Whether altcoins were from bitcoin or not. I'm not sure about the fact, but I believe altcoins were dependent on bitcoin. This is what getting reflected on the market of each and every altcoin. Upon the same when the price of bitcoin drops, automatically the value of altcoins too dropping low.

But there are some coins which can withstand the changes of BTC. One of the most popular is ETH.

Bitcoin is the father , altcoins are the sons . No matter bitcoin or altcoins , they gain value because they use the tech of blockchain , blockchain is the future.

Alternate coins are probably based on Bitcoin or they may also be based on Ethereum. Since both of these tokens can be bought and sold thru this mediums. Some alternate coins are supported by a Bitcoin backup which will help them recover from unexpected failures. Every alternate coins can be bought by both Bitcoin and Ethereum, this means that they are based on it and they did not come from it. They are all based on different blockchain technologies for each of their own platform and programs.

Day by day many investors are investing in altcoin continuously in the crypto market. But any problems are created in the Bitcoin value automatically most of the investors are panic to our investment so majority of the investors are exchange our investment it will affect all the altcoin. This is temporary issues in the crypto market .

it gains value because the market bought it using bitcoins. so if bitcoin value drops the price of altcoin also drops. some coins will withstand that though.

How exactly do altcoins gain value?
Altcoins are gaining value because of the investors, when people are investing to those coins then its adding to the market cap of it. And when it has a market cap, it is distributing its value base on its supply.
There are so many altcoins out there and honestly you can see connection among these in terms of the drop and rise of price.
They are all connected and depending to bitcoin but its hard to assume the real market factor of it. Before when bitcoin is dropping, alts are rising but now its different. When bitcoin is dropping, majority of altcoins are dropping too.

What I know is altcoins were born because bitcoin started it, and so cryptocurency becoming more stronger. Since bitcoin is the first currency and Stablish every price of altcoin is dependent on it that is why all altcoins price are affected every time that bitcoin decreases its value.

I would not say that all. I saw that bitcoin was falling in price, and some altcoins were growing up, why?

Whether it is the alt coins or whether it is the bitcoin everyone gets their value from the initial investment and the upcoming investment into them. For example, ICO's are launched in the market then interested investors will join the project as shareholder and thus they will put some money into it. After the funds are raised and project value is calculated, developers will put some value on it such that they will decide a hard cap below which no one will be able to sell the coins making sure that they will be left out with some funds which can be used fro the further development. Once the development for their products and services is completed they can just raise the value according to the gains from the product that they sell or get untitled with. Generally thats what happen in the market and gives all the fluctuation, prices etc.

Altcoin is 1 coin, BTC is also 1 coin and both prices are fluctuating. The actual value of the coin was just exactly when you convert it to dollars (or / EUR / CNY / JPY etc.)
BTC is the eldest brother of the coin market. if BTC strong depreciation, this time altcoin price usually drops . at the moment, if invested in altcoin we were gross loss. Similar to other cases

As everybody was saying that bitcoin is the father and yes Altcoins was the sons, that is the fact even though they have different ICO's and developers they all are using the blockchain technology, And we can see if not for bitcoin other Coins doesn't have value and when bitcoin pump so much every other coin would do, And the same as pumping when bitcoin drop its value other coins will sure be on the red zone like what we does see right now.

Most probably from the basic investment. The drop in and rise in the value could be related to many factors such what is the volume of the investment for the last 24 hours or through the whole financial cycle. It could also depend on the good and bad news for that specific alt coin project. Fro example, if founder makes some announcement which is showing the projects development is going on in the positive direction then surely it will attract more investors into it and thus can make huge difference really. It also depends on the bitcoin volume because alts are anyway traded against the BTC itself. If that market is not doing well then surely the effect can be see clearly on the alts section too.

How they do gain value? Then its simple. They do gain value because theres a demand and people who do decide to bought it. They are not relying on bitcoin price itself since they do have different market but most of the time those coins are really tied up with bitcoin when it comes to conversion. Price movement might be identical for sometime but they are not actually correlated to each other.

Well said. Altcoins, like everything else is as valuable as someone is willing to pay for it.
There is connection between altcoins and Bitcoin because you can buy/sell altcoins mostly by paying with Bitcoin.

So if people sell Bitcoin to buy altcoins then altcoin prices will rise. If people buy Bitcoin by selling altcoins, then Bitcoin price will rise. If people sell their Bitcoin for cash, then Bitcoin price will drop.

As simple as that:)

The main currency in cryptocurrency markets is Bitcoin. Its price tend to effect altcoin prices. Alts usually found Bitcoin runs and Bitcoin tends to fund alt runs. So their connection is obvious.

