The story of Laszlo Hanyecz might have you shook. 😨
Back in the day when you could still mine Bitcoin with just your computer and the price per BTC was $0.004, there was really no market to sell bitcoins on and nothing to do with them.

However, in May 2010 Laszlo posted a thread on the #Bitcointalk Forum, asking if anyone wants to #exchange 2 large pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoins. The post generated a few replies over the next two days, but nothing significant - until Jercos got in touch with Laszlo to deliver him 2 pizzas of his choice for the 10k BTC exchange because he believed it was history in the making.

The 10,000 Bitcoins used to pay for the pizza would now be worth an incredible $500 million!
So of course, Mister Hanyecz was asked if he regrets spending that many bitcoins for a pizza -  but he answered that finding someone who accepted the first cryptocurrency as a #payment was revolutionary! 💣

So what can we learn from this story ?
Never sell your cryptocurrencies too early - be smart enough to hold them and believe in their growth because you might never know how much they’d be valued in the future.

The Story Of Olaf Carlson-Wee ▫️ Coinbase's First Employee 🪙

Olaf Carlson-Wee was a student at the Vassar College in New York when he wrote the founders of Coinbase an “annoyingly long” cold email in 2012, including his thesis about Bitcoin.

Due to his excitement for Bitcoin, he wanted to work in the industry more than anything else and applied for any open job position available at Coinbase.

After graduating from college, he was invited for an in-person meeting at Coinbase’s headquarters in San Francisco and finally became part of their customer support!

What makes the story so interesting is that he chose to be paid in Bitcoin with a starting salary of $50,000! 💰
He worked for the company for three years, eventually becoming Coinbase’s head of risk.

It is unclear how much Bitcoin Carlson-Wee owns, but the price per Bitcoin was at $13 before spiking to more than $1,100 when he started working at Coinbase.
Bitcoin is now valued at $57.000 which makes him at least a multi millionaire.

Did you know that the Banking System as well as the Gold Industry consume more than double the energy than that of the Bitcoin network? 🤔⚡️

Last week, Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla will no longer accept Bitcoin as a payment method due to climate concerns.
But actually, a recent report by Galaxy Digital revealed that the global banking system as well as the entire #gold industry both use more than double the amount of energy that is being used to mine bitcoin in a year.

💡To give you an example:
The Bitcoin network consumes about 113.89 TWh/yr in total while the banking system does not directly report electricity consumption data, but Galaxy Digital claims the banking system uses approximately 263 TWh of energy each year, which is more than 2x that of the bitcoin network.
In comparison, the energy footprint of "always-on" electrical devices in American households is 12.1x that of the bitcoin network.

Formula 1 Joins Chilliz Blockchain 🏎💥

Aston Martin Cognizant and Alfa Romeo Racing, two of the biggest European racing teams, just announced their partnership with fan-token platform Chiliz.

Sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to purchase fan tokens via Socios.com, an app based on the Chiliz blockchain.
Fan tokens in the sports industry are mostly being used to obtain digital fan products or as  marketing tools. Some tokens even certify voting rights for fans, which they can then use to participate in certain decisions, such as voting on a jersey, for example.

This Man Threw Away $480.000.000 😱

James Howell, the 35-year-old IT engineer from Newport made headlines when he once again tried to convince local authorities to search for his hard drive which he accidentally threw away while he was cleaning his office in 2013. 🗑

He was mining Bitcoins since 2009 and according to Mr Howells, 7500 Bitcoins were stored on this hard drive, which at its peak would be worth $480 million! 🤯

He is confident that he can recover the Bitcoins even after all these years - but so far the Newport City Council has refused to let him search the landfill site he believes contains his hard drive.

The IT engineer even offered to donate 25% of his lost Bitcoins to the city, but so far to no avail.

That’s a tough lesson to be taught - so be careful where you store your hard drives and keys! ☝️ There’s no way to recover them.
