EDIT: 50 sM being giving away in the following thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3199334.0.

EDIT: Great! We have one outta four six following the rules so far - QUOTE YOUR POST!!! I'm no longer following links. Sorry. <this announcement was originally penned here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3055943.msg31466554#msg31466554>

The rules are simple. Quote in this thread what you believe is your best most current post on this forum, whereupon I, only, will judge if it warrants at least +1 sM.

Others, feel free to follow my lead including your attempt having a quasi-snazzy thread title.

Let's make maxing out BitcoinTalk's resources great again.  Roll Eyes

Ready? GO!

Bruno

PS: Don't blame me if others opt to also give you sM for your scintillating prose thanks to this thread.

PSS: I might as well plug my sig while I'm at end, or visit https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2580003.msg31607131#msg31607131.

shameless plug.

Welcome to Joe's Signatureless Challenge.

Starting Monday, March 5 at 9:00PM (GMT -6), a weekly challenge will commence, awarding one winner with the following prizes:

$20USD* () or $25USD* () via PayPal or BTC

and

1 Merit (given that I have sMerits available to give)

*read this post in its entirety for full payment details.

Who can enter the challenge?
This challenge is available to any and all English-speaking members (Newbies thru Legendary) of BitcoinTalk. Negative trust members are permitted.

However, there is one small catch: you must not be wearing any signature that belongs to any paid signature campaign. You can have your own signature, or you can choose to wear my signature below (for a chance at an extra $5), but you cannot be a part of an existing signature campaign.

This challenge was designed to help eliminate spam and shitposts from the forums. In return, you could be rewarded for posting quality content and contributing to BitcoinTalk. As it currently stands (March 2, 2018), there will be one winner selected every Sunday. The first winner will be chosen on Sunday, March 11 at approximately 9:00PM (GMT -6). Participants are eligible to win multiple times throughout the duration of this challenge. Participants must apply for the challenge every week that they wish to enter.

The cutoff for entering is every Monday at 9:00PM (GMT -6). Upon posting your application prior to the cutoff, you will be eligible to participate for that week. If you apply after the cutoff, your application will be valid for the following week. YOU MUST POST YOUR APPLICATION IN THIS THREAD EVERY WEEK THAT YOU WISH TO PARTICIPATE.

How do I win the challenge?
You simply have to have the most substantial posts (according to me) for the duration of the week. There will be a minimum of 10 posts required for the week, and no maximum. Posts will be allowed in any topic on any board, as long as the board is English-speaking. Off-topic? Sure. Gambling or Micro Earnings. Go ahead. Ivory Tower? Yup. Altcoin Discussion? Sure, why not? As long as your posts are knowledgeable or contributive to the given dialogue of the topic, you'll earn points in my book. I won't disclose my criteria, but I will commit to going through every participant's post history for the week to ensure that a winner is chosen fairly.

Here is the application format:
Code:
BitcoinTalk Username:
Starting Post Count (including this one):
BTC Address:

Note: You do not need to submit a BTC address at this time. You can always submit it if/when you win the challenge. The same applies if you would like your winnings via PayPal.

Click here to view the challenge spreadsheet (updated weekly)

Good luck, everyone, and thanks for doing your part to help make the forums a better place, even if it is via having a chance to win some cash and merits! Cheesy

topic:
Lightning Network (LN) and Segwit are separate protocols.

Lightning Network utilizes time lock contracts inside of multisig wallets to allow multiple tx's for 1 tx fee.

Segwit fixes a tiny bug called "transaction malleability" and unintentionally increased the # of tx's a bitcoin block could load into it as well.[1]

Do you think the Segwit protocol is it enough to ensure cheap transactions in the future?Or do we need more "LN"?
we notice how the mempool is completely empty after using the Segwit, So how  it will be after apply LN?
Do you think the Segwit transactions will be deactivated in the future?

This is one of my latest post.

Im memeber sience 2016 i m jr member but i have to be memeber becouse already have  70 post but i still dont get 10 merit my question is how to get it ?

In order for you to receive merits, here are the things you should be doing.

1. Learn to properly write in English. So that the ones reading your post wont have a hard time reading. Just look at how you pronounce the words its horrible.

2. When posting, remember to read what you are writing first so that you can correct the misspelled words, before you click the "Post" button.

3. Read and practice English. Majority of the forum member here can speak and write English well. If they cant understand what you are saying then there`s not a single chance that you can get merit.

Contributing and/or answer the question/problem of a forum member will also help you get merits "but" they need to understand you first. So my suggestion for you is to learn the basics of English then everything will follow.

