At very least u guys should have a debt collector and a PI finding out his true identity/ current location and negotiating promptly that any bitcoins left are frozen and handed over.

Cant believe you have not at very least bandied together and done this as suggested weeks ago.

Hopefully one of you has.

Understand it is a terrible episode, but sitting on your hands waiting for law enforcement is not using all of your available resources imo.

Anyway, wish you all well, hope you get some coins/funds back in the end.

It's been reported to the police.  There isn't much else to do but wait for their investigation.

There's a lot more that can be done! Filing a report is tantamount to doing nothing.

We should reaffirm his identify (by having someone local confront him), and then ensure that it follows him. I would think it would be hard for him to get a job or find a date with people always informing his associates that he's a thief.

I don't think everyone's trying to get. Some of us are just busy. But once again, his promises are not confined to the virtual world, and his debts to me are not settled until he pays me what he owes.

+1

As far as I understand (from JohnHarmer), TF is in Beijing and his identity is known.  (Can JohnHarmer or anyone else confirm this?)  Several of us have sent documents to JohnHarmer which he is going to translate into Chinese and file a complaint with the Beijing police.  However, if TF's identity and/or whereabouts are not known, then I think banding together to hire a private investigator is our best bet.  I wanted to do this a month ago.  Speaking for myself, I think one obstacle is that people don't want to reveal their identity and so it's hard to trust others.  If we're going to go the PI route, I think a group of us are going to have to work together using our real world identities.

As an American, I've reported it to the SEC and am waiting for their investigation.  I know from reading news that the SEC is chronicly underfunded, so I am not expecting it to be quick.  I do wish that he'd get either a Scammer tag on this forum or at minimum the return of the -187 reputation so that no one would ever trust his forum account again.  Although he's probably smart enough to use a different forum account if he plans on pulling another scam like this again.

But still not nearly as fast as a technically competent private investigator, whose job depends on past and future results.

But presumably most of the CoinLenders balances would have been in investments and loans, not this wallet, right?

Presumably some of it is, but we'll have to take that up with the borrowers, because TF has absconded.

"loans"  "investments"...   Roll Eyes

Well, some of it is. You can see that he gets AM dividends.

the two weeks reference relates to inaba of butterfly labs contiuned promise that the ASIC miners would be here in just two more weeks, two weeks later inaba would simply state 'it'll just be two more weeks'.  This long con continues to this day as morons pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into butterfly labs ongoing scheme to extract money from unwitting wannabe bitcoin miners.

I am offering you 0 satoshis, transaction fee is on you.
In case it proves technically impossible to send 0 satoshis, I can send you 1 satoshi instead: consider it a tip, not a real price: the real value of that deposit is effectively 0 IMHO.

FYI to anyone not following the CL lawsuit thread.  I've reported some further information to the police that I received from forum members.
At the moment they're waiting for information from third parties to confirm TF's identity that could take up to 45 days.

Things are going slowly but don't worry I won't forget about it Smiley

Let's keep an eye on blacklilac as well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=321290.0

Remember, he was one of the borrowers that TradeFortress said he couldn't reach. Maybe he ripped TradeFortress off or maybe they are in on something together. Blacklilac vouched for tradefortress and coinlenders honesty here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1j4sy2/how_legit_is_coinlenderscom/ while claiming that they had made 1000s of bitcoins together in the last few months.

edit: lender/borrower confusion
