I am a fan of any solution that helps bitcoiners to communicate.  Clearly the OP and I are not alone in this desire for high quality communications with our peers.... from my poll:

Do we need a new forum?

No, I love it here it is so professional and the mods really seem helpful   - 17 (9.5%)
Yes, this site doesn't even have a privacy policy   - 10 (5.6%)
No Way, where would I go to scam people?   - 1 (0.6%)
Yes, It is offensive that BFL advertises here   - 10 (5.6%)
No way, where would I buy my illegal securities?   - 1 (0.6%)
Yes, I do not like that Tradefortress runs an illegal bank here   - 2 (1.1%)
No, I like that I can come to this site and do criminal things   - 2 (1.1%)
Yes, I'm sick and tired of the mods not doing anything   - 15 (8.4%)
No, I like that they hold 6000 BTC from the community and still allow scamming   - 11 (6.1%)
But then I couldn't buy my drugs anymore   - 1 (0.6%)
What? Where would we go?   - 10 (5.6%)
If you don't ban Viceroy I'll just scream   - 31 (17.3%)

1. Oh shit, I should have noticed that. Already got the fix, I'll add that in.

2. There's not much need to type something in there about how a new head admin would be chosen. I stated how admins would be chosen, to be honest, it wouldn't be hard to have a community-wide vote for admins who are willing to step up to the plate if I resign/die/get eaten by a dog etc...

However, I will still add both points in.

More than that, considering some options, such as the 6000 BTC option.

---

Question: Should I start a pledge with a goal of 5 BTC, to kick-start the forum as well as pay for advertising?

Step one should be:  Achieve critical mass (a large following).

Step two should be: Launch a test site.

But I would make sure step one is in place first otherwise there is little chance of adoption.

Yes, I agree.

If step one is completed, I'll launch a collection for pledges to the site, use the money to launch a test site, and get to work.

I know that all the ~30 active members of DiaForums will probably join the new forum, so...that is a start.

I'm really surprised that someone hasn't went and said "LOL UR 13 YOUNG TWAT" yet. Wow. I applaud you, internet. ;)

EDIT: Going to sleep. Will check responses first thing in the morning.

While a new forum isn't such a bad idea as I can imagine there is a demand for it, I disagree with a multitude of things here. First of all, the moderator selection. Selection of post count? Really? Come on, that's horrible. Also, why SMF? I understand it's generally nice but I wouldn't want to use it for a BTC forum myself. And finally, I'm not sure how I'd feel about you running it. I'm not wanting to sound jerkish, but I've seen outbursts from you, and annoying things like you "trolling" where you nearly convinced me your account was compromised. I'm unsure what would happen if you had the power of running a forum with a large community. Eitherhow, I'll see where this goes.

Selection of post count?

Just...ugh.

Quote from: Design Paper
Footnote 3: (postcount / 10) + (accountageindays * 2) + (accountactivityinhours * 3) = value that is used.

Also, why SMF?

Mainly because bitcointalk runs on SMF. Movement should be smooth.

And finally, I'm not sure how I'd feel about you running it. I'm not wanting to sound jerkish,

Well, most of the time you post on my threads you say something along that line and it is pretty jerkish, but go on.

but I've seen outbursts from you

In a chatroom, probably. Everyone has outbursts. Please link to an outburst I have made publicly on Bitcointalk, though, I do have a level of control over myself.

and annoying things like you "trolling" where you nearly convinced me your account was compromised.

Refer to the above. That was a joke.

I'm unsure what would happen if you had the power of running a forum with a large community.

I'm not looking to overthrow bitcointalk. The forum will just be an alternative to bitcointalk if people want to use it.

* DiamondCardz goes back to read the Design Paper

Well, I did include something that would fix that.  Wink

And a lot of people would disagree with you on that with the fact that quite a few people do think censorship goes on here. (Meta section)

- MERGE -

Added in Section V: Advertisements to the design paper.

Added in a poll.

Added in Section VI: Rules to the design paper.

I'd like a trusted member to hold my dox, in case I scam or do something stupid with this project which results in people losing money.

I want to be able to trust at least 1 member with:

My address
Proof of my full name and where I live (in the form of prescription pictures)
RL photos

That's basically it, combined with what I have on the design paper, it's enough to track me down if I do something stupid.

Wouldn't a trusted escrow be willing to do this?

Say goodbye to democracy.

BUT I will support the forum, no funding, sorry Tongue  But management, helping it set up, moderating, I can all do.  Hopefully this works out and I'll try and join as fast as I can Tongue

You're already thinking of donator ranks and stuff...  You should start small then go towards the cash island.  Starting out big won't do you any good, I wouldn't want to buy a rank when there are only like 100 members Tongue

Goodbye to democracy? Ehhhh, it's better than me just cherry-picking all of the mods and admins because I like them.

It's better to plan ahead.

Also, I have provided jackjack with my dox, so that he can release it if I scam (or do something along those lines).