Indeed today we all are connected on this forum is also due to the Satoshi firstly and then very obvious Theymos  as well. Let me tell you what I was couple of year back did not not matter much to people as they mostly ignored or dint meant anything me in their life. Though felt really bad but I always knew one thing that hard time passes by and need to wait for the opportunity and grab it when it comes.  Bitcoin was that opportunity when I was introduced to it by my friends and from their things have definitely become much better personally and also around me and it has definitely changed the lives of millions of people across the world and made them self depended too now. This would have not being possible unless we had Satoshi to create something like this and then by Theymos to bring all under this forum. So yes my life changed for better and for my family and credit goes to founder of Bitcoin.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2890450.msg30138662#msg30138662

Yes I agree with you. To hodl is the best thing that we can do. By the way, do you know what HODL abbreviation means? Hold on for deer life! Do it, friends!

We all know that holding will actually help people only to get the better value. But this unfortunately people do not understand and they keep selling and thus this leads to the more fall in the market especially during the panic trading. When some news come instead of holding majority start selling and thus it keeps falling. Instead if they do not sell price would rise as more and more higher buy prices quotes would be placed to get the btc and prices may not crash which happens due to people continuously sell due to their fear.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2939625.msg30417434#msg30417434

Bitcoin would be one of the best coin to invest for long term. And there are some coins that are good for long term investments but you need to do some research first whichever coin you are comfortable with investing your money in.

Consider BTC as an evergreen coin which can be invested any time whenever the market falls . Also along with this even their are few altcoins which if bought now could also help you to build a good portfolio for 2018 and you will not be just depended on btc alone. Make a portfolio comprising of few altcoins as well for the good rise and making some decent profits throughout the year.

Thanks for meriting me. Here's another post which may be worth meriting:

Trading is gambling after all

Well, sort of, at least for the majority of ordinary and wannabe traders. It is relatively easy to earn money on a rising market but it becomes a completely different matter when a sideways market sets in like it is now in the cryptoverse. There are two major factors that turn trading into gambling for most players in this type of market which are presented below.

First, in any financial or speculative market, where Bitcoin rightfully belongs to, you can earn only if you take money from someone else. It could appear as if everyone earns with the rising price but things reveal their true nature when the price stops rising. It is kind of obvious but accepting this is necessary to understand why you can be the one losing the game in the end.

Second, some market participants have an unrestricted edge over the rest of the pack which means that under no circumstances they will be losing. These are arbitrageurs, insiders, exchanges and their likes. For example, it is impossible to beat exchange since it is 100% sure money for them when they can front run your orders and do a lot of other nasty things which you can't.

Given these two circumstances, it is easy to see that if you do not belong to the group of market participants mentioned above, trading pretty quickly turns into gambling for you. So your only chance to win is pure luck. But luck is not a friend of consistency, therefore the only consistency you can reliably expect is losing to someone who has an undisputed edge over you and the market.

Feel free to comment and post your thoughts and ideas here.

Of course you may not like the KYC, and you are free not to do it. But calling it a scam is ridiculous, I would say it's totally the opposite...

I have given my personal details to a lot of fantom airdrops and got anything. This is a serious project and Eidoo/Ubiatar are rewarding users that want to partecipate to this and other ico... that's why the ask to register and do KYC to icoengine!

Thanks for the help, much appreciated! Now to the posts:

My idea to easily flag some of the shitposters using the current system:

While I was in the frog pond I came across this guy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1659648
He posted +600 posts yet failed to get any merits! He even  started a thread just to say this:
Today Bitcoin is at $11,000.

If you buy Bitcoin at $1,000 after the price falls, you get/save $10,000. That's profit.  Smiley

When Bitcoin goes $1,000 to $2,000, you get $1,000 profit.  Wink
I reported the post and it has already been deleted...

So... My idea is that all members with a post count that is more than 100 times - or whatever the staff see fits - their earned merits should have their post history checked by the mods for a possible ban. I guess it could be implemented so those accounts automatically appear for the mods to check them.
Edit: Based on TheQuin suggestion, you can add time to the equation so that it only gives members with +X (eg. +100) posts in the last month.

Why wait for the shitposters to stop using the forums? Lets take action and start banning them!

Hi, kindly check my few suggestions:

I'll came up an idea to have a Sticky Recommendation thread.
Is there a possibility to have a RECOMMENDATION MERIT THREAD?

I thought with help of that thread those high-quality post/topic will be recognized, by linking those meritable post here and give a brief explanation why should be given a merit on that post.

