never been given 100% guarantees, there have always been risks. Buying a token on the exchange is also risky. You just need to choose the right project and invest in it.

I once suggested people to buy on exchanges since ico is of high risk and most projects are scam, but listed on exhcange is still of risk, for example CTR on binance today, its unbelievable

Today is extremely good point to buy coins after the ICO - many of them strongly fall in price - it will be a great profit when market will grow.

1-Find an ICO with good team solid project and brilliant idea
2-Follow some big guy (maybe youtuber or maybe from twitter) to verify the project. This is important because many people will follow them
3- Join pre-ICO
4- Sell at the DEX (before the exchange)
5- Rebuy when the price is stable (and of course lower) from the exchange

Usually I see the potential of the coin and whether there is bounty or not. bonus when ico is also very important in considering investment when ico or market. and also the allocation of bounty. because it could be later on the opening of the market and bounty already in the liquid can make a dump

It depends. From my experience, if you see some ICOs having 20-50% "promotions" for their coins for a long period of time, then this is a huge red flag to NOT invest and wait for exchanges. This is because the price will definitely tank because those people will sell their excess, causing the price to talk really hard. That's what you see in some of these oversubscribed ICOs where you dont really understand why there was great interest given a particular tech that doesnt seem that great.
What you really need to look at is the ICOs with great organisation, the hype coming from authentic reasons and not targeted marketers and of course solid tech and great team, like Multiversum. Otherwise you will be burned similar to what you see in pump and dump groups that give the signals all too late, leaving you with a bag of tokens.

This is a very good point that I have not thought about before, I was mainly thinking that bounty hunters are among these who sell everything the first day regardless of the price. Why would that not also be the case for discount hunters..

the depth of analysis on ICO is very influential in this regard, I'd rather buy tokens that have been listing in the market if not too sure with some projects that I analyze every day, but basically follow the ICO is a matter of courage to speculate further. because the coin will probably also fail / will not enter the market, or at least enter with the expected price.