Indeed if at first glance both look almost the same, they include digital currency, but much different,
Altcoin will not be able to stand without bitcoin while bitcoin is able to stand without altcoin,
Altcoin is arguably an alternative coin of bitcoin,
The purpose of making altcoin is to cover the weakness of bitcoin,
The weakness is the limited number of bitcoin in circulation at this time.

The value comes from demand, if there is a huge demand for a coin and since most of these coins are not minable with fixed token supply, so as the demand for this coin increases the price also increases

They are gaining their values with the increasing demand. If a coin has some innovations or unique working styles, the demand to that coin increases and it can has a good value on the market.

Now we can watch some fuss on the market of crypto. If several months ago altcoins were going down when BTC was growing, then today BTC is falling together with alts, and starts to gain with the other coins. Suppose that everything has changed, and now alts and BTC have the less connection than before.

In the real world, maybe, and for Bitcoin, surely. But when you see a lot of alt coins with a handful of early users, and thin order books with sell and buy orders simply not filling up, don't you think: there's no demand here. Yet that's still the price.

Just because something is scarce, doesn't mean it's in demand. Look at people who buy rare collectibles. Yes, there is a demand, but to me that doesn't really say anything if only a handful of people are willing to buy (and not for using even).

Just like bitcoin, the value of altcoin is dependent on the demand it is gaining from the market. Basically, alternative coins started with crowdfunding and thus mean not from bitcoin. Alternative coin serve a particular purpose, its purpose attract people to invest on it. Price is dependent on how useful the project and how people will be benefited from it. An altcoin may only gain increase in value when the took interest on it and eventually gain demand and popularity.

There is a link to bitcoin as bitcoin is the gateway to crypto, and if you start with fiat, for a lot of coins you have to go via bitcoin before you can buy them. Also when there is a news report saying something about bitcoin, this is generally interpreted to mean the whole crypto market, so prices tend to move together on this sort of news.
There are also independent moves where one coin goes up or down according to its own developments, but this can be buried beneath bigger whole market movements.

Altcoins and bitcoin uses similar technology both of them works on blockchain. Because bitcoin is dominated cryptocurrency in crypto market, everything depends on bitcoin. All of altcoins are under pressure of bitcoin price.

No, altcoins are not from Bitcoin per se. However, their concept is from Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the pioneer cryptocurrency in the market, and in every market, there should be a pioneer asset where other assets would pattern their production from. Although they are supported by different technologies and are virtually different from one another, they also have similarities as currencies, investment and trade mediums, and hold-able assets that can be encased in the future.

I think bitcoin and altcoin are connected because when the bitcoin got red the altcoins also got red and when the bitcoin got green also altcoins got green. Also the thing is, before you can convert your altcoin to your country`s currency, you must need to convert the alt to bitcoin first, thats how cryptocurrency works on our country. So they are really connected, you cannot earn from altcoin here when there is no bitcoin.

My opinion on this is that altcoins were made and mostly patterned with bitcoin. In relation to the market movement trend, I would say that BTC and altoins were merely correlated with each other as what we had seen in the previous days where price of BTC had dropped big and same with the altcoins.
However, there were few altcoins that hasn't much affected during the market crush mainly because of it's good performance and reputation just like Ethereum coin.

You should never think one of them without the other one. Especially most of alt coins are really dependent on bitcoin. They usually follow the trend of bitcoin . If bitcoin goes up they go up as well and if bitcoin goes down they follow it again. Bitcoin gets affected by alt coins too but not that much. It is usually bitcoin who shapes the future of the market.

So they are really connected, you cannot earn from altcoin here when there is no bitcoin.

Absolutely, alternate cryptocurrencies are currently base from the demand and supply of bitcoin so what ever comes first if the demand in the market are low they are pumping of value so makes it (green) and if the supply are  high or more in the market they are dumping makes it (red). Instances of volatile is always concern they are normal.

How exactly do altcoins gain value? There are so many altcoins out there and honestly you can see connection among these in terms of the drop and rise of price.

The gains of altcoin depends on many factors, one of them is BTC but also you need to consider that demands is also affecting its price.

Bitcoin is the source or the father of all cryptocurrencies and altcoins are the sons of bitcoins and these altcoins have many projects depending on their whitepaper. Altcoins are very different from bitcoin but on the concept it's the same since it's a cryptocurrency. The increase of value of a crypto is depending on how successful it is. If investors are that many then the value of that certain project will increase.

