Yeah that was a great idea, i think one coin before quark had done something similar.
Sadly quark is thrashed down in price and nobody uses it, which is a shame. I think cpu only coins for now are not a good idea since a few persons are able to rape the coin leaving no interest for others. For now scrypt and sha256 seem to appeal to the asic and gpu crowd. Although the few that have the 500Gh and shortly released 2TH miners will soon have a large advantage over those with lesser powerful asic without the huge electricity difference they would have if it was gpu hashes. So for now i think scrypt is the fairest algo. Everyone has equal chance at buying a gpu easily, not a lucky few who have enough bitcoin for first pre-orders and asic companies who take money for pre-orders and use the machines to mine for themselves for months on end before the diff rises then they ship.
So for now my opinion is scrypt (gpu) coins are the fairest coins. Sadly in terms of cost of production these are very undervalued at this point. If a decent gpu miner for quark was found that could change things for the better.
If i was producing a coin right now the only 2 things for certain i would have is scrypt algo, and transaction message. As to which coin has the best diff adjust, block reward, block time, for fairest and successful uptake and usage of the coin... nobody knows as yet. Some coins like wdc changed their block reward since it was thought too many coins were being produced and holding the price down. So it's hard to estimate the best way to do it, bitcoin and ltc seem to be working out well but i don't think it would work so well if they were released now. Both right now are hard to 51% and even multipools can't mess with their diff enough to cause them retarget issues like ftc had.
Also some of the pow+pos coins seem to have some issues so although it can help against 51% attacks since apparently you need 51% of all coins too, it is still not for sure if pow+pos is better than just pow because of these issues. However not all pow+pos seem to suffer as badly or maybe they would but have not been hit with such huge hash fluctuations as adt.
