I do not think any coin can beat easily  bitcoin  but if it does it will probably be Ethereum. Ethereum is very strong project with a bright future. I believe in it. And I am also hol Ethereum for long term. I don’t think that I would sell them in near future.
But Ethereum is far away from BTC. So we can not say that ethereum will beat BTC. It may take a few decades, because the BTC value is too large for Ethereum now.

Bitcoin is the king of the cryptocurrency market. At present it is very strong, it is difficult to get a strong enough altcoin to beat Bitcoin at this time. However, it is difficult to predict exactly what will happen in the future. Bitcoin is strong now, but in the future it may weaken, and EThereum will grow stronger and beat Bitcoin. Ethereum is the best altcoin, it has many advantages over Bitcocin like faster transaction processing times in 1 second, cheaper transaction costs, and better scalability of EThereum. Many projects are built on the foundation of Ethereum, each day it has a huge trading volume, indicating that it has great potential.

There will come a time that an altcoin would definitely dethrone Bitcoin.

Too many people and also companies are there and because of that it is taking more strength, surely it will grow by the
correct path and being more stable. In my point of view, it may be that in some future it may even equal the
Bitcoin, but it will be very difficult to overcome it.

There is always competition between Ethereal and Bitcoin to form ETFs. We are now at the end of this race. If you are convinced that EtherIndex Ether Trust (ETHX) Ether Exchange (ETHX) operator Etherx operators (ETHX), an Ethereal based exchange traded fund (ETF), Etereum are more likely to cross the winning line first. They believe their ETF will be approved by the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) before approving the ETF based on Bitcoin.

I don't that this is correct question in general. Why ETH shoudl beat Bitcoin? They both have their strong communities. ETH community believe to this platform and believe Vitalik. Also a lot of ICO used ETH as a platform for ICO, so all coins based on ETH and used ERC-20 token also support Ethereum. Huge coproration joined Ethreum Alliance and all this legal. BTC have largest and "oldest' community on market. This is the first and the biggest coin on  market and a lot of people believe to them cause they now that general ideas and general principles that platform based on still working without changing. Bitcoin still alive and Lightening network good example that BTC can have progress too.

I think competition for both coins are healthy, having smart contract and store of value seems pretty good points of each coins. nevertheless, if one can pull each other in coinmarketcap, so it will be a win win situation for crypto investors.

The point is that the goal is not to preserve these coins. The main thing is that the team had a fairly transparent plan of action and real prospects for the project.

Ethereum is a very valuable crypto paradise with a bit more support and confidence to beat Bitcoin. But Bitcoin has become a brand in the crypto money market, and the trust in it is not heard at any other crypto money. When this changes, the position of the market will change.

Ethereum is a coin factory which lets you to produce altcoins (tokens) easily unlike bitcoin where you have to run nodes, servers, make code modifications and stuff like that if you want to start a project. There are countless of projects which are running promotion campaigns of every kind there is. (forum sig camps, twitter, reddit, facebook, youtube...) This created a massive^massive amounts of eth shills.

Since ETH don't have any claims to be a "coin" but a platform for other projects and as for now there isn't a big competition in that space yet (Big projects like Cardano, NEO, EOS aren't developed fully), ETH is growing faster than the others simply because there is no competition. (this might change soon)

If we look at the other side where coins like bitcoin, bcash, monero, ltc, dash stand; there isn't much competition neither to be honest. Only bcash is trying to compete against Bitcoin but we all know bitmain don't have the juice to stand against btc forever. Once other companies start to come up with better miners (halong/samsung already lit the fire) bcash will be irrelevant. Bitcoin is the ultimate winner in that space. (as a payment processor, digital currency, store of wealth.) Bitcoin has (and should have) a bigger user base because it is sole purpose to be used as a currency and store of wealth at the same time.

As a result It all comes to this: Platform for Projects Vs. Digital Currency Markets

If ETH keeps dominating its space and somehow projects like EOS, NEO and ADA disappear  tomorrow, maybe ETH can surpass BTC in the future. All this depends on 2 things.

1- ETH shouldn't lose its market share to other projects like EOS, ADA and NEO
2- ICO market should keep growing.

The chance of ethereum to beat bitcoin is certainly huge, as we know that ethereum has not reached 5 years but marketcap is already over $ 70 billion, while bitcoin when 5 years of marketcap is not more than $ 1 billion, and I'm sure someday ethereum will beat bitcoin.