In my personal opinion,as for Bitcoin were the first cryptocurrencies created, and in a nutshell, they are essentially an electronic form of currency. While Altcoins in essence function as bitcoin clones but with improvements in the speed of transactions, enhanced hashing algorithms, and better distribution methods.

with bitcoin success altcoins start to emerge. they emerge to improve the flaw of bitcoin as well as to try to compete with bitcoin by innovating and developing new features as to improve and surpass bitcoin limitations.

if you want to understand altcoin market then search for "Penny Stocks", that should give you a pretty good idea what you are dealing with. and in this market you have the addition of manipulation in form of pump and dump and lots of newbies and underage kids who got in because the market was open unlike other markets which you can't get in with 20 bucks!
so mainly the altcoins are gaining value based on speculation and thin air.

your question in the title is asking a very different thing though. it implies altcoins are fork of something which is true in 90% of them. they fork from other projects like bitcoin most of the time.

Altcoins or ICOs have different strategies and different developer team but totally they are dependent on bitcoin as were based on the blockchain technology, so we can see red market when bitcoin goes red and green when it goes green as we have observed just before. Bitcoin is the one which gives meaning to the altcoins.

I agree, with the new altcoin, that bitcoin has so many rivals, but even though the competition is so tight, it's still the bitcoin that's number 1 to my knowledge.
now altcoin is created so much that we can not understand the concept of the new coin.

The value comes from demand, if there is a huge demand for a coin and since most of these coins are not minable with fixed token supply, so as the demand for this coin increases the price also increases
With the fact that the value comes from their demand, I completely agree with you. But about the need for most projects, I can not agree. There are projects that do not understand what they are for.

The reason of drop and rise in value of alts along with rise and drop in bitcoin is due to the fact that the price of bitcoin reflects the average sentiment in the crypto space. Most people including me invest in alts to increase my bitcoins. Remember almost 90% of the coins will cease to exist in the future, but bitcoin is here to stay!

The idea of how altcoin gains value is quite simple, from the very beginning that an altcoin is created, is deserved of a purpose, of a purpose that can influence a system or even the day to day of people, with that generates demand the interest for the currency. Regarding the connection is undoubtedly correct, Bitcoin is the main currency, all the others are alternatives and all depend on their moment and current value.

They gain value through the standard of their altcoin but the drop and rise of bitcoin always affect them all all because bitcoin is the measurement of the success of all cryptocurrecy. But it doesn't mean that bitcoin will carry all the altcoins on success but the contribution of each altcoins also play a big part.

Altcoins are cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. The majority of altcoins are forks of Bitcoin with small uninteresting changes. This page categorizes different ways altcoins have modified Bitcoin.

It's like comparing the exchange rate of a pair of euros and a dollar with the value of gold. Gold in this example is Fiat. If gold rises, then the euro and dollar exchange rate are lower relative to gold at the same time

Anyone today can make very easily his own coin, in the same way he can make his own bills with a printer.
The problem, of course, is that nobody will accept them.
The value of bitcoin is in the general trust it gained in these years.
Altcoins have a value only if they are based on a real project, otherwise their value is zero.

Well then who demands for bitcoins??? This necessarily means that companies accepts bitcoin as an exchange for a product or service. So initially these companies must've had or bought bitcoins using conventional currency for it to really be valuable not just by being demanded or by being accepted. Cheesy Same thing goes for alt coins, it is widely accepted because it gains value through bitcoin,

Coins gain value if they have an intrinsic utility. Things like Monero have unique features that aren't seen on bitcoin (such as anonymity in monero's example).

It gains value depends on the technology they want to contribute. If the idea is unique, easily to understand and it will impact our lives in the future, this altcoin will gain a good value in the present and even in the future.

I think most altcoins are dependent on bitcoin that's why it usually is affected whenever bitcoins price goes down, mostly goes down with it as well. And mostly these altcoins gain value whenever the coin has something to contribute in the community or if people think it can be applied or used in our normal lives.

Most of altcoins gain their value due to the fact that almost all markets trade it using BTC. That's why drop in BTC affects on the value of altocins.

All coins are based on the blokchain system, and as we see the dependence with the change of bitcoin, the founder of this system, most of the altcoins also change. Some of course have already become self-sustaining and are not subject to such changes, it is to such coins and you need to bet.

Bitcoin is the highway, all other alts are the roads.
^a pretty good analogy

As of now, most of the bitcoin derived altcoins are based upon stupid idea for which the developers and founders of that coin think their coin have potential while actually, in most of the cases their coin is nothing more than way for the higher ups to gain a quick buck. I would never understand how some people invest in something so stupid, some people are really gullible.

