LOL, I just placed an order with a big computer retailer here in the UK for another batch of 16 GPU's at very competitive price, in fact they advertise on the web 1 gpu per person, when I called and talked to sales rep, told them I needed 16 gpu for a mining rig he immediately took my payment and process my order.
where did you get these from if you dont mind me asking?

GPU mining consumes a tiny fraction of overall world energy output.
Total hysteria. It's a non-issue.

Oh this again.
I can say with 99.999% certainty that GPU mining will not end in 2018. It may even survive beyond 2020.
Nothing is ASIC proof. Some company could easily develop ASIC miners for eth and other coins. Unfortunately, it is easier said than done. Designing an ASIC chip for eth mining takes alot of time and money.
If any company is to start designing an ASIC today, they won't be able to commercialise it by end of 2018. With all the development, testing, debugging and getting foundries to make the chip, buy GDDR5/5x/6 (DDR6 is coming soon by Samsung). Its impossible to do everything within a year.
Also, if the company wants to get started, they would need funding. They will need to advertise and investors. We would have heard of something by (if they wants to ship in 2019). Preorders would need to start early as well. Right now, I have yet to read or heard of any ASIC in development or any company planning to develop ASIC for eth mining.
Unless some big scale miners are designing their own ASIC secretly, I don't think anything will change anytime soon......

I'm not allowed to speak the truth openly, If I was then many coins would have already been killed off, so yeah let's hope nothing will change this year. I can however laugh at idiots who are buying GPU's at 400% their msrp. They are the ones who will be hurt pretty bad.

Saying mining is a waste of energy is like saying Auto racing like NASCAR and Indy and Formula 1 is a waste of gas.
They pretty much drive around in circles and end up wasting all that fuel that causes pollution.
Same with eating beef. You eat a hamburger and somewhere a cow farts... guess what that fart causes much more pollution than mining.

As long as GPUs can mine a coin, there will be coins to mine with GPUs. It's just the way it is.
Until the day you can't make money with a coin by mining it with GPUs, this will continue.
People just want to make money with GPUs, and that will never change unless there is a much easier way to do this and everyone switches to that instead.

We will continue to mine for sure but will be profitable like we have today...no one know that

Two reasons why GPU mining will never die.
1.New GPU-s will be released every 6 months or at max every 1 year. 2.New GPU friendly coins will be released.
End of story: GPU mining will continue for quite a while, no need to worry about that.
Fact: Actuall a rig of mine with 6 x RX 570 with perfect bios modification and total hashrate in eth 0.182GHS is making 0.0017 BTC daily while a S9 is making 0.0012 BTC daily. This shows that a GPU mining at this moment is more powerful than a S9.

I don't think so. GPU mining will stay as long as there is strong coins based on GPU mining. Just make sure that in the rig you have good amount of memory in the graphical cards.

The problem is on this month, January 2018, prices of graphics cards have gone up over 100% compared to that of December 2017 last year. The ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 Ti MINI 8GB GDDR5 256-bit for example, the price last year was more or less $480 and but now it's $1177 and like other brands, it's very hard to find nowadays here in the Philippines.

Equihash is very hard to build asics for due to the increase in memory requirements
but i dont think gpu mining will die, there are so many algorithms out there , there should always be something to mine even when Eth ends
Neo Scrypt is also ASIC resistant. GPU mining isn't going anywhere, it's the coins we mine that will change!

Well, if it died before, was resurrected, and now will die again... who cares if it will just be resurrected again? Mine responsibly. Friends don't let friends mine drunk.

Friends don't like friends buy gpu's drunk ... Lol ... Also ... This thread will die in 2018. Anyone want to hedge against it? Lol.

Is Ethereum currently mined with GPU only or are there some asic solutions (I wasn't able to find)? In this case how GPU mining can die if Ethereum blockchain is growing permanently?

Remember how Eth was going PoS in fall of 2017 and we were all screwed?
If ETH manages PoS before 2019 I will be shocked. They will push back the difficulty bomb again.