Some of us doesn't have an ability to give a merit right now but we can help our fellow member to commend a quality post. However, no one shall recommend his/her own post and that thread were specific for post recommendation only then let those kind hearted members to validate your suggestions.

And if possible to have within each local section.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg30206870#msg30206870

I'll edit the last part about capable of giving merits.

Is there a possibility to add THANKS BUTTON ?

Instead of replying with Thank you, all we need to do is to click that button and we can maximize the essence of our post/activity.

In merit system only member upto higher rank are able to give it but in thanks system all ranks are allowed to give it and the counter for this doesn't matter for our ranking unlike merit.

Hello!

You may like this post:

There are numerous people here on the forum who make shitty posts in signature campaigns and bounty campaigns just to earn some crypto. Lately, the forum was filled with a good number of shit posts which annoyed many people and this is why the merit system was introduced. I can notice the difference as well since the number of people in the campaigns are getting decreased. Although there are people trading merit, it wont take longer to eliminate such users and I am sure the forum will then be cleansed.

The problem is people are not inclined to give merits to junior ranks, apart from a few "altruists" springing up here and there from time to time. You can check many DT1-DT2 members' profile pages and see that they are busy rewarding each other with dozens of merits for meaningless posts in Meta, while there are quite a few decent posters in lower ranks who are unlikely to make it to the next rank just because no one gives them enough merits even despite the fact that their posts are oftentimes more insightful than those of who probably think themselves as forum elite. I mean much of the Economics board, for example, where these elitists and highbrows are not heard of simply because they have nothing to say.

That said, I don't like it. The main problem is there's no incentive to give merit to good posts, and that's probably why you see so little of it. It's a poor attempt to solve the real problem of low quality posts, and I don't necessarily see it doing a good job of it.

Strongly support this opinion.

Why isn't BTCtalk mods stepping in and ending this serial fraudster with an ip ban

I respectful disagree with your sentiment even though fuzznuts has both unstoppable oars in the water while his boat's on shore moored to an immovable object (To Say Nothing of God the Dog).

"We woud like to speak with you about the power and glory of the almighy excrement, and invite you to our Kingdom Hall of AGM76's Witnesses. Here are free copies of recent issues of AwakeConnect and The All Along the WatchConnectTower. Do you have any questions as to why we don't vote, salute the flag, or masturbate in public?

Can we pray together after we sing this hymn?

"No reason to get excited"
The thief, he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
Though this is not our faith
So let us not talk falsely now
It's time to masturbate"

Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do
Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do
"

Here is my post for consideration, I did a thread summary by going through all the comments in thread

I invested some time to go through all the comments in this thread one by one.
I took a positive comment as "Yes" and a negative comment as "No"and in between as "Maybe".
Here is my  summary

Q. Will Ripple (XRP) ever go back to $3 again? Can it recover?
Yes: 83 (55%)
No: 53 (35%)
Maybe: 15 (10%)

Now some highlights from this thread as pro and cons towards XRP and Ripple as a company :

Pro:
- "Ripple (the company) may have a lot of success"
- "Technically, (ripple) coming close to the real world, believe in xrp."
- "This coin, despite being completely centralized, has a very good chance of success."
- "Ripple has huge potential"
- "Ripple in gaining back the price value to $3 USD is absolutely a big chance"
- "Ripple is a good coin, they have new development in this year it will grow up to 5$"
- "this coin has many supporting from different countries and companies."
- "It's a corporate coin that might convince people/banks to start using crypto currency. "
- "XRP can be used with major banks for easier transactions"

Cons:
- "Ripple is not a crypto currency"
- "XRP is highly manipulated"
- "Ripple had a quite a run that is finished for now"
- "A lots of FUD's and negative opinion about this coin "
- "It became little bit unpredictable"
- "100% pure pump and dump"
- "driven by hype.  Hype normally don't come back"
- "XRP has an out of control coin emission"
- "Ripple is good on papers but not in market value."
- "Ripple project will not be able to rise , this project is not ready for further development and it harms other crypto-currencies"
- "this coin , it was created using banking structure of the banks"
- "FUDS and fake news coming from these bankers"

Here is my shot at this chance, hope it can take away some of your sMerits  Grin ,pardon me if i made something wrong

Quote
Chill guys, it is me again, athan88, if you enter this thread please read until the end before doing anything.

As i said chill, what i mean was "Lets Break Up The QuestionAuthority Merits Giving Activity" as He/She/It is the most generous merit giver right now.