Bitcoin is no doubt the foundation and bedrock for the cryptospace, hence got strong connection with all the cryptocurrencies. However, each coin is as independent as possible but all depend on the blockchain. This is why whatever happens in the chain affects the whole market and Bitcoin is the number 1 influencer of the blockchain economy.

Alternate coins usually have different properties from bitcoin, for example XMR privacy, ETH dapps, SIA storage.. etc etc
It solves different problem than bitcoin does
But IMO altcoin will always "pegged" to bitcoin because majority of exchange pair altcoin with BTC

Well said and I share your opinion here. It is quite obvious that altcoins are completely dependent on bitcoin in many aspects due to the widespread popularity of bitcoin etc, but bitcoin also is dependent on many altcoins in many ways. As altcoins like Ethereum, Litecoin etc become more and more popular, more users will start showing interest in bitcoin as well attracting more investors towards the crypto market which would obviously help increase the value of the crypto market at the end of the day. Legit altcoins like Ethereum are what matter here(Not the plethora of scam coins).

Not all altcoins comes from the bitcoin, but all the altcoins were created based to the original bitcoin's code. Most of the new altcoins are being based commonly to ethereum's platform which has some smartcontracts and dapps applications.

The whole crypto space is now an echosystem, and a quite strange one. Since value is a matter of perception of a shared reality, value of different altcoins tend to change in a sort of tune, all different coins behave as a cloud, a swarm, and faith in the price rises and fades for the whole echosystem. This phenomenon should be studied further.

In a normal market, if bitcoin grows some other coins should fall, and viceversa, because this would be the measure of their relative value.
But actually, bitcoin value measure the general trust toward ALL cryptocurrencies (please note that the vast majority or people just herd something about bitcoin and have no idea of the altcoin existence), so inevitably its growth or its descent influence directly all the other coins.

Some of altcoin depends on bitcoin and some of it is independent to btc, it's eth. Altcoins value was gain through users and developers, the rise of the price value is affected when the flow or circulation of the supply is good. Holding is also the key that's why community also affects this. Having a good community and communication, it can make a value to the altcoin.

Altcoins are created based in the original source code of bitcoin created by satoshi,so this altcoins has only one based source code which is bitcoin's code. But it doesnt mean that they are the same, bitcoin was the foundation of all the cryptocurrency which means bitcoin has started all of this then these altcoins came from nowhere.

I'm not sure about the fact, but I believe altcoins were dependent on bitcoin. This is what getting reflected on the market of each and every altcoin. Every alternate coins can be bought by both Bitcoin and Ethereum, this means that they are based on it and they did not come from it. They are all based on different blockchain technologies for each of their own platform and programs.

I suppose every alternative coins are based on the form of bitcoin. The fact that it is alternative its features are somekind or most likely patterned from bitcoin. This altcoin somehow innovates or at times made for specialization according to its value and usefulness towards any transactions or wherever iy may be used. Bitcoin and altcoins use the same technology which is the blockchain technology. It is an online ledger which is immutable that makes it safe and effective for transacting online. Now, I see many different applications of this technology and bitcoin is one of the application which is for remittances.

Altcoin and bitcoin are two different things. Bitcoin is like an individual and altcoins is like a general term.
There are many altcoins out there. There are ethereum, litecoins, dogecoins and any other coins that you heard of.
They are all coins but Bitcoin has so much more value than altcoins.

From the part of yes. But almost all the altcoins have their own uniqueness. Bitcoin created this sphere, created an idea. The others modernized it and presented their more advanced products.

Altcoins are not from BTC but they depend upon BTC.BTC is the father of crypto market, suppose if there were no Bitcoin then surely there were no Altcoins. Its usually seen that when BTC price goes upward most of the altcoins price also goes up and some goes down.BTC is the price setter for Coin market cap.when you receive payment in crypto its mostly BTC or ETH,so in this respect we can say that altcoins dependent on BTC in many respect no doubt how many successful, innovative projects are going in their support.

US stocks are valued in USD.  Altcoins are kind of like stocks of the crypto world, although it often also has a transactional value.  In the crypto world, altcoins are often transacted in Ethereum and Bitcoin so they are valued in the those crypto currencies.  The more buyers of a coin will cause the price to increase, and visa versa.

One altcoin to check out is the ICO for RLCoin, an enterprise solution for loyalty: www.rlcoin.io.  The product has existing traction with 250 clients and partners in Europe and Asia.

The price of a currency is the measure of the trust that people have in that currency.
In this case, as bitcoin represents in public perception all criptocurrencies, its value measure the general trust toward the cryptoworld.
Is that simple.

