The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

This reminds me of the Bill Hicks rant about crosses:

Such a weird belief. Lots of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when Jesus comes back he's gonna want to see a fucking cross, man? "Ow." Might be why he hasn't shown up yet.

"Man, they're still wearing crosses. Fuck it, I'm not goin' back, Dad. No, they totally missed the point. When they start wearing fishes, I might show up again, but... let me bury fossils with you, Dad. Fuck 'em, let's fuck with 'em! Hand me that brontosaurus head, Dad."

If I had to guess, I think satoshi is in fact Nick Szabo or a close associate of his work.  After looking at Szabo's blog (http://unenumerated.blogspot.com/ ) and some of his work (http://szabo.best.vwh.net/index.html ), Szabo seems to have the prerequisite knowledge in programming, cryptography, and monetary systems to make something like Bitcoin happen.  A lot of his publicly listed work also seems to stop around 2007-2008.

I very much doubt Szabo is Satoshi, but I've enjoyed reading his blog article "Some speculations on the frontier below our feet".  Quite fascinating, sometimes people dream about exploring out of space, and yet there are some quite interesting discoveries to make right here on Earth.

Is Satoshi based on the North-eastern Japanese coastline?

Should we be concerned?

Well i hope he logins on the forum at least once to confirm that tsunami / quake hasn't killed him.

"Is Satoshi Alive" is a serious question now, if he really is Japanese.

Even though I doubt he is a Japanese, it will be a great tragedy if it turns out he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Apparently, this "Satoshi" is none other than the same Mr. Steve Gibson who touted Bitcoin on his Security Now netcast.

In fact
In fact, now I'm positive gibson is the author of the code because it's got his damn signature all over it. He's the only programmer in the world that religiously uses IRC protocol to push data around. That's his M.O.

His name comes from joined names of Japanese corporations who created him, Samsung-Toshiba-Nakamichi-Motorola.

This man speaks heresy. Samsung is a multinational corporation based in South Korea, not Japan.

Yup, that rumor is getting propogated, this time by Eric Johnson in his presentation that included Bitcoin:
