Choose among the top 20 coins. For me bitcoin and ethereum are the best to invest with.  But i prefer to invest more ethereum because eth have a big chance that will grow. This is like bitcoin, eth will soon be the next controversial increase in value in an instant.

if you know only about bitcoin, try to know other coins as well. You will find many good coins to hold long term.

Then i suggest hold Ethereum because it is good to hold for long term even in short term, also this it has big potential so that surely its worth holding, and i believe also to this crypto because it is now one of the successful crypto and next to bitcoin. I think I have some tips for you. You can invest in some old Altcoin like Bitcoin, ETH, NEO, etc. However, I do not like NEO much because you do not seem to be able to keep the odd numbers in the wallet and the value of the numbers.