The value comes from demand, if there is a huge demand for a coin and since most of these coins are not minable with fixed token supply, so as the demand for this coin increases the price also increases

Altcoins are related to bitcoin in their price only because the market uses mostly bitcoin in having trade price with any coins.
Even the coin has the price in USD still bitcoin insist as they are getting dollar value equal to bitcoin price in USD.

Majority of the alternative coins is very dependent on bitcoin. You can check it on coinmarketcap that when the market price of bitcoin up majority of the alternative coins also goes up and when the market price of bitcoin goes down the alternative coins also goes down.

From my understandng alt stands for alternative, so alternative coins to bitcoin. The majority of alts are currenty token based on the Ethereum blockchain. There are also forks of Bitcoin which have the same or a slightly modified code such as Litecoin or Bitcoin cash. I am  not sure if these also fall in the same category

How exactly do altcoins gain value? There are so many altcoins out there and honestly, and you can see the connection among these regarding the drop and rise in price.
Bitcoin is an Altcoin, but many are misconceived that Bitcoin is a king and Altcoin does not include it. Like all coins, Bitcoin is also a virtual currency and is based on the blockchain platform. So, Bitcoin is an Altcoin.

Bitcoin and altcoin is different from each other they are independent. Although bitcoin influence altcoin in the market it does not mean they are on the same source. Investors makes the price moves and they are making the coin to have value.

Well some of altcoin's price are related to bitcoin because major funds of that said coin is also bitcoin and other major coins. So automatically when bitcoin is down so do they, however the difference is that if that coin has alot of investors then it will move upwards yet bitcoin will stay the same.

For me no, it is not from Bitcoin, because of the bitcoin limited supply and when it become known and start to grow Bitcoin supply is not enough to those bitcoiners who want it, so only few people can have it or those people who can only afford Bitcoin because limited supply while have higher demand of it. And that's the one of the reason why alternative coin or altcoin created, but its not like bitcoin. Altcoin is much develop than bitcoin in technology but still bitcoin are great crypto to all even many altcoin are created and have potential.

Bitcoin is a reference coin to which everyone equals and whose place each altcoy wants to occupy. If bitcoin grows very fast, altcoins are falling. If bitcoin falls sharply, altcoins fall even more. And only when bitcoin is stable, altcoins grow. While some altcoyin will not overtake bitcoin in terms of capitalization, it will. This is the fundamental basis of the market at the moment.

If the price of bitcoin will down the price of altcoin will also down in times 2 or times 3 ,so as I see when you lose your money in bitcoin because the market is Down now ,you will lose double or tripple  on  altcoin.

Altcoin's value was able to increase as many supporters kept coming. with more and more emerging supporters capable of producing far greater developments on their values. is very influential for enthusiasts who attend and support Altcoin. and also to the degree of interest, this greatly affects the development of coins that exist between the rise and fall of prices and the value of coins.

Bitcoin is indeed a mother but does not mean that altcoins are from bitcoin, altcoin is created as another alternative to bitcoin. Since this bitcoin has the highest value and no one has replaced it then to get the coin, we look for another coin alternate name so named altcoin.

Altcoins or ICOs have different strategies and different developer team but totally they are dependent on bitcoin as were based on the blockchain technology, so we can see red market when bitcoin goes red and green when it goes green as we have observed just before. Bitcoin is the one which gives meaning to the altcoins.

Many altcoins based on Bitcoin. Whatever change in Bitcoin affects altcoins generally. Price change in altcoins is parallel with Bitcoin. But, few altcoins have own infrastructures. They aren't affected from changes in Bitcoin much.

How altcoin picks up esteem is very basic, from the earliest starting point that an altcoin is made, is merited of a reason, of a reason that can impact a framework or even the everyday of individuals, with that creates request the enthusiasm for the cash. maybe it has been a very long time for altcoin to get its place in the community as a service payment instrument or as an asset that they think is more valuable than precious metals, depending on the community's perspective if they think the services offered by altcoin are useful like altcoins that provide medical services and others the value will be very valuable

It's just people are emotionally attached to btc like it's a gold among silvers, just like usd to other currency, people tend to save up their money in form of usd when something bad happen.
they always think that usd is the safest, things like that happen in the cryptocurrency world, people think that holding btc is the safest, that pretty much explain the current condition.

Not really.
Some altcoins use blockchain technology but technically blockchain is not bitcoin. Bitcoin is the name for the coin itself.
However, there are altcoins that use ETH tokens ERC20. For those, you can say altcoins from ETH I think.

I do not know if, when the value of Bitcoin drops, does the value of other Altcoin coins affect their value? But it may be that the alt altars only slightly affected the value of Bitcoin. They are affected because, in recent times, there are too many rumors that the major trading markets in the world are experiencing many related problems.