As we know, Measurement Entity of Readable and Interesting/Intelectual Talks (that is how i see MERIT in case you cant see my bolded letter) was implemented on 24 January 2018 (or 25 January 2018 i forgot) and the implementation brings a lot of feelings ( you can see how people feels about merit in my topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2822349.msg28909933#msg28909933) , actions, and new threads on meta section. Some of members think it as a positive solution and some think otherwise. There are lot of members who think they wont get merit easily, yes of course it wont be easy but it is not an impossible task too. So with this statistics that i got from looking and gathering data from QuestionAuthority merit page, i hope it can change their perspective to be more positive into this merit system, as this system just only running for about 2 weeks 3 days. So lets look into it.

(Statistics made based on QuestionAuthority merit page, February 14, 2018, 10:06:25 AM)

If you want the numbers of merit per rank that has been given by QuestionAuthority, here it is :

Quote

Newbie           : 3 merits                       Full Member            : 328 merits
Jr. Member      : 13 merits                     Senior Member        : 147 merits
Member          : 86 merits                     Hero Member          : 303 merits                          Total : 907 merits

So from this two statistic of QuestionAuthority merit activity, i (and you can too) can conclude some things like :
Quote from: my conclusion
1. Merit is given to all ranks, even though the Newbie and Jr. Member doesnt get a lot, they dont need merit too much in the early time ( newbie --> jr.member doesnt need merit, Jr.member --> Member only needs 10) , and look at member ranks, it starts to get a lot of merit, and so on for the next rank and it decrease again in legendary rank. I conclude that this is the great pattern for merit distribution, because each rank needs different merits to rank up.
2. Merit is given to not only in popular and special board. Bitcoin discussion is the top board that this person/bot  Roll Eyes gives merits at. Invites and Account at second because QuestionAuthority made a thread for rewarding a good poster, but He/She/It gives merit to the merit request post instead of giving merit to the post which the link has been given by the requester. I guess this kind of thread can help worthy people to rank up, you can join His/Her/Its thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827596.0
3. If you look closely, people have their own active time to give merit, so if you want to increase the chances of getting merit, try to make a good post on their active time.

So, with this statistic, do you guys still feel the sMerit is not given accurately? I know that QuestionAuthority is the number 1 giver right now and not all people are like him/her/this bot  Roll Eyes, but later people will be at his position and this man/woman/bot  Roll Eyes will even give a lot more, merit will always be dynamic object, and of course the number distributed will be increasing in the future, give it time (its not even 3 weeks) and better stop whining and start increasing our quality so the potential merit giver acknowledge our posts.
I dont know if QuestionAuthority do it intentionally or not, but the best thing to adopt from this statistic for all people that can give merits is the giving pattern based on people rank, and i hope people can adopt the pattern.

Feel free to comment and discuss about it below. Thanks guys !

Thanks for your attention.

Just stop and think about the complexity of what MCO is trying to achieve. It is one thing to have a debit card in fiat, but quite another to have a card which can change crypto to fiat at the payment terminal.  This single action will take considerable development to work smoothly.  They may not be meeting their self-initiated schedule, but are probably close.  The simple solution for the people waiting for the card is that if the interfacing of crypto is not important to you, go get a regular debit card from a bank.  If the feature is very important to you, wait for a fully tested & functional system.

My understanding is that their first card will actually be more like a travel card, where you 'load' fiat currency onto it based the exchange rate at the time for the crypto you're swapping, and then whittle that away and 'reload' the card when you think exchange rates for crypto are favourable/you run out of money.

Also a later product alluded to by Monaco is a more traditional credit card, where you get a credit line based on the value of crypto you hold, and you can pay that back as you would a normal credit card.

It is also possible this credit card could instead reduce your crypto value by the equivalent of your purchase on your account/app - I recall they mentioned (I think in a Q and A) that under this system it won't actually convert crypto to fiat at the payment terminal every time you swipe your card. Instead, it will be 'off chain' and only be recorded on Monaco systems, and only be put 'on-chain' when you want to withdraw your money from your Monaco account/app. Part of the reason for this is converting crypto to fiat everytime you want to buy a coffee would lead to substantial fees (think of the bitcoin fees for example).

I'm pretty sure large exchanges do something similar, so you don't get charged huge fees every time you trade some random altcoin for bitcoin as long as the coins stay on the exchange. You only get slugged the large fees when you withdraw your crypto to your personal wallet as this is where the crypto definitely has to be put back 'on-chain' to your personal address.

This is a tough one! Well one of my more popular (and still recent) posts was the above on Mco - There are some others that got some attention, more because they referenced one of my blogs that had a bit of detail but they are quite a bit older. Hope you like my post!