I do not think Ethereum will beat this year's bitcoin. The difference between ETH and BTC is too far away. ETH will be exhausted in the pursuit of BTC. It is very difficult for any altcoins to beat bitcoin, because bitcoin has a very high quality and price, and is very difficult to pursue.

LOL.
Dude what are you dreaming of?! Cheesy
Ethereum will never replace or beat Bitcoin. A Flippening is a wet dream of pure Ethereum hardcore believers.
I would say study the fundamentals of Bitcoin and Ethereum first and then you should know why this will not happen. Furthermore have a look how many competitors Ethereum is facing while Bitcoin is having none. Since 9 years no real competitor.
At least you made me laugh while having a nice breakfast this morning. Grin

My wet dream is closer to realization every day buddy /\

The backbone infrastructure of web 3.0 will be worth a hell of a lot more than a new global asset class.

> World superpowers like CHINA and the USA want their currency to be the world reserve currency, not some crypto asset. They can and will pressure other countries to use the dollar and yaun. Bitcoin has no army or physical influence, it will be big, but not world reserve currency bitcoin. It could easily take up a large portion if not utterly replace defacto reserve assets like silver and gold in the coming decades though.

> Investing in Ethereum and other smart contract platforms is like investing in the underlying infrastructure of the internet 20 years from now and being able quantify and have a stake in ALL of the wealth flowing through that infrastructure. Imagine if everytime two computers communicated with one another you got payed. That's the power of platforms like ethereum and I fully believe it will be one of if not the leading infrastructural standard. The whole internet and all the wealth flowing through it is worth magnitudes more than the world's gold supply.

If BTC is worth 300-500K in 2040 than ETH is easily worth 800K to 2mil

But please, do worry about your short term fundementals, this will change how world economies and networks fundamentally work. Limiting ourselves to short term implications is generally pointless when looking at the environment more abstractly.

Easily, BTC cannot rise due to scaling issues. Miners and the core team won't update BTC software, so if the growth continues, it won't just be Ethereum. Start thinking of ways to get control of BTC away from greedy people.

Another excuse why Ethereum's price is rising is that most of the existing and emerging Ethereum platform. With the bump in the application, there will then be a rise in demand for ether. Also, moreover than the terrific functionality, we can expect this year that this will moreover be a era for Ethereum to acceptance to performing arts along with bitcoin.

IMO, I think Ethereum has more to fear now than Bitcoin, most of these new projects now the likes of EOS, Tezo, ICON, NEO etc are all in for the position of Ethereum, and with the improvement they are promising especially with the transaction speed and transaction fee, I think they one of them will catch up with Ethereum

I don't think that will be possible. Atleast not now. Bitcoin is years ahead of ethereum at this point in both usage and sentiment, definitely can happen in the future though.
I completely agree with you About the real possibilities of Bitcoin and its relative history. But only the etherium has many more prospects, which appear especially today. The fact is that thanks to its protocol, many companies create their own coins.

this is so and therefore the demand for the etherium is growing in the market. Of course this is a positive moment. But we must remember that with the rise in the price of the etherium, there will be a rise in fees for each transaction. And this is already a little pleasant phenomenon for all users of crypto currency.

the fact is ethereum is more stable then BTC , but its increasing very slowly you have to wait enough to see reach it to the level of BTC.  Btc raised so fast it took only some months to reach this high, but ethereum is taking time , i think it will take atleast 1 year to reach this point.

While it is true that ethereum seems to be a more functional cryptocurrency than bitcoin in certain aspects, I am convinced that if ethereum had the potential to displace bitcoin from its place of predominance, that would have happened some time ago.

I believe that in case the bitcoin gets displaced by some altcoin, I have many doubts that it is ethereum who achieves it, since both cryptocurrencies begin to feel the pressure for the new technologically more advanced altcoins that have been emerging recently.
There was no big progress in the whole digital market, which includes bitcoin too, until last year. Things were never as good as they are now. Ethereum makes progress after bitcoin. It can’t move forward on its own. Since the beginning of the crypto market, it has competed bitcoin and is number one rival too but never came even a little close to defeating bitcoin. I admire Eth a lot but BTC is unbeatable.
