Because US government is against cryptocurrencies. As long as Microsoft doesn't want to have problems with officials they won't take any risks. Especially risks like that: Bitcoin as a payment method is only for geeks and it's not worth keeping it just to satisfy them.

no it is not for geeks. It is not a payment method at all anymore and this is why they removed it.
It is amazing how people can deceive themselves and keep deceiving whatever happens and whatever facts are in their faces.

Here you have the true reason it was removed:

They removed it because making payments in Bitcoin was no longer viable. Who want to pay a transaction fee of $100 for purchasing a Microsoft Office Suite which costs $150? The charges levied by Visa/Master for the same is around $3 per purchase.

I am not shocked to see this as it was quite expected to see such corporate companies exit Bitcoin. I do believe that it is a temporary move since it is obvious that people won't want to pay such huge fees for their services. Such tech giants has these transactions on a daily basis and it might be difficult for them to see such huge fees for their products to be paid. The problem will be solved when the Lightning Network will be implemented.
The LN would surely bring more tech giants towards BTC as a mode of payment.

why Microsoft Removes Bitcoin as Payment Option for Microsoft Storew?
Microsoft removed it because they said that it is unstable currency (highly volatile). But i found an article that says that it is only temporary and microsoft will resume accepting Bitcoin as payment method and users can continue to fund their accounts with Bitcoin, I will provide a link of the article below, I don't know if this is true but I don't care if they will removed it or not because I don't want to use my Bitcoin to buy in microsoft online stores. I don't even think that there are lots of people funding their microsoft accounts with Bitcoin. Anyone here?
Here's the link: https://www.thurrott.com/microsoft/149835/microsoft-now-lets-pay-with-bitcoin-once-again

why Microsoft Removes Bitcoin as Payment Option for Microsoft Storew?

yeah I saw that in one of youtube news videos , the youtuber mentioned that this is a temporary move
Microsoft is saying that's due volatility  , but bitcoin has always been the same when it comes to volatility since the early days

most likely it's due the long time to get confirmations , since it can be really serious when your business is  fiat based
for example when a customer makes a purchase and pays certain amount in btc , at the time that the transaction confirmed the whole value based on USD may change a lot

so the site may lose money if the price go down , or they may gain money if the price go up

In short, the profit of microsoft will also be unstable if they are in bitcoin.
Eversince, the price of bitcoin is unstable. The volatility of its price is one of the factors why there are some investors are attracted.
I think it is just a strategical move of microsoft in order for them to gain more profits because microsoft think that it is too hard to risk at bitcoin. Maybe it will be the reason why they will crash out.

Yeah, I've seen this news in a article in https://cointelegraph.com/news/microsoft-removes-bitcoin-as-payment-option-for-microsoft-store saying that microsoft removed bitcoin as payment due to its volatility. Maybe Bill Gates is right because as we had experienced this last year before new year, bitcoin's price really is volatility as it really goes down, and as a company CEO, Bill Gates cannot afford to take risk particularly in a company.

If they care about volatility why don't they just implement a payment settlement code so they can automatically convert them in fiat. Or use BitPay or similar services.. Bitcoin is so flexible and has so many applications, but people need to be open to learn how to use it as in any new technology. Roll Eyes

in my opinion microsoft does not accept bitcoin due to unstable bitcoin price. besides that i think microsoft just wants real money.
I also think that microsoft does not accept bitcoin because the cost in wearing to transact with bitcoin takes a long time.

did Microsoft really remove bitcoin payment option or is it just another FUD because price has been moving sideways?!

in any case i find it pretty interesting that Microsoft has been accepting bitcoin payment for a couple of years now (probably 3 years) and nobody talked about it at all. 0 news in any of these news sites. now that there is a rumor about it, every one of them is talking about it!

There is a FOMO brewing...

It makes sense that they removed it since it has such a big volatility, even though I think bitcoin will continue to grow so they wouldn't lose any money, but it might not be very smart to keep it as a payment method.

The best is yet to come!

I had already replied ITT that they have re-enabled Bitcoin payments, but news websites are posting different articles about the outcome.

Have a look:
http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/technology/microsoft-restores-bitcoin-payments-after-working-to-ensure-lower-amounts-would-be-redeemable/news-story/1c875957f470944709497dcfa6ec5fd2 (16 hours ago)

https://www.coindesk.com/microsoft-resumes-bitcoin-payments-after-halt-over-instability/ (4 hours ago)

I think they did resume Bitcoin payments in the end. Can anyone confirm this perhaps?

Here's a statement from Microsoft as to why they reinstated Bitcoin payments again:
Quote
In a statement to news.com.au on Wednesday, a Microsoft spokeswoman confirmed the suspension but said the service had now been restored.
We’ve restored bitcoin as a payment option in our store after working with our provider to ensure lower bitcoin amounts would be redeemable by customers,” she said

$100 transaction fee? Did we reach the moon already?

Fees can be as high of as low as you make them (of course there is a risk of lowers fees for tx's never being accepted), or stuck in the mempool for days, but come on - $100?Huh Absurd.

The US govt has made their stance clear.. so far.
For starters they enacted AML/KYC laws on exchanges. (which cover a wide range of issues)
Secondly they enacted Tax guidelines / laws.
Other than that as far as i am aware they have done nothing to hamper Bitcoin.
Hell, Marshall's even auctioned off Bitcoin before. (2013)

Because US government is against cryptocurrencies ?

Nope you are being dishonest and covering up the glaring issue.
BTC is failing at being a CURRENCY.. while you lie to make money of it being used as a commodity.
With out the one the other is useless..
Being dishonest is of no use.. it will not help your cause Bitcoin'ers.

BTC needs to be an effective and competitive currency alternative to other services already in use.
How can it be when it swings in price so drastically and so suddenly ?
And how can it be used when the fee's keep rising to ridiculous levels ?

You are being silly.
That is like saying customers don't want to buy a car that has no wheels and can't move.
While blaming it on the car color or something.

perhaps this is a temporary measure, and one must be a little patient, after some time it will return as it was.
but also this news has an impact on the cost of bitcoin, its falling down...

I would suggest that the smart move has to be paying for these products using a crypto debit card, that way you can benefit from the rise in crypto values and not be saddled with the tx fees. It's a win / win

The transaction fees are certainly a concern  - however that is what Bitcoin Cash was invented for - it can transfer much faster with much less fees - i'm not sure exactly how much fees exactly but it certainly is the more viable option. Or else there are many other coins to adopt with a blockchain which becomes more efficient the more widely its used....Like DeepOnion  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Perhaps you are right, perhaps!
But we need to study this thoroughly, I think if they want, it`s possible be done, but whether they will be want it, it still remains a question)

May be recent unrest in market. Bitcoin extra fees can be. It takes a lot of time to get Tx confirmation.

The transaction cost for BTC is becoming too high as compared to other traditional means of fund movement. That not so promising
