I would like to start a list here of all the projects demanding us to hand over our Passports to participate in their airdrop/bounty/ICO.

If any of these projects are hacked or turn out to be scams our passports will fall in to the hands of criminals or worst yet terrorists.  These projects are also going against one of the core principles of Crypto and that's its anonymous nature.  Lets stop this now.

I urge everyone to list the projects demanding this type of identification and talk to community members about how sending your passports over the internet to strangers is not in our best interests.

In my opinion KYC should be only for big investor and not for bounty program or airdrop. Company that offer token sale and required ID just for KYC and AML complaince so not any issue about money laundry and any others fraud. This is actually good for ICO market so ICO not use for money laundry or other fraud so the cryptocurrency community will be bigger.

Yeah Peculium is a mess over there.  Just 1 bad employee and your passport is hijacked.  People going to learn the hard way.  Bobs and Peculium seem ill prepared for the massive undertaking so you know your personal documents are in harms way if you were insane enough to send them in..

@Hopewell12. Why would you give sensitive information about yourself to a random ICO token project which might likely be a scam? If they ask for your passport then do not waste your time on them.

I predict identity theft will be the new objective for some of these ICO scammers. Everyone should be careful.

Don’t most icos require kyc? Your list might get really long! I’m actually all for kyc. I don’t want crypto reputation tarnished because of some criminals or because terrorists get funding because of anonymous wallets (and coincidentally I’m tired of terrorists killing people so the flow of funds to them must stop). If you want a simple solution: do your proper research on the ico you will invest in or bounty or airdrop and only send your information to those that are reputable.

The reward and airdrops need KYC validation, which sounds crazy, I think it's unnecessary.

KYC is also the protection of the company for potential money laundering people, if you are not sure about the companies credibility then dont join if you are afraid that your information might be lose or get stolen or worst be used for illegal activities.

Just avoid any KYC-required projects. In case they're scam you will lose not only your money but your private data too, and the most projects for now are scam.

Let's wait government will regulate projects (project owners), not the people who invested.

Agree with you. Why we have to show our documents to join cryptosphere? It's not save for us, because they can steal our information and we can be imprison in Vietnam or China for investing in crypto.

This sucks man, honestly how so many airdrops project with crap idea try to apply kyc verification. This is crypto and we don't need to fill it anymore. There is a big risk if the developer becomes a scammer and your ID can be used for illegal activities. That looks crap. My guess a lot of people are forgetting it.

Lets hope that these ICOs wont get hacked, but we dont have any assurance with this thing.Hopefully experts will find a better way to remove the disadvantages in KYC verifications.

The truth is that no one needs your passport or ID card. For any serious transaction you need to verify your identity in person. If anyone will try to lend a huge amount of money on your passport then in case of scammer's success the bank will drop all the charges against you and the issue will be investigated by the police. If  you didn't used your ID to make a transaction then the law is at your side.
The another thing is that the price of the "full KYC verification pack" in the deep web is from 10 to 50 USD and it includes all pics of the passport woth a picture of the owner holding it near his face. The truth is that your ID pics literally worth nothing. Just count how many people ever dealed with your documents: bank, university, all government services, employer and many other people. Damn if anyone gave 5$ to the guy that works in the department that issue passports then he would probably already have a couple lambos.

It is necessary that this was prohibited at the moderator level. If the team is going to conduct KYC for bounty members, then they are required to indicate this at the very beginning, and not at the end of the company. So that everyone can decide for himself whether he needs to take part in it.

Take a stand against compliance with government regulation?  Not going to do anything is it.

Instead, why not make a practical movement asking ICOs to use some identity verification service, i.e. Civic?

I am also in favor of KYC.  For the good of the community, it is important to have and follow established rules of money.  If you consider the reasons for having KYC if think you can understand.  It adds legitimacy to the space and will quickly curb the number of criminals that want to participate.  If you don't like it, you do not have to participate in bounty, no one will force you.  Lets keep crypto safe... and criminals can continue using USD.

I agree with this, I think KYC should be implemented only for investors on the ICO and not to airdrop or bounty participants.  Submitting an ID of yours while holding it is a big no specially if we are not 100% trust on the project.  With info we give to them and our picture and documents they can use that.

Yeah you did a right thread. Sending them a passport copies is hillarious. And I can't even get why does they need it, we're unable to do a bad things during bounties, it's just has no point. If they don't like anything they can just reject you and that's all. What the sense in passport copies?
