Just passing this along from a cube user.

My Cube runs around 32Gh/s when clock is set to Low, but runs slower on High - about 29Gh/s.  On High there is one board that has an entire half switch over to X's.  I'm not sure if this is what is limiting my hashrate, but it's the only thing I see out of the ordinary.

I've tried several different PSUs, checked the heatsink, etc,.  I swapped the card into another slot and the X's followed, as expected.  I understand these devices aren't always going to be perfect, so it's not that a big of a deal.  I can certainly live with 32Gh/s.  I just didn't think it would hurt to inquire.

I figured out my issue and wanted to pass it along.  I was running my stratum proxy with the "-nm" switch.  That's what was killing my hashrate in High clock mode with the cubes.

-nm, --no-midstate    Don't compute midstate for getwork. This has outstanding performance boost, but some old miners like Diablo don't work without midstate.

Got my cube today.  Thanks!  But several of the screws holding the heatsinks had fallen off and were rattling around inside the case.  I put everything back together, but all my chips are x'd out in the config utlility.  Any ideas?

edit:  Nevermind, seems to be working now.  I tried turning it off and on again.

edit #2:  Seemed to be hashing for a minute, then stopped and all o's turned to x's again.

If you are so inclined, I would try removing all the boards and add them back one by one to find the offending board.  From my experience, only one board causes the solid 6 rows of x's... so just need to identify it.

To do this, I powered off and on in between adding boards (did not try to hot swap), and I did this while the cube was disassembled using a external fan to keep things cool.  Some fan needs to be attached the the backplane for the Cube to start up.

Thanks for the suggestion!  I isolated the problem board - it's the one that had completely loosened.  It only had 3 screws holding on the heatsink because one of the holes is completely stripped out.  I cleaned off the TIM sheet and sink, and forced a fan screw in the hole to hold it on, and it seems to be working.  But when I set the clock speed to high, I slowly lose hashrate until all x's appear again.  What can we do about that SSB?

So I'm mining at ~32 Gh/s on low clock speed with an efficiency of ~96%.  Is this normal?  Any way to improve this?  Does switching the pool or pool priority affect anything?  Both addresses point to the same pool.  I'm using Eligius.

Sounds like a cooling issue. You could try to place a strong 120mm fan on the outflow side of the cube to help pull the hot air out.
I have thought about doing that to try and increase airflow.
For the fan that's in there not much comes out the front end.
It's very tight inside the cube. If you can suck the air out as fast as it's going in you might improve it.

This is with the case off!  I'll play with it though.  I'm just happy to be up and running.   It's my first ASIC miner.  Sure beats losing money with Radeons!

Do these plug into your everday PC or do you need another computer to act as a proxy? If so does anyone have detailed instructions on how to setup the proxy server? Little confused on how the router proxy and cube are connected and how you manage the cube.

I'm not in front of my system to check... But I know I don't have enough juice.
This is the PSU inside my Desktop computer which is already running another ATI 7870 video card.
If I remember correctly it is only a 500w (coolermaster? I think).
But yeah, it's only a mid-range PSU I know that and it is not dedicated to the Cube.
So, I'm confident I just need a dedicated PSU for the Cube and need to use the Paperclip method instead of sharing with a Desktop .

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good PSU that can handle 2 Cubes? (I'm thinking about getting another)
Modular would be nice, but not needed. As long as it has the 4 PCI-E connections and I don't have to use Molex adapters.

I've never had an issue with my corsair AX1200's in over two years of use.
